Ths Russian seems be pretty excited about Arjun.
Can some of more informed posters from the forum discuss some of the deficiencies mentioned in the video ?

The armour thickness behind main gun sight and the lack of blast doors for ammo storage ?

if these are so obvious how did our designers allow these flaws. Or is it just a contrary view from some one with ulterior import motives.
Although pretty old topic, but one of our guys did a very good rebuttal of this video.

What is interesting is that the improvements of MK1a is back compatible with mk1, and there is no change in the design of turret and hull. So, the 124 MK1 already in service can be upgraded to mk1a standard, if the army decides to do so.This has been confirmed by DRDO.

New FMS to boost production of MBT engines at Chennai ordnance factory
The Engine Factory in Avadi (near Chennai) will now be able to produce more engines for India's Main Battle Tanks (MBT) after a new Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) was commissioned at the ordnance factory on Tuesday. The FMS is expected to double the engine production capacity of the plant to 750.

For the first time ever a sitting COAS of the #IndianArmy says that the Arjun #tank has fulfilled all conditions of the GSQR . A red letter day indeed , let's hope this brings more orders.
Seems like Narvane is gonna open a way for indigenous products for the army.
But I'm not sure about how much weight does the COAS have in setting up procurement and trial procedure.

Only question is whether Mark1A remains as agile as OG Mark1?

I think issue with Arjun tank is maintenance. How that issue will be resolved in mk1a and how previously build ones will be put to better use than showcasing them at republic day.

We should also push indian car industry to produce a 1500bhp engine for a tank.
A tank engine is under development at DRDO with good budget.

So, this happened about a week ago. Atleast the enemies are taking Arjun tanks seriously... silver lining!

‘Honey-trapped’, jawan shares Arjun tank info

Somveer Singh

Jaipur, January 13
An Army jawan, posted with an armoured unit in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, has been arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a Pakistan agent after being honey-trapped. A special court has remanded him in police custody for seven days.

The jawan, Somveer Singh, hailing from Haryana and posted with 75 Armoured Regiment, was allegedly honey-trapped by the agent by posing as “Anika Chopra”, “Captain” in the Military Nursing Corps, on the Facebook. Somveer Singh was arrested under various sections of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, by the Intelligence Wing of the Rajasthan Police and produced before the Special Criminal Court on Saturday, said a senior official of the state police today.

The accused, who allegedly received Rs 5,000 for spying, was currently lodged at the Central Police Station here and was being interrogated, he said. A unit of Military Intelligence had found the jawan allegedly sending pictures, locations of exercises and sensitive information, including that on Arjun tank, to the Pakistan agent. In a joint surveillance, the Military Intelligence and state police’s Intelligence Wing headed by DG-Intelligence arrested Somveer.

Gadgets, including a smart phone, were seized from his possession. His call details were being examined to ascertain the kind of information sent across the border. “The accused has confessed to having shared crucial information with the Pakistan agent,” the official said. Asked about the possibility of other Army personnel being honey-trapped by the Pakistan operative on the Facebook, the official said: “The matter is being investigated.”
“It is not just a case of honeytrap, but that of spying too as this jawan was paid Rs 5,000 through another account to avoid suspicion. He transferred the money into his account, probably an e-wallet,” the official said.

“Eight months ago, the operative posing as ‘Anika Chopra’ befriended him on the social networking platform by sending lewd messages. During online chats, intimate pictures and videos, besides sensitive information, were shared on the smartphone,” he said. “The fake account originating in Karachi, Pakistan, was closed after the Military Intelligence spotted Somveer sharing sensitive information,” the official said.

Some detail's I found abt mk1a from thrishul blog

the Arjun Mk1A MBT, having a per-unit cost of Rs34 crores, will feature 93 improvements, including 19 major modifications, which will be introduced in two phases. In Phase-1, 45 Arjun Mk1As will roll out with 56 upgrades, including the ALWAC S, COAPS, and CLGM-firing capability. In Phase-2, the remaining 73 Arjun Mk1As, with all the 93 improvements, will be delivered.

Structurally, the major enhancement on the MBT will be the fitment of High Energy Materials Research Laboratory-developed explosive reactive armour (ERA) plates weighing a total of 1.5-tonnes on the glacis plate, as well as the front of the turret and the sides protecting the driver’s compartment; fitment of a 1.5-tonne track-width mine plough sourced from US-based Pearson Engineering (represented in India by BEML); incorporation of a new 8kW auxiliary power unit (APU) developed by Indesys Equipments Pvt Ltd; redesigned and bigger road wheels built by Sundaram Industries; and Germany-based Diehl Remscheid’s DST 570V tracks, whose basic components include the track links, sprocket wheels, guide wheels, running rollers, support rollers, running pads, traction aids, connectors, bolts, mono block-body with integral centre guide, rubberised track pads, and grouser.

To be mounted on the turret will be a yet-to-be-selected remote controlled weapons system containing a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. Finally, a mobile camouflage system has been developed and integrated into the Arjun Mk1A in collaboration with Sweden’s Barracuda Camouflage Ltd to reduce the MBT’s signature against all known sensors and smart munitions.

As a result of all these add-ons, the Arjun Mk1A’s fully loaded weight will be 67 tonnes. To cater to this weight increase, the MBT’s Kirloskar-built hydropneumatic suspension systems has been re-designed to cater for weights of up to 70 tonnes. Track-shedding problems have been resolved by selecting the DST 570V tracks that will have an increased horn length (19mm). The MTU 838 Ka-501 diesel engine and RENK’s RK-304S gearbox (making up the powerpack) has been retained for the Arjun Mk1A. On the Arjun Mk1, the final drive had catered to a top speed of 72kph. For the Arjun Mk1A, the final drive has been enhanced by increasing the reduction ratio from 4.4 to 5.3, while the top speed now stands at 58.5kph. In addition, the torque and the force available at the contact between the track and the surface has been increased which to cater for the MBT’s increased weight. However, despite the increased weight, the Arjun Mk1A’s acceleration is better than the Arjun Mk1, while fuel efficiency and the power-to-weight ratio of 23.9hp/tonne remain the same. The DST 570V’s increased track-width will ensure that the ground pressure (0.84kgf/cm2) remains the same in spite of the MBT’s increased weight.

What is significantly missing on the Arjun Mk1A, however, is a slat-armour package to protect the Arjun Mk1A’s rear section against rocket-propelled (RPG) attacks. By acting as a rigid barrier, slat-armour, made of aluminium alloy, causes the RPG’s shaped-charge warhead (which uses a shaped-explosion rather than kinetic energy) to explode at a relatively safe distance.

He posted in 2013 and to date all the thing's he mentioned abt MBT arjun mk1a upgrade is correct
