There were 50 vehicles in the convoy including 20 busses plus other trucks and SUVs. Each bus/truck had 35 to 40 constables. The suicide was mounted to beat the guards along the route. The SUV, which was used by the suicide bomber, was laden with explosives. It rammed the targeted bus. The blast took place on Srinagar-Jammu national Highway. The traffic on this highway was resumed on 13 Feb after 7 days of closure due to heavy snowfall.

Dozens of vehicles have been hit in the attack. The convoy had 800 CRPF jawans moving in soft skinned vehicles with no armored cover, just trucks and SUVs moving as a soft target. This could have been much worse.

EDIT : It was 2500 CRPF jawans in one convoy.

Saudi prince is in Pakistan. He'll be visiting India in a couple of days. This has the potential to escalate into a major diplomatic standoff. India should start pushing for escalation right away and snub the delegation. India didn't get involved in the Yemen war with due concern to Arab sensibilities. Saudi official yesterday told Indian diplomats that they are ready to set up talks between Taliban leaders and Indian officials if India so desires.

Every time a delegation from US, Saudi or Turkey comes on an India-Pakistan tour, they try to normalize Pakistan's behavior and offer underhanded "help" to India. They are the ones who are providing the funding, weapons and ideology for it. Pakistan is only providing the cannon fodder. Even Erdogan, when he had visited India, had said that he is willing to mediate between India and Pakistan.
