I first qualified with the M-14. The first thing I noticed about the M-16 was the tinny sound of the buffer spring - - like a toy.

The Problem with AKM ( Insas & Galil ) is the huge chunk of metal going back and forth, this create violent instability, This is not in western deign rifles..

Now in AR-15 this part is much smaller better deigned reducing the weight and the recoil..
Both have it's advantages and disadvantages.
1) AKM is highly reliable and has more kick back/ recoil
2) M16/M 4 is highly accurate

With this bending jig you can bend your receivers perfect every time with the rails pre-installed, this is the best bending jig on the market for bending ak receiver flats, will not work with the thicker yugo flats

The only problem with AR-15, M16 and M4 and their reliability (that was greatly improved) is as far as some small arms experts were explaining few years ago, is that gases are not directed to the piston which then transfers energy on bolt, but is directed directly on bolt which can in the end have impact on reliability. This problem was allready solved, look at HK416 it is in general view an M4/M16 with added piston and some other smaller improvements.

IRCC US Army might pursue similiar solution for their upgrade program of M4's, while USMC might end with adopting M27 IAR or something based on it as their M16A4 replacement, and M27 is basically HK416 with some changes to meet USMC demands for IAR.

Some people were speculating that M27 IAR might be a back door to adopt M16A4 replacement.

What you mentioned is a problem indeed, but that is not the only problem. It's about tolerances. Most western guns are made tight fitting which simply destroys the reliability. Listen to the interview of Mikhail Kalashnikov. He explains it very well.

Okay, in comparison to other rifles; not just bullpups:

Steyr AUG. Ask Australian and NZ troops who've used it on Ops, unlike the Austrians. In general they dislike it, from outright hate to a grudging 'it's okay'

M4, nice but too light, if you understand what I mean. Once it's had all of the bells and whistles, it's nice but not as reliable as the L85. Looks cooler.

M16, as the M4 but heavier and longer with more accuracy.

AK47, reliable. Can't hit a barn door at 300m. That's with a solid stock, with one of the folding abominations ......

AK74, same as its older brother

L1A1, nice for it's time. Much more modern kit out there

Tavor, never fired it. Not heard anything good or adverse.

H&K 416, gimme

SIG 556/2, just feels like a toy. No operational use. Doesn't have the rails for bells and whistles. Accurate, light and reliable though.

That has to be a wah ie do you really need me to explain the difference?
You can give me a link if you like. I really do not know much about British L1A1.

I know the difference between the FN-FAL and the Indian SLR, which is an FN-FAL clone, but the parts are not interchangeable.
