Yes an all out effort is required now using any means available including use of air borne assets to tackle these guys. They are surviving just because they have been allowed to. If the govt sends in the armed forces with clear mandate to either capture or kill and once the casualties start for the maoists they will surrender.

Just look how scared they were when the govt announced the new operation against them. They called truce and offered talks. Once the govts foot went off the pedal, they are now belligerent.

Introduce a motion in the parliament declaring them anti national and start going after them. Get the APCs in and also attack helos. Finish this menace once and for all, they have long since abandoned the reason for which it was formed.

RT,
COIN is long drawn operation(i wont call it war)and sure there will be causalities. But until the state govts and center will be on the same page COIN can never be successful. As we have seen in AP,punjab,Assam, nagaland,J&K.Its the early stages of operation green hunt.It will take its own sweet time in catch up with maoist. What we are seein is the huge corridor from nepal to AP which are to be covered to plug in the loopholes.Another thing is Pakistan's example of coin is never advisable in india.I woud not call that pakistan even doing COIN.Its just blasting away villages and displacing the whole population.Pakistan example of COIN will give temporarily relief but not long enduring results like assam, punjab,AP and Jand K.Present operation green hunt will be as tough as what operation rhino.

Absolutely idiots, bloody amateurs

Intelligence FAIL, Surroundings awareness FAIL, Logistics FAIL

Ambush occurred at 6 am in the morning and continued till 11:30 am, No back up, No air support. Are our soldiers sent on Suicide mission like TTP ?

70 men lost, whoa..... let me breathe ..SHAME AND SORROW... What is PC and brigade doing? Why media is not making it headlines to pressurize the government ?

Even Pakistan's resolve and strategy to clear Taliban is thousand times better than our to flush out Naxals.

At the least, we should keep UAV's in the air during COIN operations coz our intelligence definitely sucks. Why are we building and purchasing Dhruvs and Hinds, to showoff or to decorate our Indian military Pictures thread?

Can anyone explain why we shouldn't be called a Banana Republic ?

RIP to the fallen..... And may their fall wake up delhi babus.=============

Something must have gone drastically wrong: Chidambaram

PTI Share · print · T+**·** T-

Home Minister P. Chidambaram said something must have gone “drastically” wrong in Chhattisgarh where a CRPF patrol during Operation Green Hunt came under naxal attack.
“The casualty is very high and I am deeply shocked at the loss of lives. This shows the savage nature of CPI(Maoist) and their brutality and the savagery they are capable of.
Senior officials will be reaching there shortly,” he said.
“The Government of Chattisgarh and CRPF together had planned this operation. They had mobilised both the state forces and the CRPF but something has gone drastically wrong. They seem to have walked into a trap set by naxalites,” he said.
Chidamabaram said he was very “sorry” for those who lost their lives in the attack.
In one of the biggest setbacks to ‘Operation Green Hunt’, at least 40 CRPF personnel, including a Deputy Commandant, were killed when Naxals ambushed them in the Mukrana forests of the Dantewada district in Chattisgarh today morning.

That can also be the point.may be this is conspiracy theory but whenever congress is in power in particular state Maoist movement suddenly dies out and it flares up when non.congress govt comes to power.AP and maharastra and jharkhand are prime example.

Why media is not making it headlines to pressurize the government ?
It is such a shame, in our country the way media behaves. They are bloody more interested in highlighting a carp on sania-shoaib which is all about intrusion into peoples personal lives but when it comes to pressing issues they keep turning a blind eye.

At least help build a public opinion against these naxals, even today most of the Indians have nothing against these terrorists and I wont be surprised if that a vast majority don’t see them as any sort of threat, which is today the biggest threat that our nation faces, ask people which is the biggest threat and they will say Pakistani interference in J&K, and most of them will have no clues as to what is happening in north east as well.

Last year when the inflation was hitting double digit they were all up in arms but today when the same is happening they just don’t want to talk about it, just how misplaced can be our priorities?

But then some crap about lives of certain people which make no difference to the daily life of people is more important to be covered.

Poor leadership shows, P Chidambaram to West Bengal CM

6 Apr 2010, 0706 hrs IST,ET Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Centre has blamed lack of leadership and poor management of the law and order apparatus in West Bengal for the Maoist mayhem
in Lalgarh.

Home minister P Chidambaram is learnt to have conveyed the Centre’s dismay over the state government’s apathy to its leadership during his two day visit to the state. What has appaled the minister is the casual approach to managing security in troubled areas of the state. Sources said the minister expressed his displeasure over the deployment of security personnel in the state. “The three Naxal-affected districts — West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia — require 58 police stations. But just 28 are functional,” said an official.

What was more galling is that half of these 28 police stations in the most trouble prone areas. Not only that, the average strength of these 28 police stations is 25 people, which is barely one third of the ideal deployment.

The lack of leadership for the forces was most glaring as platoons in the troubled areas are commandeered by hawaldars. The minister was also told by the people of Lalgarh that district magistrate and SP rarely visit the area.

The minister is said to have raised the lack of motivation among the state police on account of the failure of the state government to extend any incentive for those fighting Naxals.

“The forces in states like Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are a highly motivated lot compared to their counterparts in West Bengal,” said an official. Incidentally, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has not visited Lalgarh since November 2008.

U need crack troops under every SP in the district. The SP and the collector must have power to take decisions to take on the spot.We have to build good infra where none is present in Chattisgarh or Jharkhand. There must be good road connectivity. The local bastard of a politician must be thoroughly bypassed. The avg policeman has a paunchy stomach.can't stay on the field for more than an hour and uses a .303 rifle. The avg naxal uses an automatic rifle,IEDs and they have some local support. The police and people are pawns in this game

Another gunbattle is going on in same area

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/naxals-ambush-crpf-team-65-killed/112766-3.html?from=tn

A gunbattle is going on at Jagargunda in Chintalnar block of Dantewada district between hundreds of armed Naxals and about 100 CRPF personnel.

"We are trying to send reinforcement forces to the spot. The forces are facing difficulty as the area has been blocked by the Naxals. Naxals had built bunkers on the hill top and CRPF personnel were not aware of the bunkers. The attack was preplanned. They first attacked the CRPF mobile van and followed it up by firing on the team," said Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Vishwa Ranjan.

The CRPF team was going to Sukma where a gunbattle had been taking place between security forces and Naxals since Monday evening when it was attacked.

There is no doubt in what PC is saying is correct, back in days when WB first confronted these naxals there was an excellent ground intelligence, well stocked police stations, and a well coordinated on ground operation which helped take on, marginalize and liquidate the naxals to quite a great extent which had really shown well on part of the state police but today these buffoons are absolutely clueless, because there is no political will.

I still have full faith in PC though this outrageous act has got me on my nerves, but the fact also is that today mamta benerjee, a key ally of the UPA-II, aligning with these naxals just to maximize her political gains is no myth and if the WB govt were to go against them in full force would bring about a backlash from the public and from those so-called intellectuals as was witnessed in the singur and nandigram incidents which can cripple their poll prospects in the forth coming state elections.

Just as PC has the guts on taking on the WB govt, which he is doing rightly, so he should have the guts to call off the bluff of mamta benerjee as well, but then that is something PC will never dare do because that will upset the poll prospects of congress in WB, which could very well mean an end to his political career, if a certain madam were to get enraged.

PC can talk about advani, and his short comings but when it comes to his predecessor shivraj patil he is dumb founded, that is how difficult the reality of life is. May be it is time for PC to show the complete picture, than make statements intended to score political points, but is he really that gutsy and that honest to the public of India is the bigger question.

Just how much more will our country suffer from the politics that gets played all the time?

Yeah, those CRPF men are battling for their survival. Time for strategic retreat before we loose more men. Send armed choppers, get our men out of there before they are massacred with impunity. We need to get out of our Pakistan paranoia and introspect within our boundaries. There could be whole naxal battalion in fortified positions firing downhill on CRPF.

CRPF need more equipments like MPVs, APCs and air cover. At least give them UAVs for aerial surveillance.

I wish they target the elite instead, and instead of 73 police, 3 millionaires are killed. Then the state will wake the fuck up and do something about it. 26/11 was a more effective attack which draw a much different response from the state and the international community not because of the number of people that died (lot more people die in Kashmir/NE each year), but that the elite were the target.

SB,
I dont think indian govt. ever used or will dare to gunships or heavy artillery firepower on its own people. Indian govt rely on COIN even at the cost of mounting armed force casualties.
Maoists are not our own people, this is simply a flawed logic. Own people do not kill citizens of the same country. While terrorists groups like ULFA, NSCN (both factions), DHD(both factions) were banned and Army was used against those, why not now?

Indian Army, and if needed Indian Air Force are the only solutions left to dig up those rats from ratholes and kill them.
And oh yes! Those maoists sympathizers should be declared anti national and thrown in jails to rot for years to come.

R.I.P to all those soldiers.

If you wan to win against naxals eleminate the thakur .mahajan and tiwari at the local level.this may look racist but thats the fact.Get them more medical facilities.Give the local mahua tenders to the tribal co-operative societies.Give the younger ones opprotunities in their own states .Cut the recruitment grounds for naxals
