This is what I want. Marry the fuselage of the Mil-35 to the rotors and tail of a Kamov-50. This is what it should look like, roughly:

Nice one , but will the upgrade enhance service celling ?? because of low service celling MI-35 was not used in Kargil War as suituation turns out future war of Indian armed force will be mainly on High altitute similar to kargil operation

Mil-24/35 is a heavily armoured helicopter. It is designed to take a lot of abuse and assault. It is so heavy that it flies, not only by the rotors, but also by its wings, that provide lift. It is not a suitable helicopter for high-altitude operations, because, it provides excellent armour protection.

Just re read the statement highlighted ... there appears to be some ambiguity in the reasoning?

The Mi35s are heavy thats why they couldn't fly at high altitudes like those in kargil etc.But that doeesn't undermine its performance in a future scenario which may took place in plains of punjab or rajasthan.

@ALBY clarified.

Want high service ceiling, then reduce weight, and thereby, armour.
Want protection, then increase armour, and thereby, weight.

you need it to support your ground troops... with out Armour it will be vulnerable and with armour it will be heavier thus we can say IT was not designed for very high altitudes.... for that we are developing LCH ....
It is thus a role specific heli ....

so therefore what you said is correct .....:thumb:

Present config of MI-35 :

IAF MI-35 were updated by IAI, But now IA have this helo also Will have LCH and Rudra, Its important that Logistics should be reduced if not for the whole Platform..

=========

ATE-Upgrade..

Few Positive Points about this upgrade ..

1. The new flair pod have better visual of surroundings than IAI upgrade..

2. The Gun and Ammo can be same as LCH & Rudhra..

3. The Wing-tip pylons now can carry variety of ATGM or Rocket Pods, this was not possible before..

All of the above not only reduce logistic issues but also enhance MI-35 capability..

=========

From LCH :

Digital Camo is effective as Micropattern matrix- or pixel digitizing is required to conceal the target when the focal (recognition) region of the eye, which is only a few degrees wide, is looking directly at the target. While the macropattern overall larger part of the pattern is designed to conceal the target from the ambient (detection) portion of the view which is about 10 times wider than the focal region of our eyesight. macropatterns dramatically improve the concealment factor, even to larger objects as military vehicles, in this case both the macropatterns and micropatterns become larger in scale.

=============

Its upto Army that it chose to upgrade this helos or use them as they are in there present config or retire them..
Mi-35 is old and Indian and South African units are already the most pimped out units. Equipped with Mil Std-1553B bus, and modern fire control systems, weapons like Helina and Spike can be integrated easily. The frames are old and Apache is a perfect replacement.

wont be bad idea to go for something like NRUAV Naval Rotary Unmanned Air Vehicle at this stage, since it is old platform, if we can have unmanned version of the same it will be quite helpful at the time of war to be moved along our amror.

Project cancelled.

Army aviation lack numbers as of now and in next 5-10 years, The Idea is to juice out max out of these airframe until we get gud numbers of LCH made at home ..

AH-64 is a imported product cannot be provided in numbers that is needed in Army, Though technologically is superior ..

The frames are old and Apache is a perfect replacement..

We should upgrade and keep them in service, because even though old, numbers do help in a conflict.

The fact remains that the MI-35's are heavy hitters and they still have structurally sound airframes and engines ( proven by the lack of accidents), we should upgrade them so that we can atleast pull in another 5-10 years of good service life from them.
As Kunal pointed out earlier the south Africans have by far the most advanced upgrade package for the Hind till date and we can easily upgrade them to the same. please refer to the pdf attached for the complete upgrade package.

Planning to buy 39 additional Apaches under FMS for Army is a great decision by MOD. Can replace Mi35 and place most of the attack chopper fleet under army command.

Mi-24 with its transport capacity is irreplaceable its a gunship and nicknamed by afghans as the Devils Chariots for its combat prowess.

It will send troops crying to their mommies with its appearance on the battlefield. If we have flogged Mig-21 since 1960s can't see why we cannot milk the Hind for a few more years

Mi35 is a irreplaceable helicopter. Apache cannot take its place, it can just fill a role of many roles this versatile aircraft performs. Upgrade them, pull 10-12 yrs more out of the rugged airframe.

actually both helicopters are designed to complement each other on the battlefield, the AH-64 can destroy any armor and mobile SAMs from a safe distance , then the Akbar can swoop in to decimate any infantry based opposition(by virtue of being ridiculously more armored than an Apache the Akbar is inherently more resistant to small arms fire and even machine gun fire.The Apache's can provide cover while the Akbars land and disgorge Spec ops troops to hold key posts and positions.

In exercise, IAF MI-35 transport PARA SF jeeps under sling and carry troops too ..

It also provide fire-support, This is common for some time now, AH-64 cannot do the same MI-35 but for strike force`s need AH-64 is better suited ..
