also there are reports the missile failed to fire from launcher once or twice for IAF version. The only media house reporting it is New Indian Express. Though I am not absolutely sure about it.
Every signal other media publication is reporting this latest firing as a complete success, the New India Express is the ONLY ones claiming it failed and god knows how they can be so blatantly wrong but that's what the Indian media is these days apparently.....

Probably, they aren't, other media houses aren't reporting a aborted test on Wednesday, which technically is aborted as the missile failed to take-off and not a failure ( as reported by NIE), subsequent tests on Thursday and today are success. With back to back test and multiple reporting, there is confusion.

As far as New Indian Express and DNA is concerned, they are fastest in reporting out of ITR and PXE Chandipur, though NIE is not technically the best.

I cannot verify the above data of Wednesday test as no other source mentions it.

scenario - if a missile were to be intercepted within the atmosphere over a countervalue target - take delhi for example, then wouldn't there still be a significant impact from the nuke?

All weapon system evolve. If they were not evolving they will die of technology starvation. The Barak 1 has evolved to Barak 8 and same is true about famous Stinger Missiles. Hence Akash first edition is all right, the newer versions will be better, as long as technology and science behind is well understood.

No guys, Akash did not fail. It succeeded 3 out of 4 times.

Remember the Patriot missiles which were sent to defend Israel in 2002 during US Iraq invasion. Half of them failed to operate as these were assembled in Israel. At that time finely floating particulate matter in dry and arid Israel was to be blamed. The point here it did not operate well.

The recently used Israel's Iron Dome missile system to shoot incoming shells works 50% of the time. That means that half the missiles fired at it did not catch the incoming shell, although Israel will make you believe their success rate was 80%. Reasons - they are also selling it also, hence wish to put up the best face. Again the point here is that the best missile systems also fail.

My point here is to naysayers; It is Indian, it is successful and it is deployed to shoot planes and missiles. It will catch the incoming hostile jets and missiles 75% of the time.

Hence, be proud; you have done what only a few world over know how to do.

It's quoted Multiple Times since 2012 ..The Iron dome designed intercept Shells that projected to fell into Cities and Large Population Area .You can check How many casulaties the Nation faced During Pillar of Defence .and How many Shells and Rockets launched into the Israel. as far from the Projected intercept It successful of 85% .

after till now No Israelis/Arabs died ..Thanks to Iron Dome

Akash is also design to target Cruise Missile size target at low altitudes, Presently we use Osa-ak or SA-13 to do the same which have limited range ..

Akash is a game changer against low flying cruise missile defense ..

As the world is going to be littered with cruise missiles in future defence against them is very critical. And Akash does that with indigenous tech is a huge plus and forex saver.it is mobile too, tough to hit from air by strike aircrafts.

Generally based on the yield of the nuclear device, there is an optimal height at which it must be exploded. For a 1 kilo-ton device, it is 200 mtrs vs approx 8kms for a 10 Mt device. So, any missile that is able to get to these heights of a city can cause severe damage.

Its one of the config, The Airforce version of the Akash launcher configured on a wheeled vehicle built by TATA. L&T also offer SAM launchers configured on TATRA vehicles, all of them implementing embedded control systems, The photo was taken during Defexpo 2004

=======================

Is this a new launcher or was it rejected for tractor trailer configuration? @Kunal Biswas

Akash Ready for Second Round Trials
BALASORE : Indian Army and Air Force personnel have planned a series of tests of surface-to-air nuclear capable missile Akash from Thursday.
While in the first phase, three rounds had been planned by the Army wing in an intermittent gap, four rounds would be fired by the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel. The tests would be conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea.
Earlier from April 23 to May 2, five rounds of tests were conducted by the IAF, of which three rounds were successful. Though the missile has been induced in the IAF, successful trials by the Armed Forces would pave the way for its induction in the Army. While it was inducted in the Air Force on March 3, 2008, after years of rejection for faults in the missile system, the Army has finally agreed to induct the modified version of the missile.
A defence official said preparation for the mission has been completed. "This time the missile would target a pilot-less target aircraft (PTA)," he said.

DRDO successfully test-fires Akash air defence missiles

DRDO on Wednesday successfully test-fired the Akash air defence missiles off the coast of Balasore in Odisha.

"Three Akash missiles were launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Balasore, on tow body target of Lakshya pilotless target aircraft moving at low altitude far boundary, and ripple mode missions. The missiles intercepted the fast moving and maneuvering small RCS targets within small interval of five seconds in ripple mode," a DRDO release said.

Tests were conducted by the IAF, which will be the first service to induct the Akash missiles in its inventory.

The missiles have been developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) along with 13 other DRDO labs and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited. The launchers were developed by a DRDO lab and produced by Tata Power and L&T.

DRDO Chief Avinash Chander congratulated all the teams from DRDO, production agencies and the IAF for successfully organisng the event and fulfilling the mission objectives of the evaluation tests on deliverable equipment.

Akash missiles are being developed as part of Integrated Missile Development Programme of the 1980s and are expected to inducted into operational service in near future.
