You are right here. I was amazed when they left the Bagram air base, and pulled soldiers out. Why didn't they stay until they had gotten everyone out, before they left?

Bagram is something like 60km North of Kabul, if they had to hold it they they would need many more troops to secure the road and the base also. The may have calculated it's better to just focus on one site.
