We needed to be aware, react and make a huge issue out of it. Every true Indian's (man, woman alike) ego has now been hurt. I say good job GOI when it decided to ban the documentary. Had there been no controversy, the netizens might not have known about the "Sexual Violence" in the First World. Every Indian must know that Delhi is much safer for the women than the NY City and/or London.

If awareness was the goal, a video like this counter-video was welcome. Written protest, discussions - everything is welcome. But ban is not. Do you support the ban on "Kissa Kursi Ka" as well, which showed Sanjay Gandhi in bad light?
People should have the right to satirize and criticize the government, religion and any established order. Banning, censoring only creates distorted images of our society.
In this case, netizens got aware of sexual violence in western countries, not because of the ban, but because the ban failed and some individuals took upon themselves the task of providing counter information and counter-videos, which is what should have been done in the first place.

I laud the gentleman who made the video in reply to Udwin's documentary.

It is time we stand up and be counted and not kowtow and cringe every time any white folk struts around hectoring us on ills of society, morals and so on.

This video has caught the eyeballs in the US and UK, if newspaper reports of that area is to be believed. I am sure they realise that it is fine to rant on the evils in India, but then it is like a pot calling the kettle black.

Yea the ban was counterproductive and really backfired in a big way. The documentary does not merit the amount of attention it has gotten. It would've been low key if it had not gotten banned in India. It's the ban and GOI's knee jerk response that generated the hype around it. I don't know on what grounds it was banned but as a matter of practicality, the ban was a boneheaded move.

Anybody watching the Daily Show, the Nightly Show, the Colbert Report (concluded in 2014), Last Week Tonight by John Oliver and similar shows very well understand that not all is not well with the US.
These shows raise important issues in the form of satirical comedy. But they do help in generating awareness. In a representative democracy, we should constantly criticize (both positively and negatively) our government and politicians and hold them accountable for their jobs. Same goes with society and who's who of society. Would banning these shows help?

The comparison doesn't seem valid.

The Daily Show and other US TV shows have regular viewership. Something like Arnab's shouting matches.

That can't be compared with a documentary that filmed by a foreign national who released it by ignoring local laws.

Also Indian TV channels are already self critical of shortcomings that ail India.
