lol check your sources before sharing it, it gives 404 error. Big companies like SAFRAN would spend more than 2 million per DAY on R&D alone why would they come and make an agreement for 2 million dollars. Below is the link for their R&D spend in a year, which is over 1.1 Billion Euros.

As I said, the contract is for certification only and hence it is not valued in billion dollars. France just needs to approve of the working parameters of the engine and have to do no other work.

Well this is selective absorption of the news as per your convenience. Did you not see the below info at all which indicates that still 20-30% work needs to be done?

Initial assessments by the French company show that 25-30% more work is needed for the Kaveri engine to be combat-worthy.

As reported by ET in July, France has offered a 1-billion euro investment to revive the project. Several rounds of discussions have already taken place since January between Safran, which has developed the M88 engines for Rafale, and Indian developers.

Apart from the initial consultancy fees, India may not need to spend on development as the French side has proposed to make the Kaveri flight-worthy within 18 months for integration into the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft by 2020.

Is incorporating M88 core considered 25% work? France had said that 75% of the engine is in place and rest 25% needs to be completed. Without having core, how will 75% be completed?

The French offer is different from what India asked. France may have offered M88 but why does it mean that India has taken the offer? Do you think an offer involving serious ToT will be signed so quickly without much of negotiations?

The Kaveri engine development project was sanctioned in March 1989 but dropped in 2014-15 after repeated failures. The project for an indigenous engine was helmed by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) of DRDO for mastering one of the most complex technologies. Narayanan said assistance is required for defining the ‘flight envelop’ for the indigenous engine. “That envelop development related to safety is very critical, we are taking help now,” he said. A flight envelop describes its safe performance limits in regard to factors like minimum and maximum operating speeds and elevation.

He said an updated version of the engine will be developed, which will be called K9. “We have up to now K8 (prototype), now we are going to call it K9,” he said. On Tuesday, Defence Minsiter Manohar Parrikar said the Kaveri fighter engine project will be revived and that the DRDO is in discussions with Safran as part of offsets under the Rafale jet deal, inked between India and France in September 2016.

Here are important quotes:
The gentleman claims someone has to only certify Kaveri? and Safran says 25% work still pending? and there is a partnership of 1 billion dollar. So either Safran is investing to complete the 25 % or its safranized Kaveri.

Either ways not all issue are resolved yet certainly not only "certification". No harm in accepting its a work in progress.

This below quote is from the same article. Submitted in Lok sabha by Subash Bhambre.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha in December 2016, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre had called the effort of the GTRE in developing the engine as “an attempt to mastering one of the most complex technologies”. The minister said the altitude test and flying test bed trials for the engine had been completed and other developmental problems were being addressed to make the engine flight-worthy through in-house efforts as well with assistance from abroad

Landing with a shortest possible runway distance is one of the prime feature of a fighter aircraft.. Tejas is no different. The optimized brake management system, the tail chute, the nose wheel steering system and above all the handling quality of the aircraft on ground at that speed in a complete package is not a small task. Fighter programs all over the world have undergone countless iterations to arrive at the best integrated solution. This multi-disciplinary domain was well addressed and a constant improvement was the essence to arrive at the present state.

LCA Tejas Programme achieves another accomplishment:

The Tejas programme achieved a rare distinction by completing 4000 Successful Test Flights today. All the flight tests and aircraft instrumentation related activities are planned, coordinated and executed by the National Flight Test Centre, ADA in Bengaluru. NFTC has experienced Indian Air Force and Indian Navy test pilots and flight test engineers along with the scientists and engineers for telemetering the regular test flying activities in real time in an extremely controlled environment.

Do any Guru know about when next SP is set to roll out ?? or HAL's hot gas balloon burst again? FOC was also set to take place this month. any meaningful taking place?

HAL made all the hungama of showing SP7,8,9 bla bla like they are delivering 1 LCA a month by making media write articles just before the IPO ..After the IPO bloody everything went quiet ..Our PSU Babus also learned the art of marketing gimmicks...only the people who invested in HAL IPO are the biggest fools . Including me :frusty:

Update....on uttam aesa...


Uttam is entering airborne testing both on a biz jet hack as well as on a Tejas test vehicle. If the software development group for it has done as good a job as it claims, we are a couple of years away from having a good product. MK-IA will require focused support.

Update. on kaverii....


Residual issues with the engine have been fixed according to GTRE, including the ones I wrote about. They still plan to fly it on board a Tejas test vehicle just as a demonstration. I have a feeling they might be able to do it.

Balance activities towards FOC, which will further enhance the operational capability of the aircraft are in progress currently. These include enhancement in the ‘g’ load capability, Air to Air Refuelling, additional weapon integration and gun integration. Dr. Girish S Deodhare, Programme Director (Combat Aircraft) and Director, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), has said that the LCA Tejas is expected to achieve FOC by July 2018.

For me gun firing trials during flights would be a key indicator that FOC is near...dont know if they have already tested it ?
