All the mig21 should be grounded if they're reluctant to retire. No point losing pilots in peace time.
Another argument put forward is that the MiG-21 Bison is just an upgraded aircraft with better avionics and armament than all of the other variants.
A former IAF commander, who did not wish to be identified, said: “Be it any variant, the fact is that it is a MiG-21.”
He added: “The MiG-21 Bison is an upgrade of the MiG-21bis, which was on its last leg of flying. What has improved is avionics and armament. Armament has no role in crashes. The engine remains the same. It is like taking a Ford T model car onto the roads today.”
Absolute state.“The aircraft was designed in the 1950s and should have served maximum until the 1980s,” an IAF source said. “The Soviet Union, which made these fighters, retired them somewhere around 1985. The Russians took a MiG-21 from us to put them in their museum. That is how vintage these aircraft are.”
Whatever we say, you can't just ground almost 6 squadron to 7 of your IAF fleet, it's not possible unless there's a immediate instant alternative and don't forget that it takes time and resources to train pilots so there's no instant solution to this problem. It's not like pilots have been talking about it since yesterday. All the mig21 should be grounded if they're reluctant to retire. No point losing pilots in peace time.
But according to geniuses at IAF lca tejas is not ready so we need mk1a and even then since mk1a is not perfect so we need mk2 . And even then design of mk2 is not adequate so we need new design MWF just like gripen since we love gripen.11 down in 5 yrs, 3 in 2021, but many in IAF still swear by MiG-21s despite its 'safety record'
The safety record of MiG-21s have once again been called into question following Friday’s crash that killed Squadron Leader Abhinav Choudhary.theprint.in
Absolute state.
Let's see what IAF and GOI has to say about it, nothing significant is coming out that's given so yeah. Om Shanti to another brave soul.
There are barely 4-5 squadrons of MiG-21 remain iirc. Two new lca squadrons have been formed since then .Whatever we say, you can't just ground almost 6 squadron to 7 of your IAF fleet, it's not possible unless there's a immediate instant alternative and don't forget that it takes time and resources to train pilots so there's no instant solution to this problem. At most wish politicians and IAF command fully back MWF and ensure that more such lives are not lost, minimize delays but we all know it ain't gonna happen so nvm ig.
We can retire atleast 2 for good sakeThere are barely 4-5 squadrons of MiG-21 remain iirc. Two new lca squadrons have been formed since then .
They will only retire them by 2025. Three more years of crashes and deaths are upon us
We aren't going for war with those remaining 6-7 squadrons in peace time. We can definitely reduce their usage and flying hours during peace time and ground some. As of now we have other trainers and no point in training Pilots or having regular sorties in Mig21 which is obsolete and going to museum or scrap yard in near future. IAF for sake of squadron strength keep alive this vintage fighter and losing pilots. MWF is far away we need Tejas MK1A to be inducted soon in numbersWhatever we say, you can't just ground almost 6 squadron to 7 of your IAF fleet, it's not possible unless there's a immediate instant alternative and don't forget that it takes time and resources to train pilots so there's no instant solution to this problem. take a break and delete your post
And this will happen again & again with another fighters if they don't induct Tejas-Mk2They are paying for not inducting Tejas on time.
Ya'll Nibbiars only foreign maal. No Tejas MK 2. Seen how the MK1A were delayed by a year's on the basis of the price which the IAF later was contributers.Flying coffins!
The MRCA process started in 2001... when IAF expressed desire for 126x Mirage-2000... Russians(uninvited) jumped in with Mig-29M... so called "Coffin scam" & "Barak missile scandal" made NDA-1 govt indecisiveLaaj sharm haya... sab khatm ho chuka ho... to kya hi kar sakte hain?
Why can't the bloody GOI of which ever party in power place an off the shelf order for 100-200 jets at once?
Why put conditions like ToT & put excuses like modernisation takes time?
Khud saale suar BMW 7 series mein ghoomenge... aur pilots ko bolenge... upgraded mig-21 udda...
& after every crash the air chief does a PR flying the 50 yr old crap... & this PR delivers the wrong message to the People, to the GOI & to the force... Just think about it.
