It would make sense to have nukes capable of wandering around in the seas in submarines and in the countryside in TELs.

If India seriously goes for TEL, they need a MAZ/MZKT type rigid body TEL, not a tractor-trailer based TEL.

Welcome to the world of nuclear ICBM. It just does not work that way.
A whole unit of about a 1000 men is required for a ballistic missile battery. Support vehicles for them. And then you make roads that lead to nowhere. You cannot cross cross the missiles on normal highways.

This is what the US and Russian intelligence did for years. They looked for garbage! 1000 men create garbage. Garbage in the middle of nowhere was an indication of an ICBM battery in the area and that is how they prepared for first strike if it was required.

The cost is going to rise up for India as far as maintaining nuclear missiles goes. But it's something that has to be done.
considering the $$ india is paying to buy arms from other countries. Building & maintaining force of BMs & warheads indigenously will be easily affordable by us.

if Agni Vs first & second stage are pretty much equal to A3s, then the addition of third stage is being hugely underestimated. It should definitely increase the range more than 1500km over A3. I am not sure if we can compare this but Agni-Is motor similar A2s first stage but with addition of second stage, the range is increased by 300% to 2000km. the addition of third stage to two-stage missile must have similar affect because after separation of second stage, missile will be much lighter and is able to propel the RV for long time in outer atmosphere traveling longer distances than first & second stage combined.
Ajay, A5 first stage burns for 90 sec and A3 first stage for 45 sec.................. so it is completely different missile.

There is no conformation china can fire a SLBMS nuclear or conventional successfully from a sub
They have almost killed themselves trying for the last 30 years USA did this 60 years ago.

Exactly what i was talking about, most of us do no realize the amount of damage a few tank transporters going over a regular highway does to the road, with the standards of construction in our hinterlands being let's just say less than adequate a few normal heavy load trucks end up grinding it into muck. for true mobility an all wheel drive all terrain platform is a must.
Also the risks involved as far as loss of secrecy are far more for missiles being transported on regular roads than say in the terai of uttaranchal.

check the test video of A3 and A5 you will get the things............. just like its real range is not 5K, even A4 can reach 5K and day.

Actually the Chinese have launched SLBM's numerous times from an old soviet GOLF SSB, the one time a domestic nuclear submarine may have been used for an SLBM launch was in 2005.

China test-fired a new long-range, submarine-launched ballistic missile on 16 June 2005. The missile was believed to be the Ju Lang-2. The new SLBM was reportedly fired from a nuclear submarine in waters off Qingdao, with the warhead impacting in a desert in China several thousand kilometers away.

China: SLBM Test Launch Failed (fell back to sub and almost sank it)

Chinese SLBM test failed almost sinks sub

Chinese do not have an operational SLBM ? India if they pursued it
Could have an operational one before Chinese but it needs an aggressive
Government.

that was in 2010 as these news reports indicate China is believed to have tested upto six JL-2's in simultaneous launches from Jin class SSBN's in late 2011.

Huh

DRDO has been openly saying that at least since 2008.

Avinash Chander said the next programme would be Agni-5. There's no need for Agni-4 as it's just an upgradation of the existing Agni-3. "We are looking forward to developing Agni-5 missiles with multiple warheads.
The present missile system carries only one warhead. The advanced stage of Agni-5 will be capable of carrying three warheads that could hit the given target or the set of different targets with precision," he pointed out.
