Saudi Arabia has been buying Chinese weapons for quite some time. They have been operating conventional ballistic missiles purchased from China for over 2 decades. As for anything more than that, it would take a lot of time for Saudi to switch to Chinese or BRICS countries' weapons.

The US is a security guarantor for the Al Sauds, meaning that it's not just the toys but also everything else that the Americans guarantee. If the US were to say, pack up and leave next week, there is very little that Saudi will be able to manage. The most important thing would be for an immediate trained troop presence.

It will take at least 10-12 years before Saudi can move away realistically.

India/US/Saudi Arabia Connectivity to Europe

Finally the US has managed to wean out Saudi Arabia from the Chinese influence. The deal struck by US with Saudi Arabia to build connectivity to Europe via UAE and Saudi Arabia with India in the picture in a big way keeps China out. This happened during the G-20 meet in Delhi. The Chinese influence in Middle East was on the increase with US unable to counter the Chinese. Although, there was no chance of its success yet the Saudi Arabia was was mad at US for unwanted anti Arabia propaganda for the murder of an Arab reporter working for The Washington Post. Other legacy issues of US not advising Israel of settling with Palestinians always stood in the way. The Chinese exploited all that.

The US has settled it all at G-20 meet. The Saudi Arabia has agreed to a quadrilateral arrangement of India-UAE-Saudi Arabia-Israel with US as the principal to build a direct route to Europe with China kept out.

The monies for this connectivity about $100 billion will come from US and Saudi funds. India will be a major civil contractor to build it. All materials will be sourced from India/US/Europe.

When completed in 10 years, Indian goods will not pass thru troublesome Suez Canal but will reach Mediterranean Sea on their way to Europe.

The main beneficiaries of this arrangement ….. 1). A possibility of peace in Israel/Palestine/Arabia issue….. 2). Chinese permanently taken out of Middle East……. 3). Sourcing of goods and services to Middle East will be from India and Europe…… 4). FDI in India will increase dramatically to build factories to directly supply Europe/Middle East.

This is the opportunity, India was looking for to wean China out. The G-20 in Delhi, with most world leaders present was the catalyst for the deal.
