@LETHALFORCE I am sure it isn't. Though there maybe some overlap but India and US have different interests in Afghanistan.

US wants a political solution to the quagmire even if it means making Taliban a partner in the government. It also wants to maintain some force in a whilecountry that borders Iran while projecting a win in this 16 year war.

India has very clear goals. No Paki influence in Afghanistan and therefore a big no to Taliban. US doesn't care about that.

Don't be so sure. India knows that Taliban will either have to be wiped out completely or it will take stake in the govt of afghanistan . Now the first option will require tremendous mass murdering which nobody not even Trump has appetite for.
So Taliban will be part of peace process.

The Indian priority here will be that Taliban must be dis-armed gradually before entering govt and to exert influence on certain fractions of Taliban.

What about the logistics? How do you think US can force/use Pakis if they decide to block NATO supply Lines?

Is there an opportunity here for India to use POK for Amerki supply ? :biggrin2:

I am pretty confident to take out Taliban , USA can ready to sacrifice Afghanistan as nation

As Taliban mainly pashtu org , it's possible that USA/NATO break Afghanistan by Hindukush in Pashtu majority area( Historic India, Kabul-Kandahar-ghazni) and Khorasan (Sistan-Herat-Bactria).

It will complete few clear objectives,

1) USA let Taliban to take Pashtu majority eastern part , It will help them to get rid of it .

2) Give Pakistan the strategic depth it want in western frontier

Win win for both America and Pak

Khorasan can be used as strategic replacement of Afghanistan , as it wil continue to be NATO base in central asia , it can also be use to tackle Iran .

Never trust uncle sam

China Calls Trump’s ‘Terror Haven’ Warning to Pakistan a Bluff
New Delhi (Sputnik) — China has come to the rescue of Pakistan after US President Donald Trump accused the country of harboring terrorists.

"Pakistan was on the front line in the struggle against terrorism and had made great sacrifices and important contributions in the fight against terrorism," Hua Chunying, Spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

"We believe that the international community should fully recognize Pakistan is anti — terrorism," Hua Chunying said.

The US President had said “We can no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe heavens for terrorist organizations," while announcing a new US strategy in South Asia.

"China and Pakistan are close allies; therefore, China does everything to defend Pakistan. In fact, for the past several months US influence on Pakistan has diminished while Pakistan is more reliant on China. Therefore, with firm backing from China, Pakistan will hardly heed to the fact that US’ geo political stand in South Asia is changing," Robinder Sachdev, Director of an independent think tank, Imagindia Institute told Sputnik.

What does the American army do to combat the drug trade from Afghanistan? Isn't that where the Taliban makes a lot of their income?

They should napalm their opium fields.

There are Turkmenistan , Uzbekistan , Tajikistan sharing borders with afghanistan.
Traditionally these countries have been in Russian orbit but usa can put a lot of money on table for transit rights to afghanistan.

Actually American companies are making billions of dollars from those opium fields...... So why they will destroy those fields??

Look at the map these countries are landlocked and dependent on Russia.

Trump: "We will stay in Afghanistan until our victory"

Pence: "We are here to help the Afghans win," Pence said.

The president pledged that we will remain there until we win. " # Afghanistan # Colony # Intervention # US # Pence # Trump # Pentagon
In an interview with NBC, US Vice President Mike Pence answered a number of questions concerning the new US policy in Afghanistan. Previously, US President Donald Trump advocated the dispatch of an additional contingent of US military personnel to Afghanistan. According to Pens, American troops in Afghanistan are in order to help local authorities in the fight against terrorists. Pence added that soldiers of the US Army are in Afghanistan "at the forefront of the spear" of the struggle against international terrorism.
At the same time, the vice-president evaded a direct answer to the question of how long the US military will remain in the United States.

Pakistan using India as 'excuse' to support terrorist groups: US
Aug 23, 2017, 10:50AM IST PTI

WASHINGTON: Pakistan is using a perceived threat of encirclement by India as an "excuse" to continue its support to terrorists, a Trump administration official has said, dismissing concerns over Indian development activities in the war-torn country.

"What India is doing in Afghanistan is not a threat to Pakistan. They're not building military bases. They're not deploying troops," National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Michael Anton said on Tuesday.

This is an "excuse" on the part of Pakistan, Politico quoted Anton as saying.

"In the worst case," the Trump administration official said, the Pakistani government has been guilty of "active direct support" for terrorist groups.

"(Indians) are not doing the things that would constitute encirclement, for lack of a better term, which is one of the things that the Pakistani's complain about," he said.

His comments came after US President Donald Trump laid out his policy for Afghanistan and the larger South Asian region. Trump sought a
greater involvement from India
while criticising Pakistan for tolerating terrorist safe havens and for its support to terrorists.

The US president has preferred a regional approach for peace in Afghanistan and said the US "can no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe havens for terrorist organisations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond."

Pakistan's foreign office reacted to Trump's announcement of the new strategy, saying the threat to peace and security "cannot be isolated from the complex interplay of geopolitics, continued existence of festering disputes and pursuit of hegemonic policies."

"Non-resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the primary obstacle to peace and stability in the region."

The foreign office asked the US to work with Pakistan to eradicate terrorism, instead of relying on the "false narrative of safe havens."

Pakistan Doesn't Deserve Second Chance: Afghan Daily
The editorial came two days after Donald Trump warned Pakistan not to keep backing terrorists fighting American forces in Afghanistan.
Indo-Asian News Service | Updated: Aug 23, 2017 17:24 IST

The editorial came two days after Donald Trump warned Pakistan not to keep backing terrorists.

Kabul: Echoing US President Donald Trump's charges that Pakistan was backing terrorists in Afghanistan, a leading Afghan newspaper on Wednesday said Islamabad cannot be trusted any more.

"Terrorists (are) infiltrating to Afghanistan from Pakistan, a hostile neighbour that has been supporting and harbouring insurgency," the Afghanistan Times said in an editorial.

"This is another chance for Pakistan to mend its ways by shunning supporting terrorists and stand sincerely with Afghanistan in the fight against terror," it said.

"But Islamabad deserves no chance as it always stabs at the back,"
it said, adding that Pakistan had every time betrayed the international community and the US in particular on the issue of insurgents.

The editorial came two days after Donald Trump warned Pakistan not to keep backing terrorists fighting American forces in Afghanistan.

Mr Trump said that the US can no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe havens for terrorists.

The editorial said the US administration appeared to be getting tougher against Pakistan. "So the end of Pakistan double game is very much close."

Pakistan says U.S. must not make it a 'scapegoat' for Afghan failures

By Syed Raza Hassan

KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan rejected on Wednesday U.S. criticism of its efforts to fight terrorism saying it should not be used as a scapegoat for the failure of the U.S. military to win the war in Afghanistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled his policy for Afghanistan on Monday, committing to an open-ended conflict there and singling out Pakistan for harboring Afghan Taliban insurgents and other militants.

U.S. officials later warned that aid to Pakistan might be cut and Washington might downgrade nuclear-armed Pakistan's status as a major non-NATO ally to pressure it to do more to help bring about an end to America's longest-running war.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif added his voice to a chorus of indignation in Pakistan over the U.S. criticism, reiterating Pakistan's denial that it harbors militants.

"They should not make Pakistan a scapegoat for their failures in Afghanistan," Asif said in an interview to Geo TV late on Tuesday.

"Our commitment to war against terrorism is unmatched and unshaken."

Pakistan has for years been battling militants who are seeking to overthrow the state with bomb attacks and assassinations.

But critics say the Pakistani military nurtures other Islamist factions, including the Afghan Taliban, which are seen as useful to Pakistan's core confrontation with old rival India.

Asif said Pakistan had suffered great losses from militancy - the government estimates 70,000 people have been killed since Pakistan joined the U.S. "war on terrorism" after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

But he said Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism were being taken for granted and dismissed the notion the United States could "win war against terror by threatening us or cornering us".

"Our contributions, sacrifices and our role as a coalition country have been disregarded and disrespected," Asif said.

The relationship between Pakistan and the United States has endured periods of extreme strain during the past decade, especially after al Qaeda militant leader Osama bin Laden was found and killed by U.S. special forces in Pakistan in 2011.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is due to meet Asif in coming days, on Tuesday outlined a range of options to change Pakistan's approach but conceded there were concerns about putting too much pressure on Pakistan.

Asif said Pakistan was also angered by Trump's appeal to India to do more in Afghanistan.

"Attempting to isolate Pakistan will not yield anything but a dangerous sharpening of strategic fault lines," said Sherry Rehman, a senior opposition politician and former Pakistani ambassador to the United States.

Former cricket star turned opposition politician Imran Khan said Pakistan should finally learn a valuable lesson: "Never to fight others wars for the lure of dollars," he said on Twitter.
