I don't think because in 1962 our PM was Nehru who has no guts & had no proper direction on his foreign & military policy. One more important factor politically biased Krishna menon was defence minister, both never wanted Armed force to become influential in india due to fear of coup . On the other hand Mao was agressive in his policy he is the founding father of mordern Communist China

Our PM even didn't dare to use IAF in 1962 fearing retaliation from PLAAF , Now suituation is different China plays more of mind games with neighbours , eg: flying transport aircraft on disputed territory , issuing staple visa & threating to attack .

China might not attack , but if they get influensed by their ally Pak & plan some misadventure like Operation gilberto or Kargil one never knows India should be prepared for that then:mad::taunt:

Move more squadron of Sukhois , Get the MMRCA inducted soon to be deployed in North east , 145 155MM BAE howitzer & Mountain strike division soon just to be at safer side

But keep all Mig-29 & few squadron of Sukhois in west because one can never predict our nuisance neighbour in western border they will find this as opportunity & sneak in :mad::taunt:
You honestly think that Pakistan would be able to influence China?

For last few months there is a question swirling in my mind , "What is the common thread that between Chinese and Islamist of the world in their thinking? The answer is laying claim on foreign distant land citing some historical dynastic rule over them. If that is true why don't you prove it even if you do your Government has also to take into account the views of the present day generation of the present time. SO stop babbling about your Qing dynasty. Just stay with in your borders and also plan to pull out of Tibet before it is too late.

I honesty feel that China will be ready to fight India to the last Pakistani!
Has China ever told Pakistan to fight India? All China has done is given Pakistan the means to defend itself. Who Pakistan points the guns at is none of China's business.

Time favors China here. The population of Tibet is getting progressively more mixed. There is a railway from Golmud to Lhasa. On one end are 6 million Tibetan Chinese. On the other are 1200 million Han Chinese. Over time, Tibet will be simply be assimilated, much as the Manchus were.

If you have a hammer more things look like a nail, as China military grows they are going to look for targets, India is going to look like a nail. large enought that China does not look like a bully, easy enough they dont have to worry about loseing. Close enought to be easy to get too.

Actually, it's Pakistan that looks like a nail to India. China's 'nail', if you want to call it that, will come out of either Japan or Vietnam. Japan, if China gets really big, and Vietnam, if Chinese growth stagnates.

China will not come into direct confrontation with India, or at least will not like to take the risk yet... Each passing years it will be more difficult for china for any adventure against India. Oh! Yes China will come out with the usual warnings!! few days back China wanted to act smart with its new set of maps to niggle its neighbors ... India's response was the best of all... China will continue to test India's resolve on the boundary and India will continue to respond in kind"¦

But China will definitely push its close friend Pakistan against India... unfortunately China's friend is in mess and it will take another 5 year to come out it "¦

China PLA is too inexperienced for any sort of adventurism, it will get thrashed by the Vietnamese as it happened some 25 / 30 years back ...

Few days back i saw the video clip where a Vietnamese petrol ship ramming a Chinese survey ship that was into the Vietnamese area in SCS... The way the Chinese ship turned back it remains to be seen"¦ A super power in waiting !!!

Hello.
India will be history i guess if China attacked.
If China attacked as you have assumed than it opens the door of opportunity for nations in SCS to exert pressure on China and that is when the fun begins for a nation trying to make a place as a peaceful country.

How do you say Louisiana Purchase in Sioux?
How do you say $0.03/acre in Sioux?

Anyway:

"The sale of Louisiana to the United States was trebly invalid; if it were French property, Bonaparte could not constitutionally alienate it without the consent of the Chambers; if it were Spanish property, he could not alienate it at all; if Spain had a right of reclamation, his sale was worthless." -- Henry Adams

I think we're digressing here.

Back to the point at hand, China won't attack India because there's nothing to gain from attacking India, simple as that. China has built up a fragile tete a tete with the nations around it over the past 15 years. It's currently hitting some friction in the SCS and with Japan. Invading India would only add to that friction and possibly precipitate an unraveling.

Right now, what China wants, from a strategic perspective, is to keep Japan from forming alliances with any other Asian states, especially Vietnam, Russia, or India, while alienating South Korea and Australia from Japan. The end goal is to turn the US-Japan alliance into a strategic liability for the US in Asia, much as the US-Israeli alliance hobbles the US in the Middle East. Invading India accomplishes none of those goals.

well id like to think that im taking a view not offered by most on the forum - at least not on the last 3 pages or so ....... i think china will wait to see the result of the 2014 inndia general election - to see if the resulting goi is weak enough that dragon can pull something off ....the indian military of itself is pretty strong enough to make any adventure pretty costly so what china will be looking for a i a confused state of affairs politically , a military-political disconnect or delay or problems in delivery of vital equipment eg rafael or other such important projects which leaves a sizeable gap and clear advantage to them .....if such a failure in procurement delivery or commissioning of systems occurs that could also be another window of opportunity to dragon

But you have to wonder though--what could China gain that would be worth open war with India? A few rocks along the Himalayas? Gaining those rocks from India isn't worth open warfare over, no matter how much stronger China feels relative to India.

China didn't have very much to lose in 1962, so any gains it made, it could keep for free. The Sino-Soviet Alliance was dead at that point, and the Sino-US relationship was in a deep freeze. By contrast, China has decent relations with most of its neighbors now, which means any territorial gains it made would be extremely unpopular.

As for border claims, I have no idea why China keeps claiming Arunachal Pradesh, but I always felt it had something to do with the fact India still claims all of Jammu and Kashmir. China would like for its claims to be resolved in a comprehensive manner with India and Pakistan at the same time, much like when they were able to settle border disputes with Russia and Kazakhstan in a 3-way negotiation shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union.
