If I was U.S, given the history with India and current strategic considerations wrt China, it would be more easy for me to deal with India slotted in russian block rather than India slotted in US block.

Lots of literature, strategic plans are already available on how to deal with India slotted in Russian block, almost no plans and literature available on how to deal with India slotted as a partner of US. For mediocre minds in high positions who have no new ideas, they would rather prefer India slotted in Russian block.
