The Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested two retired Army personnel for their alleged links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Additional Director General of Police (CID) ID Bhandari said both retired officers supplied vital information on Army deployment to the ISI and were regularly paid through the hawala network.
Bhagwan Dass, a non-commissioned Army officer hailing from Rajiayna near Dharmshala in Kangra district, was arrested two days back, Bhandari told reporters.
A retired honorary captain, Ganshayam Guleria, a native of Kangra district who currently lives in the Chandimandir cantonment area near Chandigarh, was arrested on Sunday. He retired from the Army's postal services last month.
Dass frequented the Army's Yol Camp, where he interacted with serving officers in a bid to extract sensitive information about Army establishments and operations in the northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir. The DIG said Dass had been passing on the information over the telephone.
In the past few months, Dass provided vital information on the Army's position, planning and operations in Kashmir and elsewhere as well as the movement of top generals.
The police also arrested one Amrik Singh Gulati, a resident of Mandi, who allegedly disbursed payments to all ISI handlers after getting money through hawala channels.
"Gulati is suspected to be a hawala agent. In the past three to four months, Gulati disbursed over Rs 1 crore to at least seven different accounts, three of them in Himachal," said Bhandari.
