Good question. One young men should ask themselves and get a serious answer before they do it.
Marriage was invented to solve new problems created when we switched from a Hunter/Gatherer society to Farmer Kingdoms.
In H/G, women might get infatuated with a given warrior and end up getting pregnant and know who the father was or could have just been ----ing random warriors an have no idea who the father was. It didn't matter much, the clan shared food and the kids were released into the gaggle of small children as soon as they could walk and talk. Very little kids can do useful work if you give them simple stuff to do. My kid could pick berries at age 16 months, could tell the ripe ones from the green ones and pick more than she ate. So kids were contributing to the group at an early age. By age five they can climb trees like little monkeys and are capable of doing many complex tasks, so they are no longer net consumers of resources. There was nothing to inherit. The only thing anyone owned was the clothes on their back and personal tools and weapons, all of which they made themselves. That stuff got buried with them when they died so they would have it in the afterlife. The clans land and shelter belonged to the community and the only thing that got passed on was your spot at the fire and your place to sleep.
Once farming became the the way of life there were specialists and ownership of property, be it farms, craftsmen's shops, or homes. There was no communal living so women had to be attached to a single male to insure that his children inherited his accumulated wealth, and to establish responsibility for the feeding and care of each child.
This system evolved in Western Europe in step with the Christian religion until we had the highly formalized and legalized institution of marriage that existed in the mid 19th Century, which I will call Traditional Marriage. Traditional Marriage was a bargain, where men, who were the only ones who could own property or have a trade or a job, agreed to take a woman as a wife in a lifetime deal, the "til death do us part" section of the contract was expected to be carried out no matter what and was enforced by law and custom. In exchange for providing a woman food and shelter for life, a man could expect a lifetime of companionship, moral support, housecleaning, child bearing and rearing, faithful protection of his property and social reputation, and regular sex willingly and lovingly given.
This system worked and created stable prosperous societies. It did tie people in a social straight-jacket and limited their choices in life, but repaid them with a stable and safe life.
Then Women's Liberation appeared on the scene. What that did over the course of the last 150 years was to enable women to walk away from their half of the grand bargain that marriage had evolved into, while managing to keep the part where women had a right to expect financial support from men. A huge number of marriages end up in divorce these days, and the woman usually ends up making a financial gain at the man's expense. If there are children, the man is on the hook for 20 years of financial support for the kids, has to pay the woman to raise them, and is lucky if he is allowed to see them more than a token amount.
So, to answer to the original question, I have no idea. I don't see much benefit for a young man to get married. If you really want kids, you had better do a great job of screening before you decide on a mate. If you fail you could end up in a lifetime of financial thralldom with the possibility of jail if you get fired, laid off, or for any reason miss a few support payments. That means limited job mobility, and no ability to try to start a business. And if you do work hard and accumulate wealth despite the support payments, you can be sure your wife will return to court and be granted more money because you can afford it and your kids deserve their fair share.
Until this changes, the best strategy I see for a young man in the West is to skip college, attend trade school, and become a skilled tradesman. These guys usually work for themselves or form a small company with one or two of their mates and get paid by the job. You gain freedom from working for institutions which are dominated by insane Feminists, freedom to work when you feel like it, and an ability to dodge taxes by working for cash or barter. Example, my ex brother in law did concrete work. He once traded doing a new driveway for a $2000+ Belgian hunting rifle that he couldn't afford. No money changed hands, no taxes, no government involvement, everyone was happy. If you are single you don't need a large house, SUV, or fancy furniture, it is women who need such things. A single guy can get a small apartment with crappy furniture and a used pickup truck or van for business and be quite satisfied, and spend his extra cash and free time on a hobby or artistic pursuit.
Just make sure you learn something people always need and pays well, like plumbing, electrical, heating and AC, carpentry, etc. Don't get women pregnant, and don't display too much wealth or ambition so you don't attract gold diggers. You'll have more of the good stuff like job satisfaction, freedom, good sex, drinking with your mates, and quiet time to read or think, and far less of the hassles and drudgery in life.
No, you aren't doing your best for society and building a future, but society quit looking out for the interests of men somewhere back in the 70s.
