French police:
The Police Nationale is composed of civilian
The Gendarmerie is composed of military

Police nationale and gendarme wanted seperate CT units
The Gendarmerie where first to do this in France, the GIGN was created in 1973
Then the Police Nationale wanted a similar unit, hence the RAID was created.
The anti-gang also wanted a unit, separated from the RAID, they created the BRI.
The GIGN is a CT unit, but can also do direct action mission alongside french special force, at a time they were considered the third circle of the COS (french special operation command, which is made of two “circle”) they were deployed in Afghanistan to do direct action, and is the unit deployed to guard french embassy and protect VIP abroad and in France.

Now to the ranger part,
75th ranger regiment is a seperate regiment.
Anyone who wants to enter this regt needs to first qualify the ranger school. Ranger School is open to soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as select allied military students. (Take gen. VK singh as an example)
Everyone who qualify this course is awarded with "ranger tab" but he isn't affliated with the 75th ranger regt until or unless he completes the pipeline for Ranger Regt.

Only one regiment the 75th. There is no other Ranger Unit. It's a Tier III SOF unit under SOCOM but has one company that works with Tier I forces in JSOC.

The Ranger Tab is something else. It means you went to Ranger school nothing more. 75th Ranger Personel have to go through RASP to qualify for being a ranger. They get a Ranger scroll.

Ranger School is like our JLT Commando Course at Belgaum. Ranger RASP is a whole different beast
