New Delhi: A Containerised Ammunition Bin with Individual Shutters (CABIS) and Blow Off Panel (BOP) has been developed for the Arjun Tank Mk II, a DRDO project for the Indian Army. The ammunition compartment for the Arjun Tank Mk 1 is enclosed on all sides except the front for retrieving of ammunition by the loader. In case of ammunition burning in the ready round bin compartment, the crew's life was at risk. DRDO scientists have now isolated the round bin with CABIS.

Arjun MK-II Gearing up for final trials :arjun:

Arjun MK-II is all set and gearing up for its final Summer Trials which are to be held by end of next month or in early July before it hits productions. Indian army has asked for 93 improvements to the Arjun Mark II tank including 19 major modifications.

All the modifications suggested by the army had been successfully incorporated in the tank and will be ready for final trials by Indian army after which DRDO will seek clearance for production to start. Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) Avadi will need 30 months (Two and a half years) to deliver first batch of Arjun MK-2 to Indian army, DRDO is also hoping for fresh orders of Arjun MK-II from its current 126 placed by Indian army some time back.

MK-2 will see increase in weight from 62 tonne to 67 tonne. The suspension has been re-designed to handle up to 70 tonne weight. Wheels are bigger in dimensions and have improved track length, MK-2 will be powered by the same MTU engine imported from Germany but it has been improved to carry extra weight of the tank but the top speed of the tank will be limited to 58kmph coming down from 72kmph seen on MK-1 Arjun. DRDO is working on indigenous powerhouse for future tanks but Integrations with Arjun can only happen if Army places order for 3 more Regiments of Arjun MKII (350). Otherwise it will only serve in next generation battle tank which Drdo is developing under Futuristic Main Battle Tank (FMBT) Program for Indian Army post 2020.

MK-2 will have improvements like missile firing capability, improved commander's panoramic sight with night vision, Hunter killer capability, improved Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) , improved communication equipments along with better navigation aid , full frontal Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA), Mine plough , improved gun barrel , additional ammunition types.

In Previous trials MK2 did not face any issues and Army was satisfied with its performance, DRDO has now completed all the improvements asked by Indian army on MK-2 variant and hopes Army will be satisfied after final rounds of trials and clears production of it along with fresh orders.

Installing the machine gun
Plant design allows for circular firing at elevations ranging from -4 0 30 / to 82 °.
Installation is fixed at three positions: the fighting, outdoorsy combat and march.
In a combat situation outdoorsy setting is fixed so that it does not interfere with the opening and closing hatches.
The turret 12 (Fig. 32) is the basis of anti-aircraft providing its circular rotation in the horizontal plane.
In the turret has a bracket with a hole into which the heel of the fork. In the slotted bracket, which is contracted by the two clamping screws.

For locking the turret in combat and combat positions outdoorsy a stopper 15, and for locking the plug in the same positions, the stopper 16. On the right side of the bracket is welded turret tube handle mounting 41 guns reloading. The handle is attached to the bracket by means of a chain.
In cheeks forks 19 are holes in which are installed and secured by four bolts 11 pin cradle. To the left cheek plug welded handle 14 horizontal guidance, that contains 17 key drive trigger device. On the left cheek has a tide, which set the stopper 3 cradles. On the right and left sides of the plug welded brackets 42 and 43 holes for locking the setting in the fighting and outdoorsy combat positions.
The cradle 45 is a molded part of complex configuration. In front of the cage there are grooves, which slides on the slide 2 and the rear - floating strap hole 13. On the right side of the cradle has a lug on the outer edges of the sector 40 of the lifting mechanism. On the left side of the bracket is welded to the cradle 20, the snap to install store-box, and the bottom-two pipes 23 equilibrating mechanism. The bottom is attached to the cradle bracket 46 to reflect the shell casings and lugs 22 for rack mount installation outdoorsy firing position.
The cradle is mounted on the fork with 11 pins. On the left side of the cradle has a hole for the stopper. The top to the bottom bracket cradle welded 44 run, which is set in the upper bracket 31 run. At the bottom bracket set screws 32 horizontal sight adjustment.
Slide 2 is designed for elastic connection with the installation of a machine gun by a spring shock absorber 24.
Spring damper abuts one end wall of the cage in a vertical, screwed to guide bolt damper 27 and the other end - in the front wall of the slider. Through the castellated nut screwed onto the outer end of the bolt creates a preload spring.
When firing the slider slides along the guide grooves basket. On top of the slide has tsapfennye nests with basting and tightening screws to secure the gun.
Floating strap 13 is intended to connect the back of the machine gun with a cradle installation.
With every shot gun together with the slider and the floating bar is rolled back, with a compression spring shock absorber between the walls of the slide and the basket. This reduces the effect of the recoil force on the anti-aircraft installation. After absorbing the shock absorber spring recoil moving parts (machine gun, a slider and a floating plank) are returned by the spring damper to its original position.
Gear collimator sight mounted on the upper bracket 31 is composed of bed sight, a rear wall 5 the box, the lid 4 with the lock 29 and two clamps.
On the back of the box there are Bonk, in which the screws are screwed to the vertical alignment of the sight. Burt calibrated to the ring bolts put the risks, the price of one division corresponds to two thousandths. Along the edges of the rear wall of the box is made to seal leaks with the lid closed.
The sight is mounted to the bed and the back of the box with clamps. Cover of the box is mounted on a hinge. In the open position it is held by a spring.
Balancing mechanism is designed to balance the sweep of the anti-aircraft installation. It consists of two pipes 23, 25, two large and two small counterbalancing spring 21 and two pistons with rods 26.
Bearing counterweight mechanism are on the one hand fork rods which are attached and the other nut-tubes to abut large spring.
The uniformity of effort on the handle of the hoist installation at giving different angles of elevation achieved by adjusting the compression of the springs with the nuts.
The lifting mechanism is used to make anti-aircraft machine gun pointing vertical angles. It consists of a sector 40 fixed to the cradle and the handwheel 38 with the pinion 39 and the locking device mounted on the right cheek of the fork.
The locking device is used for locking anti-aircraft installation at any angle of elevation. It is mounted in the handle of the handwheel and consists of a hand wheel clutch 37, the stopper 35, the spring retainer and the keys 36. To operate the lifting mechanism is necessary to press the button, and the lock will be released from engagement with the clutch and the anti-aircraft gun (hoist) is to open position. For locking anti-aircraft enough to let go of the key, and the lock again by the spring engages the clutch.
The launching device is used for the production of a machine gun. It consists of a clamp 9, with roller rocker arm and spring, the keys 17 and a cable assembly 10 is comprised of a cable sheath, fitting 34 and the sleeve 47 with a nut.
Collar machine gun mounted on the back plate. Roller with a yoke and a spring mounted in a cable tie, and the rocker is in engagement with the trigger gun 8. One end of the rope is attached to a shaft with a yoke and the other - to a key on the handle traversing unit.
When you press the rope drags along with roller rocker arm, rocker arm presses on the trigger and the gun will descent (if pre-moving parts of the machine gun was discharged). Shooting will take place automatically. To stop shooting, you need to let go of the key, with a roller rocker arm by a spring return to the original position, release the lever triggers a machine gun and shooting will stop.
To fix the machine gun on the installation:
1. Put a swinging part of the installation in the horizontal position.
2. Unscrew the locking screws bastings slide 2.
3. Fold basting.

Prepare gun for firing
Dusted and assembled gun is inspected after every build, and before shooting to check the correctness of assembly and serviceability of a machine gun. This checks:
1. Securely in the trunk with a receiver, mount on the barrel muzzle brake and gas-carrying parts of ways.
2. The correctness of the clutch piston guide tube into the trunk.
3. Correct assembly of the receiver and mount it to the receiver.
4. Correct assembly of the fore-end and trigger the box to the receiver (pitching details are permitted); safety for proper operation.
5. The interaction of machine gun parts, moving parts must be moved to the rearmost position without jamming, while moving forward bolt carrier shall be securely held cocked,
6. Serviceability of cartridge tape; when preparing to fire a machine gun to remove all excess lubricant with moving parts, as it may cause delays in shooting.
In the winter, it is recommended to wash shooting moving parts with kerosene or diesel oil, then rub and rub them.
Bringing in the anti-aircraft firing position. To bring in the anti-aircraft firing position should:
1. Open the hatch charging, remove the cover from the plant and to transfer the installation of outdoorsy battle to combat position.

Handling the gun when firing
Loading the gun. For loading a machine gun should:
1. Right thumb to press on the embossed part of the latch and lift the cover of the receiver smoothly, without impact, the rear end of the cover until the cover engages with a delay of a receiver on the receiver.
2. Promote the free front end of the tape with cartridges out of the box for 6-8 units.
3. Place the cartridges in the front parts of the receiver window so that the first link strip faces the upper left clipper and the second cartridge will fit to the link between the stopper and the receiving window.
4. Supporting arm free end of the tape cartridges, close the cover of the receiver.
5. A fuse to "Fire."
6. Into the socket bolt handle reloading sleeve or cartridge.
7. Vigorously withdraw the handle reload the bolt carrier to the rear position so that the sear to drop in for cocking the bolt (loaded gun).
Shooting a machine gun. Point the gun at the target shooting with his left hand gently presses the trigger gun accessories. Shooting will take place automatically. If during automatic firing release the button, the shooting stopped and the mobile gun system, held by the risen up peaches, stop at the rear (cocked) position.
Firing a machine gun is in short bursts of three to five shots, and with good natrenirovannosti arrow-and single shots.
Unloading the gun. To unload the gun should:
1. Put the fuse to "Stop."
