will be more than happy if it can surpass 404 performance
it already is even,it is not perfected .. wiki(ge) -- f404 dry 48.9-53 kn/ wet 78.7-84kn , kaveri last tested result that was out to public dry 52/wet 81 and that is old

if it can excel 414 it's jackpot but outperforming 414 at this stage is day dreaming
it was officially to perform comparable to f414, official target was 60/95+ kn for kaveri (atlest for k9) so I don't think that it did not have the capability to go same as f414 EPE/EDC or EJ 2XX project.

Let's hope some official news comes out and France offset expedite actual test of engine on pv 1 in 2018
me too ,but before that i want to know what actually they will do as kaveri material technology is too old ( when last test officially made public.)

I think is said to have is incorrect statement and planned to have is better articulation further it's always good to compare both dry and wet thrust . Agreed. I do believe that F414 level thrust is manageable as they are pre 1990s technology. So, 65/100kN is something I believe is the limit for now. 90kN must be doable as it is 1980s technology. It is a really horrible shame if we don't do it. F414 was said to be direct derivative of F404 without risk and using same items. So, that is easily doable if F404 level engine is obtained.

I don't see any need for supercruise as the fuel requirements for supercruise is too high even if it is without afterburner. The air drag increases drastically after 0.9 Mach. Fuel consumption increases drastically at 1Mach bit lowers above 1.1Mach and again starts rising simply due to higher sir drag. The most economical cruising wrt both time and range (fuel) is less than 0.9 Mach. Supercruise also causes structural problems to air frames

can any of you guys comment upon the utilization of the thrust vectoring nozzles over the tejas platform?
TVC nozzle in LCA /any single Engine jet(if added)
It'll give the ability to better manueverability only in axis parallel to wings but will share negligible effect on the axis perpendicular to the Wings like F-22 have TVC.

Even if a 3d TVC nozzle added to any SE JET it will behave like 2d TVC.

I have a chota sa question,Can a powerful version of gtre kaveri engine can be plonked on tejas with some upgrades to the airframe and can we add a few extra hardpoints and CFT to it???

That will increase its range and will make it a very potent fighter.

Can be added but ADA has no plan to increase the number of hardpoints.
They only want to increase the range which is the present and major drawback.
Increased internal fuel capacity will give an opportunity to use inner wing stations for heavy load instead of fuel tanks.
CFT is also not planned as of now.

But the plan can be changed because mk2's design is still not freezed.

design of Air-Intakes is different , it seems they have increased the fuel carrying capacity and included more place for internal EW suite & other sensors .
Yup, extra internal fuel was among the primary requirement.
It seems ADA changed the wheel retraction design and shift it to outer side of fuselage.

If in future air force demands an upgrade for LCA mk1a and the mk2(whose design is not finalised) can these additions be done with some upgrades to the airframe, because if done so it will increase LCA's reach and will make it the most potent fighter in its category.

I beleive CFT's and hardpoints can be added.

==============================================================

2 more hardponts can be added at the wingtips and if wings are enlarged that will also make room for 2 more.

since Mk-2 design is not finalised so everything thing is possible with Mk-2 .

but not with mk-1 .
more powerful Engines will burn more fuel & it will reduce range .

upload_2017-8-24_10-57-12.png

more weapons will increase weight and create More drag and reduce range .
range of Tejas Mk-1 is not s o good and reducing it further is not a good Idea .
small increase in thrust is possible but for large increase in thrust they will have to do changes in Air-frames too .
but they should develop triple rack launchers like used in rafale .

CFT is almost not possible for MK1A. No speculations for mk2 until ADA freeze the design.

Additional hardpoints on wing tips will require high level of wing modifications. To house additional wingtip hardpoints , ADA need to either crop down the Aelirons (which reduces the control over Aircraft) or extend the wing for minimum 1/2 feet (which also creates agility issues)

Tejas MK2 will get some minor and major upgrades, here and there ..

Its better with original design with minimum changes, Once in service the aircraft can be upgraded in batches ..

At the moments AF Tejas mk2 seems to be a paper plane lying unattended at ADA's table as all the stakeholders including IAF and media are busy with f16s, gripens and rafales. Besides a few GE powerplant for IN lca mk2 has arrived not for AF version while mating of kaveri with m88 and their offsprings are yet to be delivered.....no one knows when....it's only speculation. IMHO lack of planning and coordination between ada, GOI/MOD and the end user will be killing the project.

Why India’s Tejas MK-2 might have Israel’s Lavi fate due American lobbying!
Published October 3, 2017 SOURCE: MANJUNATH REDDDY/ FOR MY TAKE / IDRW.ORG

Exactly 30 years ago, in last week of September month of 1987, Israeli Cabinet voted to halt development of the Lavi fighter jet, which was to be Israel’s which was to be Israel’s main advanced combat aircraft for the 1990’s.

Program was canceled as a result of pressure from the Reagan Administration and instead, Israel went on to purchase 90 less-expensive American-made F-16 fighters were brought instead which will follow on contracts expanded to 200 units over the years but lead to Lavi once dubbed as most advanced 4th generation fighter jet ever developed went to scrapyard instead of production line and how Tejas MK-2 might see repeat of Israel’s Lavi fate due powerful American lobbying.

Lavi fighter jet was developed from American military aid and technology and when the program started generating lot of buzz around, leading to making countries making a beeline to inquire about the product US Defence lobby saw it has a threat to American-made F-16 fighter aircraft in export market and under Amercian pressure Israel was first made to agree that Lavi will not be exported ever and once that was secured US Defence lobby went into counter-offensive .

To accommodate F-16s in Israeli air force fleet, the requirement for Lavi dropped from initial internal assessment from 200 units to 120 units and later hovered around only 80 units. With Production order for only 80 units and no export guarantees given to American administration meant that the aircraft was more expensive than the F-16 on offer.

Many in Israeli air force and the government started opposing Lavi fighter jet due to rising cost but kept ignoring commitments made by state-owned Israel Aircraft Industries which had promised that prices will fall once the original indented order was restored for 120-200 units.

But Lavi fighter program also saw support withing Israeli air force but people were divided due to large-scale anti program propaganda unleashed by Israeli media on behalf of the American administration and the final nail came when a year before Reagan Administration threatened to reduce annual United States military assistance to Israel if the Lavi fighter program was not canceled and if they do then military assistance will be increased .

India’s Tejas MK-2 lacks any order commitment from Indian Air force and Indian Navy which means unless program gets massive bulk production orders for 120+ jets, project might be declared un-economical, Yet it is unlikely Tejas MK-2 with firm order of more than 120+ units will be costing more than American F-16 Block 70 which will be Made in India, but a reduced order or no order at all and easy availability of F-16 Block 70 in India might create pressure on Indian government to abandon the project altogether and focus only on India’s 5th Generation AMCA project .

American Defence lobby will see India’s Tejas MK-2 program has a threat to its F-16 and F-18 chances in India not due to technological aspect but due to India’s limited budget set for IAF’s modernization and procurement over next twenty years. American administration along with subcontractors can create pressure on Indian government to support them with more military orders even though they are not so keen on the transfer of technology to India.

No ToT, no deal, period.........................We are already having far more better LCA then the grandpa, I say even if they give us ToT, this deal is not feasible. Instead we should buy more strategic freight carrier planes and air refuelers from US.

After warnings on how us arms lobbyists may turn dc against New Delhi if they don't get enough orders to now this story god if this happens it will not only break my heart but also lose the belief that we are free country fuck f-16 why are we even buying that peice of crap instead we should build more Tejas and buy 2 more squadrons of rafale
