They will always be in smaller numbers, so will need constant air support to sustain the campaign.

The first thing in the operation the sea in which the operation being held must be secured, Once beachhead is secured the logistic will be carried out by transport ships ( This can be merchant ship hired for the job ) via a convoy system, The air support will be provided via near by Aircraft carrier and Arty will be provided via naval Vassals in the initial phases of the assault..

It looks IN will have the LPD for landing Infantry and tanks, Air support will be assured by Aircraft carriers and naval bombardment will be carried out be IN Ships, IN Destroyers and fast corvettes will insure safety for transport ships across Arabian sea and Bayof bengal or even at Indian Ocean, Air drops will be carried out by IN sea Kings and other IN Choppers..

The above assuption is based on multiple Army and IN operations in Bay of Bengal..

IN have considerable amount of resources and Ships for such operations at Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, but not far south at Indian Ocean

Foudre type vessels..

Though, Later on IN will feel need for amphibious assault ships

One reason may be cost, LPDs are cheaper compare to AAS , also IN will be operating more than one carrier so Air cover will be provided by AC/CV..

France ended the Foudre line 15 years ago. The request was for Mistral...

French naval shipbuilder DCNS said on Thursday it expected to receive a final answer from Russia soon on buying a Mistral-class helicopter carrier... The executive also said that India was displaying interest as well in buying a Mistral-class warship.

That news is old not after the the RFI issued..

IN interested in LPD and Mistral is not a LPD..

We should have designed our Aircraft Carriers to be Amphibious assaults hips like the America Class. We could have had 2 at the price off one or may be a little more on the price bit!

Do you have any info of India expressing interest anywhere else? LPD = landing platform dock.. Mistral has a landing platform and a well dock and India is looking at it. It is a candidate for this tender, probably the only serious one.
