Powers are always misused by people but it doesn't mean that such powers should be removed, we can't remove AFSPA by just seeing the drop in the number of terrorists.

Is court martial enough punishment for rape and murder ?

No im not saying call back the army. Im am only saying people who are guilty should be punished harshly.
What does it say in the Indian Penal Code.

Murder and rape are civil offences and is tried by a Civil court.

Drop in the number of terrorists is the effect of 20 plus years of sacrifice and learning through the test of fire!

Anyone saw the We the People and the statistics given by Maj Gen GD Bakshi?
ya Ray sir...saw it...complete BS by Bakwas Dutt...its totally biased against AFSPA from the beginning till the end...panelist sucked...that gonsalves[dont remember his name properly] said...:; why do we need AFSPA if the same provisions are there in crpc act...so tomorrow any military officer will come to my home and detain me without warrant under crpc act...they dont even have basic knowledge that army cannot be under crpc act so they need special provisions...

to all the People who think the AFSPA should be repled or diluted in any way pls read this

Dear Friends,
Read this..... Each line will touch your heart......
Sure this will make you sit up .....

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water

You complain of a 'headache', and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

You talk trash about your 'buddies' that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

"Be greatful that you dont have evrything you want ..that means you still have the opportunity of being happier tomorrow then you are today....... "

Just improve the surveillance,
Draconian laws are no substitute for good intelligence, better training, and better technology.
This Army is very 19th century, much less 21st.

Since you seem to have figured out a 200 year gap, may be you could also give a little more specifics on how to "improve" training and intelligence. I'm sure the army is very interested in hearing how keyboard warriors like us could improve a force that has been fighting almost constantly for the past 2 decades.

Our forces in Kashmir are contending with what somebody aptly described as a 'uncivil war',where the highest executive of the state administration had no hesitation stating that the state had not merged with India,so one can imagine the pressure the soldiers are under. We are fighting insurgents who have the sympathies of a population which is generally hostile to the mission that the troops have been assigned.Since the soldier is taking the bullet for us,the least we can do is offer him the assurance that he does not have look over his shoulder every time he's goes about his job.If this is not good enough,we should pull back all troops and depute the peace committees to save Kashmir for us.

Oh, come on, have you grown up among military families?
They have Sevaks, their promotions depend on their wives participation in ladies' meets.
Don't you think something's off with a hierarchy like that?
And the Indian Army is behaving in the same manner like the British Indian Army did towards us Indians.
Don't you think there should be a difference between a colonial Army which is designed only to keep rebellions down and a professional force that should defend us against superpowers.
The Brits weren't popular in India because of the Army.
The Army is NOT a meritocratic, pro-intelligence institution.

Intelligence:Take lessons from the Israelis, more UAVs, more cameras, more Helicopters, there're are many a new ways to survey than the Roman era patrolling.
Also beef up RAW with more money intelligence and freedom to operate behing enemy lines and destroy them behind enemy lines.
Training:
Our own Generals rate the Infantry 3 out of 10, so spare me the talk.
Pick the most educated, tech savvy men, equip them with not just the basic gear, more live ammo training, etc.
And use more choppers.

This is the most important part. We allow an infection to become gangrene and then resort to amputation in the form of military response assisted by AFSPA.
These insurgencies should a have been taken care of before they had gained a foothold. All that talk about of external intelligence agency being proactive and very successful in the past is to make ourselves feel comfortable.

Sure, I'll just keep praising the under-equipped, under trained, state of our troops, but mind you, you may, just might need more than jingoism to win wars.
Our NSG doesn't have Night Vision Goggles, no decent radio communication.
They were spraying and praying in the Mumbai attacks.
Even the MARCOS

is equipped with cold war era equipment, but you want me to yell, East or West, Indian Army is the best?
The Army has been thoroughly neglected, in all ways you can neglect the armed forces, we need a real Defmin, not some Socialist like Anthony, who's moe interested in protecting his own image rather than protect the country.
