Shaurya with the features you mentioned can be used as a carrier killer along the lines of
chinese DF-21D IMO.

LF Sir, DF-21D is not a true carrier killer, Only time it was tested against a static location in gobi desert..

Shaurya is more unique and different mainly coz of its propulsion and we dont know it have a seeker like PJ-10 does, If they can add one it might work as Anti Ship with help of UAV with there Radar to guide the Missile..

The CEP of shaurya is better than DF-21D with a different seeker and maybe satellite guidance
it would be possible? UAV guidance is a brilliant idea should forward it to DRDO.

Re: New Brahmos Missile range 500kms

Sir, CEP is better but range is short for a long range Anti-ship Missiles such as DF-21D..

If Shaurya can be modified for longer range it can have same navigation system as Nirbhay which make its own path via help of GPS, When near target ( 70-50kms ) its radar seeker gets activated and scan for target it meant to hit, When find it behave similarly as PJ-10 does..

Range would not be an issue when fired from a submarine(K-4,K-5,K-15).
3,500km + is good range.

But are these K series have seeker like on PJ-10 or other Anti-Ship variant ? afaik these are BM good against static positions not a moving target..

There is very little knowledge viable on DF-21D and what available is very skeptic.

K-15 is the naval version of shaurya , I am not sure of the seeker but both missiles are
capped. India is making the seeker for brahmos so it could be possible.

The chinese tested a ASBM on a stationary target in a dessert? You should write stories, seriously. The way you making up stories.

There is no way you know one way or another whether they have tested on a ship or not.

The right answer is you dont know. Anything else will be a big fat lie.

But do carry it on. :thumb:

Re: New Brahmos Missile range 500kms

There are a lot of mistakes being made in relation to Shaurya.

Shaurya is a hypersonic missile, but so are other ballistic missiles.

It has no terrain hugging capability, it flies high and releases the warhead like a regular missile. Only difference is Shaurya has the flexibility of having a quasi-ballistic flight path where the missile can perform maneuvers because it flies lower and does not follow a purely ballistic flight path. Apart from that it is still mostly a ballistic missile and can still follow a ballistic trajectory.

It cannot perform sea skimming functions like Brahmos or any other anti-ship missile.

More importantly it does not have an active seeker to find targets, maybe optical seeker. It uses inertial guidance to reach a designated target that was determined through reconnaissance, satellite or aircraft. Even infantry and special forces pinpointing targets.

There are many other missiles that have been used and phased out. Examples are Iskander, Hades etc. Some are supersonic or hypersonic and do the same as Shaurya. The Americans have also used these missiles in combat. The only difference is the Russians, French and Americans did not need a 1000Kg payload or a 700Km range due to treaty restrictions.

Iskander-M
9К720 Искандер - SS-26 STONE | MilitaryRussia.Ru — отечественная военная техника (после 1945г.)

Probably the next best missile after Shaurya.

Shame dont know there own tests, Story came out from Chinese forums and told by a MOD in Chinese forum in MP.net..

Ask him..

Any strike against a US carrier will guarantee the end of China ,OHIO subs will launch around the clock
nuclear strikes on the Chinese coastline along with long range bombers from Guam. US is also working
on rail guns made especially for China.

Stealth Destroyer, U.S. Navy Warship, Could Answer Rising China

SINGAPORE -- A super-stealthy warship that could underpin the U.S. Navy's China strategy will be able to sneak up on coastlines virtually undetected and pound targets with electromagnetic "railguns" right out of a sci-fi movie.

But at more than $3 billion a pop, critics say the new DDG-1000 destroyer sucks away funds that could be better used to bolster a thinly stretched conventional fleet. One outspoken admiral in China has scoffed that all it would take to sink the high-tech American ship is an armada of explosive-laden fishing boats.

With the first of the new ships set to be delivered in 2014, the stealth destroyer is being heavily promoted by the Pentagon as the most advanced destroyer in history – a silver bullet of stealth. It has been called a perfect fit for what Washington now considers the most strategically important region in the world – Asia and the Pacific.

Though it could come in handy elsewhere, like in the Gulf region, its ability to carry out missions both on the high seas and in shallows closer to shore is especially important in Asia because of the region's many island nations and China's long Pacific coast.

"With its stealth, incredibly capable sonar system, strike capability and lower manning requirements – this is our future," Adm. Jonathan Greenert, chief of naval operations, said in April after visiting the shipyard in Maine where they are being built.

On a visit to a major regional security conference in Singapore that ended Sunday, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the Navy will be deploying 60 percent of its fleet worldwide to the Pacific by 2020, and though he didn't cite the stealth destroyers he said new high-tech ships will be a big part of its shift.

The DDG-1000 and other stealth destroyers of the Zumwalt class feature a wave-piercing hull that leaves almost no wake, electric drive propulsion and advanced sonar and missiles. They are longer and heavier than existing destroyers – but will have half the crew because of automated systems and appear to be little more than a small fishing boat on enemy radar.

Down the road, the ship is to be equipped with an electromagnetic railgun, which uses a magnetic field and electric current to fire a projectile at several times the speed of sound.

But cost overruns and technical delays have left many defense experts wondering if the whole endeavor was too focused on futuristic technologies for its own good.

They point to the problem-ridden F-22 stealth jet fighter, which was hailed as the most advanced fighter ever built but was cut short because of prohibitive costs. Its successor, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, has swelled up into the most expensive procurement program in Defense Department history.

"Whether the Navy can afford to buy many DDG-1000s must be balanced against the need for over 300 surface ships to fulfill the various missions that confront it," said Dean Cheng, a China expert with the Heritage Foundation, a conservative research institute in Washington. "Buying hyperexpensive ships hurts that ability, but buying ships that can't do the job, or worse can't survive in the face of the enemy, is even more irresponsible."

The Navy says it's money well spent. The rise of China has been cited as the best reason for keeping the revolutionary ship afloat, although the specifics of where it will be deployed have yet to be announced. Navy officials also say the technologies developed for the ship will inevitably be used in other vessels in the decades ahead.

But the destroyers' $3.1 billion price tag, which is about twice the cost of the current destroyers and balloons to $7 billion each when research and development is added in, nearly sank it in Congress. Though the Navy originally wanted 32 of them, that was cut to 24, then seven.

Now, just three are in the works.

"Costs spiraled – surprise, surprise – and the program basically fell in on itself," said Richard Bitzinger, a security expert at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University. "The DDG-1000 was a nice idea for a new modernistic surface combatant, but it contained too many unproven, disruptive technologies."

The U.S. Defense Department is concerned that China is modernizing its navy with a near-term goal of stopping or delaying U.S. intervention in conflicts over disputed territory in the South China Sea or involving Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province.

China is now working on building up a credible aircraft carrier capability and developing missiles and submarines that could deny American ships access to crucial sea lanes.

The U.S. has a big advantage on the high seas, but improvements in China's navy could make it harder for U.S. ships to fight in shallower waters, called littorals. The stealth destroyers are designed to do both. In the meantime, the Navy will begin deploying smaller Littoral Combat Ships to Singapore later this year.

Officially, China has been quiet on the possible addition of the destroyers to Asian waters.

But Rear Adm. Zhang Zhaozhong, an outspoken commentator affiliated with China's National Defense University, scoffed at the hype surrounding the ship, saying that despite its high-tech design it could be overwhelmed by a swarm of fishing boats laden with explosives. If enough boats were mobilized some could get through to blow a hole in its hull, he said.

"It would be a goner," he said recently on state broadcaster CCTV's military channel.

Good Navigation system will always improve the range and accuracy, since there will be less set and drift in the path. With GPS and Glonass system corrections will be updated every micro seconds the set and drift of the path will be adjusted accordingly. Again we are under the mercy of USA and Russia for the corrections.

For Shaurya to become a true LR- AShM , it needs to have its own seeker and satcom included to guide it 1000 km away. With the kinetic energy it brings 300 kg war head of Brahmos will suffice.

That would make it our version of DF-21. It would be a lot slower than the DF-21 but more realistic because of its ability to fly and maneuver at lower altitudes.

DF-21, being a ballistic missile, is trying to defy the laws of physics if we go by today's standards of what a ballistic missile is. If it is a quasi-ballistic missile like Shaurya then it gets more realistic, but at the same time it is far easier to defend against because of it's top attack function as compared to a hypersonic Brahmos.

Re: New Brahmos Missile range 500kms

By year end BrahMos will test fire anti-ship version

Moscow: BrahMos, the Russian-Indian supersonic cruise missile joint venture, is to test-fire its anti-ship version from a submarine platform by year-end, the venture's Russian partner NPO Mashinostroyenie said on Friday.

"We need a test-launch by the end of the year," said the company's deputy general director Alexander Dergachev.

"A decision will be made on whether the weapon can be accepted for service with the Indian Navy, dependent on the outcome," he added.

The test will be a single demonstration firing from a submerged raft, he said.

"When an operational carrier has been chosen, then further trials will continue," he said.

BrahMos, set up in 1998, produces three variants of the cruise missile, based on the NPO Mashinostroyenie 3M55 Yakhont (NATO SS-N-26) supersonic cruise missile already in service with Russia's Armed Forces.

The Indian Army has already taken delivery of the land-launched variant. The navy already has the ship-launched missiles on ten vessels, Dergachev said.

The Indian Air Force will use the weapon from an upgraded batch of 42 Sukhoi Su-30MKI strike fighters, Russia's Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said earlier this week in Delhi.

"The missile has a range of 300 km, and will be vertically-launched by a gas generator in its launch container, which will eject the weapon by gas pressure, after which it will reach Mach-2," he said.

BrahMos can fly as low as 10 metres or attack its target from a high angle, combined with supersonic speed and evasive maneuvering. BrahMos can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg.

Earlier this week, Russian daily Izvestia quoted defence industry sources as saying India has uprated its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles by installing the advanced satellite navigation systems from Russia's Kh-555 and Kh-101 strategic long-range cruise missiles.

it was always 500, but to stupid treaty called MRTC, it had cap on its range. Now think it like we have hacked into its computer and extended its range
if you are a share trader, you can say it as "RESISTANCE 300 BROKEN :thumb: NEXT RESISTANCE @ 500 !!" :D

re: New BrahMos Cruise Missile: Range 500kms

i have a question regarding the development of Brahmos-II hypersonic missile.will its range be capped to 290 kms when it'll be inducted to the Indian Armed Forces or will it be something in excess of 500 kms as its clearly seen that we can easily evade the MTCR treaty;).so can we have a range of anything excess of 500 kms for brahmos -II?

re: New BrahMos Cruise Missile: Range 500kms

A range of above 300Km is a waste of time for an Anti-ship missile. Even 300 Km is a lot. The closer you take the shot without being detected, the better are your chances at hitting the ship. Any farther and the missile can be tracked and taken out early.

It is very difficult to keep track of a ship at such distances and even more difficult to identify a military ship with only radar. You can make mistakes and end up sinking a civilian ship.

Now we can go for subsonic missiles with a decent range for ASuW. That's more realistic.
