It's nice to see a tank thread alive again. The T-90 sticky is missing.

@Damian

The Object 195 is bigger than the Arjun and still weighs lesser. I wonder how the Russians did it. Anyway, do you know what engine powers the prototype?

I'm beginning to admire you intense passion to promote your country Armand.. :thumb:
France sells one or two parts out of 1000 for a tank or an aircraft and Armand thinks France owns Russia.

Don't you have to spend something to make something? Russia is busy slashing its R&D budget at the same time it is cancelling armour purchases.
They have their funds. US is slashing it's budget as well, I don't see anybody complaining a lot in the US.

This is the third Russian attempt at a modern MBT and the trend is it will be full of French kit. They might as well give up trying to make domestic systems as every year there is a new contract with French companies. First it was Catherine FC, then it was Thales comms gear, then it was Sagem INS. I am awaiting the next announcement for French automatic transmission and power packs. There is a real uproar over the Army Chief saying they won't buy armour for another 5 years.
Well they need to upgrade their armor badly. We're expecting our tests for Arjun Mk3 (with indigenous engines) soon this year. Once that clears, we would not need to buy foreign made tanks anymore as Arjun Mk2 and 3 would become replacements of oldest of our T-72s and T-90s.

But yes, I must agree; French components are really quality stuff. :D

The Catherine FC is 15% the value of a new T-90S, adding Thales comms gear brings the total over 20%. The deal with Sagem will help make its future BMS pushing it to 25%. This is already in the works. SESM tranny and PPs will push it over a third if selected. France already runs the Russian automobile industry, selling aircraft carriers and outfitting 10-12% of Sukhoi kit, selling the engines to Russia's new helicopters, dominating regional and business aviation. We own this bytch and gets better every year as Russia continuously falls on its face.

Well, the turret is unmanned which means that there less armour is required. In case of the EGS (German NGP prototype) frontal armour is reported to have a thickness of 2 meters and weight would not exceed that of an uparmoured Challenger 2 tank.

Dunno what engine it was, but probably nothing less than 1500HP strong. ;)

That's interesting. So, are things only going to get bigger from now on?

What is the engine scene in Russia today? This 1500HP may only be a prototype of better things to come, I hope.

It's not that bad, modern V-92 Diesel engines are something around 1000HP strong, but the problem is with too low production force, so Russians can't afford much of them for their modernized T-72B tanks. There are also some projects of future tank engines, "Armata" is reported to have 1200HP engine.

BTW:

Methos, have You hear smth.about SPz Puma whit 120mm + autoloader?
I heard that some prototype is making, but BW is not interested in. It's rather interesting, becouse SPz Puma have better protected hull sides and lower front hull then most MBT's on the word. If Germans redesignted upper front hull SPz Puma +120mm can by nex.gen Germans tank in low-cost option.

No, it's no true - Ob.195 is not "overbig"

from otvaga2000:

I think that the graphic comparison above is not so accurate. Of course I am only taking off from the Russian soldier standing besides that covered example.

Leclerc is the lightest Western MBT, it is the closest to their weight requirement.

You know Armand you must be employed by the French Commerce Ministry to push for French weapons... ROLF. But I must agree that Lecrec is way better than current Russian tanks, and it looks cool.

You are talking about the first batch without tropicalisation which has been in storage since the third came out. The current standard is one the most reliable.

3. and 4. and 5. - In Russia are redy:
-2V16-1 from OAO CzTz (1100kW)
-UTD-38 (Transmasz from Barnaul city) (1200kW)
- KaDwi gas turbine from Kaluga (920-1500kW)
About transmision - there is redy autotransmision both for T-90MS and for new "Ob.xx"
and this in your opinnion doesn't exist?

There is no such tank as Black Eagle... "another" western european specialist that do not know official designation of tank prototype made somewhere in east.

Official designation name is Object 640.

Object 195 also is not a fail, this tank showed that Russians are capable to design something better and actually show it, than most countries in Europe can do. Show me something similiar made in France, with similiar high level of protection and 152mm high pressure smoothbore gun mounted in completely unmanned turret... sometimes arrogance and iggnorance of western europeans is... incredible.

Leclerc is the lightest Western MBT, it is the closest to their weight requirement.
Current modern variants of Leclerc have a weight close to 60 tons, or 60 tons allready in case of SXXI variants. Not to mention that Leclerc even in it's most basic and lightest variant is over the maximal weight limit for Russian Army in case of tanks in classical design. Object 195 weighting approx ~55 tons was too heavy and big for Russians.
