russia is not what it was when it was part of soviet union. now russia is wise old man who has limited options. lost glory and indecisive domestic political situation will make russia an average performer for atleast next one decade, this is the time for India to make some space for its own and make new allies without any substantial interference from external players

Hardly. It's just temporary. Pretty soon either Germany or France will be on top for sometime. Then it will be replaced by Russia again. Shouldn't make a major difference to Russia because our biggest deals are with them. $12-20Billion MKI, A couple of Billion for the MRTA, $25-30Billion for PAKFA are just a few to name. DRDO said Russia is involved in 200 of their projects as of 2011.

In the 2012-13 period we will sign some more deals for C-130, P-8 and C-17. French will get another deal for 3 Scorpene's. So even that will be calculated.

Btw, it is 33 MKI this year and not 37.

russia is involved in 200 projects-yes. but many of them needs formal signing of contract and negotiating terms of engagement. like pak-fa and mrta, many others are still in negotiating phase

I think there is no shame in accepting that the US has one of the most advanced military machines on this planet. If we are going to use our tax payers money to enhance our military machine, then we should work with the best (the US) to do so. Not just have a buyer and seller relationship but also work on ToT with them. And even become part of the supply chain in military equipment.

Russia-India relations will continue but it should be clarified that Indo-US relations would have no impact on relations between the two.

It varies year to year!!!

It was Israel two years back then again Russians came on top, not its US's turn!!

Like P2p said once we start to induct Pakfa or MRTA, Russian will top once again but it could change if we order more stuffs from US, bottomline is no one can hold onto No.1 for long in future like Russian did in the past.

It all depends on the requirement, cost, ToT, and which side the Minister got out of the bed!
