Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) cornered a suspected terrorist this afternoon in Lucknow's Thakurganj neighbourhood.
The 'terrorist' is suspected to be one Saiful who was allegedly involved in the Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh train blast.

"The operation is the result of the UP police receiving specific inputs regarding possible terror suspects in the state," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljeet Chaudhary said, adding the terror suspect might be linked to train blast in Madhya Pradesh this morning.

At least eight persons were today injured, two of them seriously, in the blast in Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train near Jabdi station in Shajapur district.
The ATS operation came hours before the final phase of polling in Assembly election covering 40 seats in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The search for the suspected terrorist began around 3:30pm after the UP ATS received a tip that some terrorists might be staying in a house in Haji Colony in Thakurganj .

Some three dozen policemen then started evacuating the houses in the neighbourhood. The suspect apparently started firing on the police, after which 10 elite commandos from the Bijnaur police facility were summoned to control the situation. The exchange of fire between the UP ATS and the suspected terrorist went on for over 30 minutes, reports said.

The ATS cordoned off the densely populated colony.
IG Lucknow Zone A Satish Ganesh said, "The suspect was not surrendering. Instead he was resorting to firing. Chilli bombs were used to smoke him out."
Arun, who was conducting the operation, said, "When the police knocked the door (of the house where the terror suspect is holed up), he closed the door, and then there was a sound of pistol fire, which proved that he has weapons.

"We are not in a hurry to finish the operation, but want to catch him alive. Hence, we are using chilly powder," he said.

He said the suspect resorted to intermittent firing. "We have withheld firing from our side. It appears only one person is hiding inside the house," he said

I agree....

but

can't blame the police entirely, because the opportunities to use SWAT tactics are so rare outside of conflict areas...
=============

Police must develop serious SWAT capabilities. Wearing black dungarees and carrying MP5/ Glock17 means nothing. #LucknowTerrorDrama

What do you expect if you fire chilli bombs and tear gas for 6 hours in response to bullets? They want to capture him alive so as to not antagonize a particular community during elections.

4 -5 other gang members of them have been caught alive, so the capture-them-alive-to-extract-information theory falls flat.

In any case, as a last resort they have to be gunned down if UP Police dosnt want blood of its own men on its hand.

why don't they use injections to shoot and faint them and capture them there after?

I don't know what it is called but they should have it.

The police didn't even clear the crowd from the scene. They were begging the crowd which was standing out side the door, "thoda side hona, humein andar jaana hai"

So finally ISIS made its first mark in india with one dead pig and how many more to come .. Lets fasten our seat belt guys more will be on the way for sure from WB, Kerala and Tamil Nadu too ...

ISIS Flag, Train Time Table Found Near Terror Suspect's Body In Thakurganj Near Lucknow

A terror suspect believed to be part of a group that was planning a major terror attack in Uttar Pradesh was found dead last night after a 12-hour operation to capture him alive from a house on the outskirts of Lucknow. Saifullah's body was found when the Anti-Terror Squad blew up a wall to enter the house in Thakurganj around 3 am last night, hours before the final round of voting for the Uttar Pradesh election on Wednesday. The police said he was an active member of the terror group ISIS and was believed to be involved in a train blast in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh yesterday. The bomb used in the blast was allegedly assembled in the house and an ISIS flag was also found there.

The operation began around 3.30 pm yesterday, when reports emerged that the police were hunting for two terror suspects hiding in the house. At 6 pm, the police said it would be over in a few hours, but the stand-off stretched into dawn.

For hours, the police negotiated with the suspect to get him to surrender and even got him to speak to his brother, senior Anti-Terror Squad officer Aseem Arun said today. Chilli bombs were used to draw him out, but nothing worked, he added.

Eight pistols, 650 rounds of ammunition, 50 fired rounds, explosives, gold, cash, passports, SIM cards and a train time table were found along with the body. "The danger was grave, but we managed to avert it... Had we caught him alive, we would have extracted more information, but we had no choice," Mr Arun said.

The slain terror suspect belongs to the Khurasan module of the ISIS and was an active member. Whether he has been indoctrinated or not is a matter of investigation," the officer told reporters.

"The danger was grave, but we managed to avert it.
What was the grave danger he is speaking of?

It was a terrorist holed up in a single storey building which had free space around it. They could have lathi charged the crowd, encircled the building and waited till infinity.

At the same time, the SC has sent a notice to LK Advani and reopened the Babri conspiracy case against him.

On one hand the Jihadis are so good in their taquuiya that even after so many terrorist acts globally, they keep claiming that it has been done by an extremist fringe and has nothing to do with mainstream Muslims. And on the other hand our SC is hell bent on proving a point that the Babri demolition was an act sponsored by the ruling dispensation. All of this will play into the hands of jihadi propaganda. We are a nation with messed up priorities.

I think that UP police swat gear was decent and they did a fairly good job.

They used ballistic shield for storming the house, which is good and once again prove the effectiveness of this system in CQB.
Having said that,it left much to desire.

Traditional knee and elbow pad has a tendency to slip (as evident in the photo above UP SWAT) and they tend to be uncomfortable for long duration.

They need insertable knee and elbow pad which remain in their position without causing any discomfort to the soldier.

It was disappointing to see their weapons devoid of any rails, which is basic in modern combat. As a result there was no reflex sight, laser or rifle mounted flash light. An elite force of a state of more than 22 crore people and still does not have reflex sight as standard, pathetic! One more thing which was missing from there rifle was suppressor, actually rifle when fired produce high decibel sound , particularly in a confined place such as house, these sound may not only cause pain and ringing in the ears, but they will also cause permanent hearing loss or damage .That's why suppressor are used by SF around the world in CQB.

This operation took place in dark/night.In such a situation rifle mounted laser and flashlight are widely used world over. This give the forces upper hand over terrorist while performing CQB in dark. But,even these were missing.

There were no rails on the helmet of SWAT for mounting NVG ,flashlight, camera,or friend or foe system.Such system are extremely useful in the darkness.Would avoid friendly fire and provide enhanced situational awareness.

UP SWAT used tear gas and chilli grenade but they themselves were not equipped with combat gas mask, which was an absolute requirement in such a scenario. What are they up to!!! Since they wanted to capture suspect alive they should have used SLEEPING GAS ,which render the person motion less or unconscious.Being an elite unit they should have been equipped with it,no excuse!

They were also lacking a portable recon robot, which could have lead the charge and provide real time info from inside the house without putting forces in the direct line of fire.Sometime they said there is one guy, sometimes two and then three at last it turned out to be only one, they were also not clear about the weapons he was carrying. This show how they were at disadvantage in absence of a system relaying real time info.

I also do not recall seeing any corner shot weapon.

If it was up to me ,I would have first lobbed some smoke grenade followed by pumping of sleeping gas inside the house. Then after sometime breach the wall or door of the house and send in the recon throwbot, followed by SWAT in gas mask with ballistic shield .Once terrorist was located through throwbot ,would have lobbed in some flashbang and then storm the place. The lead person would have been carrying 9mm pistol so that even if the terrorist was shot there was a chance of his survival. However, the sleeping gas would have already rendered him unconscious or motionless.

When UP police beat Telangana anti-terror team during Lucknow encounter

New Delhi, February 8: Call it shocking and unbelievable but the Uttar Pradesh actually beat Telangana Anti-Terrorist squad mistaking them for a part of some terror outfit.

The Telangana ATS kept saying that they had come to help UP police but unfortunately, UP police didn't know Telugu which is quite obvious.

Actually, Telangana ATS was the one who gave inputs about the presence of ISIS terrorist in Thakurganj area of Lucknow. They were roaming for around fifteen days before the Lucknow terror operation got into full swing after MP train explosion.

On the other side, Uttar Pradesh was on alert and thus the Itawa police caught three ATS officers, mistook them as terrorist and kept beating them all night in the lockup.

The misunderstanding which aroused due to language differences has left Telangana ATS disappointed.

They were left only when their fourth member reached police station and explained the whole matter.
