There's a reason for the Nazis being condescending to the point of insulting le Francais as in this cartoon. Le Francais were among the first to abolish slavery , implement Lacite ( total separation of the State & Church ) & offered citizenship to the blacks for le Francais saw citizenship in different terms linked to language & culture as opposed to ze Germans who saw citizenship purely in terms of ethnicity .
