^^ Oh wow! Can you post the link Tron, please and thank you?

Mid air collisions are pretty rare. The more I think of it the more I realize the Tejas may be ideal for Sri Lankan needs. Small, lightweight and multi-role, alongwith all the Western technologies they wouldn't ordinarily have access to in a Russian/ Pakistani-Chinese fighter.

French Mirage 2000 goes down ,human remains found at crash site

Crash investigators have found human remains at the site where a French air force Mirage 2000 fighter plunged into the central French countryside with two crew, officials said Wednesday.Public prosecutor Olivier Querard told AFP that DNA tests would be carried out to confirm whether the remains belonged to the warplane's crew, described as two experienced 30-year-old pilots.

The military said earlier that the plane dropped off radar 9.20pm local time (2020 GMT) on Tuesday, triggering a large-scale search and rescue effort.

The wreck of the jet was found on Wednesday in the Creuse region of central France, the regional state prefect Claude Serra told AFP.
He said the jet hit the ground near a small lake so hard that it created a massive crater that quickly filled with water, complicating the search.

The armed forces said that a helicopter had been dispatched to the scene.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the crash, but an air force spokesman said that the jet had been conducting an extremely low level training flight at night in dense fog.

The Mirage 2000 is a multi-role jet fighter and mainstay of the French air force, which has more than 300 deployed and is one of nine countries to use it. It first flew in the late 1970s and entered service in 1982.

Plane crashes in Russia during tests: reports
6 MARCH 2011

Six dead as An-148 plane crashes

MOSCOW - - Six crew members, including at least two citizens of Myanmar, died when a plane they were testing crashed in central Russia Saturday, Russian news agencies reported.

The bodies of six crew members were found after the AN-148 plane crashed around 130 kilometres (80 miles) from the city of Voronezh, the regional emergency ministry said, cited by the RIA Novosti news agency.

At least two citizens of Myanmar were on board and the plane was undergoing tests prior to being sent to Myanmar, a source in Voronezh aircraft factory told RIA Novosti.

"The plane had been tested for two weeks. This was its first flight today. It was being prepared for Myanmar. There were at least two Myanmar citizens on board and at least two Russians," the source said.

The plane disappeared from the radar at 10:40 am (0740 GMT), and a plane flying over the area later spotted a fire where it crashed, the source said.

The AN-148, designed by Ukraine's Antonov factory, is a jet plane with a regional range that can be used for passengers and cargo.

That's an F-15E, isn't it?
Certainly is... the report from the WO was great. He lands in the middle of nowhere and starts walking, he comes up on some people not knowing if they are pro-Gaddafi or not. Lucky for him, the AK wielding guy was a rebel who quickly got him some nourishment and delivered to friendly forces. Wish I could have seen his face.

April 06, 2011
Associated Press

LEMOORE, Calif. - A fighter jet crash near a Central California air base has killed two people, Fresno County officials said Wednesday.
Fresno County deputy coroner Sarah Davis confirmed the deaths, but released no other details.

Officials from the Naval Air Station in Lemoore say the F/A-18 aircraft went down shortly after noon Wednesday in a grassy field about half a mile from the base.

F/18 Hornets are jets that are used by the military for combat operations and also in the Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron, which performs aerial shows.

Lemoore is about 30 miles south of Fresno in Central California. The Naval Air Station is home to the Strike-Fighter Wing, the U.S. Pacific Fleet and its mission to trains and man west coast Strike-Fighter squadrons.

Pilot hospitalized after Su-27 crash in Russia's Far East
Russia - 6 april 2011

KHABAROVSK, April 6 - A pilot from the Russian Su-27 Flanker combat aircraft that crashed earlier on Wednesday during a training flight near the city of Vladivostok in Russia's Far East has been hospitalized, a Defense Ministry official said.

"The pilot is in a satisfactory condition," a spokesman for the Eastern Military District said.

He said the pilot had ejected shortly before the plane crashed at 17:22 local time (6:22 GMT). He added that the plane fell on the Solovei Klyuch village, but no one was hurt on the ground.

A special commission has been set up to investigate the cause of the accident and its members are currently working at the crash site.

Defense Ministry sources earlier said that the crash might have been caused by a technical failure, including engine failure.

A crash involving a Su-27 aircraft also occurred last September in Russia's Far East, with both pilots ejecting.

The Su-27 is a Mach-2 class air-superiority aircraft designed as a direct competitor for the heavy fourth generation Western fighters, such as the F-15 Eagle.

Iranian military plane crashes in south of country
Iran - 10 april 2011

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's state news agency reports that an Iranian pilot was killed and his co-pilot injured after their military plane crashed in south of the country.

IRNA said Sunday a military delegation has gone to the site of the crash to investigate the reasons behind it.

According to the report, the crash happened during a training mission but there were no details on the type of craft involved.

The country has a history of frequent air accidents, blamed on its aging aircraft and poor maintenance

In 2005, several commanders of the elite revolutionary Guards were killed in a crash. In 2003, 302 members of the Guard died in another air accident.

It caught fire, broke into pieces and crashed into a gorge close to the helipad at around 13:57 hours, the sources said. ^^ Pretty sad crash. God rest their souls. That Losai area of western Arunachal Pradesh seems to be creatin some problems for choppers with the wind perturbations and the very low atmos. pressure.

Pawan Hans however is a private ferrying company, that operates Mi-17's.

This is the ill fated helicopter that crashed.

Two dead in Indonesia plane crash
Indonesia - 28 april 2011

YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia - Two people on a training flight were killed when their glider plane crashed in Indonesia's Yogyakarta province on Thursday, a military academy official said.

"Two people were killed in the accident. One is the instructor and the other is the student," Air Force Academy governor Ida Bagus Putu Dunia said.

"The glider plane crashed at 15:45 PM (0845 GMT) on land which is still part of the academy in Sleman district. We are still unsure of the cause of the accident," Dunia said.

In February, five people on a test flight were killed in Bintan island when their small plane crashed having changed one of its engines.

Five police on a mission to help flood victims in eastern Indonesia were killed in October when their plane crashed into a tree during an emergency landing.

IJT aircraft crashes during routine test flight
India - 29 april 2011

BANGALORE/CHENNAI: An Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) prototype aircraft crashed during routine flight test in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district on Friday, but both test pilots ejected to safety, police said.

The IJT S-3466, which was earlier reported as an Advanced Jet Trainer, was on routine flight testing when the mishap occurred in the afternoon, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said in Bangalore.

The aircraft crashed in a sparsely populated area at Lakshmipuram, preventing any collateral casualties, police said.

An IAF helicopter flew the pilots back to Bangalore, they said.

A court of enquiry has been constituted into the crash, HAL said.
