Looks like upgrades of old equipment hasn’t stopped in the background.

Total 90 were upgraded, first upgraded Schilka delivered in Nov 2014.

BEL said in a statement: "Schilka is an all-weather, self-propelled, tracked, low-level air defence weapon system and its upgraded version has search-cum-track digital radar, with [an] electro-optical fire control system.

"The army has given clearance for bulk production of the enhanced weapon system, whose main engine, auxiliary engine, integrated fire detection, suppression system, nuclear, biological and chemical filter and communication system have also been upgraded."

A 1980s vintage equipment Schilka Air Defence system has been upgraded to a modern weapon platform in a joint venture between Indian Army and Bharat Electronics Limiteu. The last upgraded Schilka Mount rolled out from 510 Army Base Workshop (EME), Meerut in Uttar Pradesh today.

New Delhi: As pictures of police personnel and private security guards in camouflage uniforms went viral, the Indian Army has urged the government not to let police forces wear combat uniforms.

The Army had written to the Defence Ministry on February 24 requesting that guidelines be issued to ensure this.

“Combat dress should not be worn by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) pan India while being employed to handle law and order situations and in urban areas affected by terrorism, as the surroundings do not demand such a requirement,” it said.

“Over a period of time, CAPFs and state police forces in India have started wearing combat uniforms which are just slightly different from the ones worn by Indian Army personnel. These minor variations cannot be distinguished by most civilians giving them the impression that the personnel wearing such dresses in cities and towns of India while engaged in internal security duties, escorting VIPs, on policing duties, static guard posts are Army personnel,” the Army said.

It said wearing of combat dress by CAPFs and police forces may be misinterpreted as the army being deployed for internal security duties and elections.

The force further pointed that this may have an adverse impact on India’s image as a vibrant democratic nation and would be detrimental to national interests.

As per the proposed guidelines, the CAPFs should use different colour and pattern disruptive dress.

It was further stated that its use by state police forces should be restricted only to employment in jungle terrain in Left wing extremism-affected areas.

As per guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry in 2016, bullet proof jackets, which cover most parts of the torso of CAPFs and the state police forces, should be of plain khaki colour and not of combat colour.

The Indian Army also said that sale of Army pattern clothes in the open market needs to be regulated.

Private vendors in open market should establish identity and maintain a record of personnel to whom the army pattern clothes are being sold, it said

Indian Army took this decision after the state police force deployed in New Delhi’s Jafrabad metro station area today was wearing a uniform similar to the disruptive pattern camouflage of the Indian Army.

The army has expressed concern over the use of such dress and said that today our country remains under the constant supervision of national and international media. The use of army uniforms by the police can convey that the army’s help is being taken for work like elections and internal security. This may taint India’s reputation as a vibrant democracy and it can prove to be detrimental to our national interest.

Now listen this Army Veteran.

He is saying that Delhi Police beaten up Mosque Imam when he tried to stop cops from entering into Mosque.

When this Veteran tried to save Imam then cops abused him and thrashed him too.

I don't really agree that army fatigues should not be worn by others. They are fairly close to camouflage that trackers(hunters too sadly) use around the world in forests.
Impersonating is prosecutable, but wearing it should not be banned.

It would have been a Pentagon counterpart IF it were to be a joint HQ for all three services & DMA/MoD. But its not - this building is just for the Army.

Unfortunately, there is still no jointness in letter or spirit. Sad, considering we have a tri-service academy like NDA, but going upstream from there, jointness is totally lacking.
