So looking at the RFI, it seems that there will be multiple variants of this LSV by force, given by the fact that the RFI asks for stuffs like climate control, shallow water fording, ability to carry about five people with extra battle loads and it will need to be operated from the himalyas down to the plains. Since the vehicle showed in the picture is open top and clearly deviod of the above mentioned specs, i personally think that particular variant is for quick mobility in desert operations. Also looking at the RFI, suggests that the TATA, Ashok leyland and Mahindra armoured vehicle solutions are for a different vehicle class entirely.

Gurkha though a capable off roader is seriously underpowered. I am hoping that Force Motors replaced its puny 85hp engine with something more powerful.

Yes the TATA/AL/Mahindra vehicles are for the light support vehicle role, the Light Strike Vehicle role that Force motors has won is for a VERY specific role basically replacing those open top gypsys used by SF and recon teams in the deserts that can be underslung or even carried inside a Mi-17V5

Light support vehicle competition is still ongoing, in fact we just saw AL’s bid for the first time at Def Expo, the light support vehicle is akin to the US’s JLTV project, it will create a family of vehicles.

Yeah that engine is pretty bad for driving in non off road conditions. But seeing that this is a version of gurkha and derives only some inspiration from it, maybe the engine in the LSV will be different.

I get the feeling this LSV is Gurkha in name only. They must have modified it quite a lot to clear the requirements of the Army.

Okay, is the force lsv going to only replace the gypsy's in desert operations since it is open top? Or are all the gypsy's throughout the country going to be replaced by this variant, which doesn't make much sense since it doesn't looks like that it meets lsv rfi specs. What happened to the TATA variant which was going through trials throughout the country? The one in the spy shots from TeamBhp?
Gypsy (GS-500) got replaced by Tata Safari Storme (GS-800) as general service vehicle

But the gypsy's and storme's were in different weight classes as GSV?
Army decided that having 800kg capacity was better than older 500kg offered by Gypsy :) That's the payload capacity which was enhanced.

This procurement for General Service (GS) vehicle is meant for day-to-day officer/troop transport. So luxuries like AC/heating, power windows ,better comfort & luxury will be present in Storme than Gypsy.

LSV is more of swift operations for Special Forces/other such specialized troops engaged in deserts/rough terrain etc. So it will have different suspenion too

Big news folks, it seems finally LSV has a winner, the most unexpected - to me at least - it is Force Motors!

http://www.autocarpro.in/news-national/force-motors-bags-light-strike-vehicles-indian-army-29421

The vehicles, which have been designed and developed by the company's R&D team, is claimed to have high speed and reliability. The OEM states that the LSV not only uses the proven, rugged and reliable aggregates like engines and transmissions from the Force Motors’ stable but it is also uprated for the demanding applications of the armed forces.

The company states that the LSV has proved its mettle through the rigorous prototype trials conducted by the armed forces for over two years. This involved traversing rough terrains as varied as the scorching deserts of Rajasthan (50deg Celsius) to the sub-zero temperatures in the Himalayas (-30deg Celsius).

The LSV is designed for quick ingress and egress, and is capable of performing on extreme terrain, with manoeuvrability, high speed and stability, 4x4 configuration, and have differential locks on all wheels, similar to the Force Gurkha. It is also equipped with run-flat tyres and has provision to mount assault weapons like a rocket launcher and machine guns. The LSV can be airlifted and dropped into enemy territory, for use as an advance fast strike vehicle.

Speaking on the sidelines of the agreement with the Ministry of Defence, the Force Motors spokesperson said, “We are very happy that the Indian Army has reposed trust in the fully indigenous Light Strike Vehicle developed by our research and development team. This is a small but significant step in creating fully indigenous specialist vehicles for the Armed Forces – a truly ‘Make in India’ initiative”.

Force Motors says it had also supplied the Indian Artillery with new engines for the 155mm Howitzer Guns (Bofors guns), and is also working on trials for the adoption of its indigenously developed engines for the new-generation Dhanush Gun, which is expected to succeed the Bofors guns. Furthermore, the Traveller and Trax range of vehicles are already in service with most of the paramilitary organisations in the country
Disappointed that neither Tata Motors or Ashok Leyland won. The latter offered a very unconventional and innovative design. However, most important is that we have a winner, and hopefully will lead into a contract soon.

Going by the unofficial pictures available, IA has gone in for a short wheelbase and low profile jeep, pretty much a slightly larger version of the Gypsy. Cant wait to see these in 10SF hands!

what ever the vehicle IA has chosen, i don't understand the secrecy behind.
Not one proper pic of the vehicle available, nor it has been showcased in any defence expos.

These are the kind of things that create suspicions.

Suspicions of what?

Indian MOD and Indian defence companies are TERRIBLE at PR, it’s as simple as that

looks great, please get RCWS, with 50 caliber on it.
This one is perfect for mountains because of its compactness and shorter wheelbase, the earlier LSV was longer than this model. Plus a V6 or V8 within with all wheel drive would make it a hoot to drive.
