'SUPER -30' COCKPIT..

The glass cockpit avionics package, developed by Russia's Avionica MRPC and Tekhnocomplex Scientific and Production Centre, will include new-generation hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls made by KB Aviaavtomatika, panoramic active-matrix liquid crystal displays, and a compact OLS infra-red search-and-track sensor developed by the Ekaterinburg-based Urals Optical & Mechanical Plant. The mission management avionics package will include dual redundant core avionics computers developed by the Defence Research & development Organisation's (DRDO) Bangalore-based Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE) and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). The integrated defensive aids suite, now being developed by a joint venture of DARE and Cassidian of Germany, will include the MILDS AN/AAR-60 missile approach warning system (MAWS).

The open-architecture IDAS has been under joint development by DARE and Germany-based Cassidian since 2006, and will include the AAR-60(V)2 MILDS F missile approach warning system, the EW management computer and Tarang Mk3 radar warning receiver (developed by DARE and built by Bharat Electronics Ltd),

Developing the 'Smart Skin' concept for Su-30MKI

The pre-planned product improvement roadmap for the Su-30MKI continues to make steady progress, with two Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30MKIs, delivered in mid-2002, being dispatched to United Aircraft Corp (UAC) of Russia's Irkutsk-based facility (IRKUT Corp) where both airframes will be strengthened and refurbished, and their navigation-and-attack system will be upgraded in order to arm the aircraft with the BrahMos supersonic air-launched cruise missile for both maritime strike and ground attack. Thus, while all structural and electrical work will be undertaken at Irkutsk, the Tikhomirov-NIIP will upgrade the Su-30MKI's existing NO-11M 'Bars' passive phased-array radar's performance and operating modes by incorporating a radar target extraction LRU. Once all this has been done, the two upgraded Su-30MKIs will be flown back to India to begin the weapons qualification test-firings, which will be jointly conducted by BrahMos Aerospace and the IAF.

And come 2014, UAC, together with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will begin upgrading the first 100 IAF Su-30MKIs by modifying their airframes to make them stealthy, converting the existing 'Bars' into an active phased-array radar, enhancing the situational awareness by incorporating active electronically scanned transmit/receive arrays on the aircraft's wings, and beefing up the defensive-aids suite by installing a combined radar/laser warning system and a missile approach warning system. Tikhomirov-NIIP had by last November begun laboratory-level tests of a 'Bars', which was fitted with an AESA array made up of X-band transmit/receive modules built by Istok JSC. Since then, another two 'Bars' radars have been modified as part of the R&D phase, which will last until 2012, and will be followed by flight qualification a year later. Incidentally, Tikhomirov-NIIP has also developed the Irbis-E passive phased-array radar for the Su-35BM and will soon begin work on modifying the Irbis-E into an active phased-array radar, which will go on board the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) that will be co-developed by UAC and HAL. In addition, both UAC and Tikhomirov-NIIP have come together to develop the 'smart skin' concept under which an AESA array's transmit/receive modules can be placed anywhere on board the Su-30MKI to generate the relevant radiation field required for achieving more than 180-degree field-of-view.

why cant the Chief take up this matter with the maker and developer without informing the media ???

Why the hell you want to inform the enemy that you have some problem with the aircraft, how so ever small it is.

SU 30 MKI are the only deterrent after Nukes and missiles. If enemy has doubt about the deterrent then we are in for trouble.

Only reason i see is Russian showing "Live with it...." attitude and ACM exhausting all back channel tactics. What have been learned from LCA development is updating FCS is no simple deal, it requires a series of lab tests followed by Test Fights before new/updated portion could go active. Since problem has been identified as 'design deficiency' and also since project SU-30MKI is still under warranty, the entire responsibility lays on Russians for expenditure required towards correcting this flaw. And we all know from our experience where Russians would be reluctant.

Indonesia Says 'No, Thanks' to More Sukhoi Fighters | Defense | RIA Novosti

Indonesia will buy no more Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia, opting instead for U.S. F-16s, Air Marshal Eris Herryanto told Flightglobal aviation news portal on Thursday.
The Indonesian Air Force has 10 Su-30 and Su-27s with six additional fighters on the way.
Money is being made available to accelerate the refurbishment of its existing fleet of 15 Lockheed Martin C-130s, as well as buy four C-130Hs from Australia and upgrade them, and purchase more Indonesia Aerospace CN-295 transports, said Herryanto, who is secretary general of the Indonesian Defense Ministry.
"We are waiting for 24 F-16s from the USA. With those, we will have enough aircraft in our fighter inventory for the next 20 years. And that means we have enough Sukhoi fighters for now," he said.
"Indonesia has also invested in South Korea's K-FX program, which will produce fighters to replace aircraft like the [Northrop] F-5s and F-16s. We aim to buy enough K-FX fighters for three squadrons of 16-22 aircraft each. That will cover our long-term requirements."
Sukhoi's press service said they were not aware of Indonesia's plans.
A source at United Aircraft Corp. (UAC) who spoke on condition of anonymity said he was not surprised by Indonesia's decision, as there has been no discussion with Jakarta for any more Sukhoi sales.

Su-30 Multirole Fighter
Indonesia recently bought six Su-30 fighters to be delivered within the next three years (two a year).
The country's Air Force will thus have a total of 16 Sukhois, which require spare parts, servicing, maintenance, etc, he said.
Any joint aircraft project with South Korea is unlikely to materialize soon, the source said.

you are not giving him even that much room that he would thought about it ! It is after all the lives of his pilots which is at stake not yours. It is naive to blame him for loss of deterrence which would not be there is your system does not work. Does DRDO wish to bluff ?

'SUPER -30' COCKPIT..

Aaaaaargh, P K Sengupta BS !!!

That is not Super-30 cockpit, that is just Su-35 cockpit (the teal colour scheme is distinctly Russian).

This is super-30 cockpit, this was seen in a flying testbed at Irkut factory. The colour is consistent with Indian MiG-29K cockpit.

Go to page 12 in this document, look at the flight simulator in the background inside a DARE lab, you will notice it there as well.

And he still won't quit his rant about the Virgillius ew suite !! Somebody tell him that the ew suite on Indian fighters is not by Elettronica !! that suite was first developed by DARE in JV with Elisra for LCA, applied on MiG-27 and later on MiG-29 UPG with aesa jammers !! The current EW suite for Su-30 in development is called 'Eagle Eye' which the shareholder report from 2010 lists under R&D (link) and a 2011 report from JP Morgan shows orders for Airborne electronic warfare system, most likely for pre-production prototypes (link).

In all seriousness, were you *******************by someone associated with DRDO ? You seem to bring them in every unrelated discussion. Get yourself checked by a mental health professional, I mean it.

No Kunal, this is the Su-35 cockpit, with a small MFD on the left of the cockpit.

The MFD's in the prototype at Irkut are all touchscreen, and has a MFD on the right.

PS: there is no Su-35 upgrade planned ;)
