Unlikely that KPS Gill would have made a difference.
KPS Gill was instrumental in solving Punjab insurgency in the 80s when the media glare was negligible. Also, the insurgency was limited to just 1 state.

The LWE from the late 90s to the present day is a different ballgame. Here we have increased media glare, foreign and domestic NGOs, various political parties are in the picture in an insurgency spanning multiple states. Also, backup is provided by professors, intellectuals,lawyers, judges, Government officials, OFB officials in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Various political parties have used Naxals to further their political ambitions in different states.

However, if anyone can attempt and succeed to solve the Naxal menace it is Modi and Shah. However, there is a lack of political will on their part. It would require a humongous effort to do so, as it is will be not only a multi state operations, but also cleansing our universities from their OGWs.

Im actually surprised by everyone expectations here.

Barring the special forces and tac units trained by NSG and Army a lot of people will be caught off guard by the training and motivation of the regular soldier in crpf and other such units.

Having seen them first hand they are nothing like what people are expecting here.

One thing I observed in chattisgarh, the forest cover is sparse especially this time of the year,.. Its not like the low visibility, dense, evergreen forests in the the south.. like the western ghats.. fighting these naxals would have been more miserable in that case..

Army is overstreched. It is already wanting to pull-out from existing CI duties with RR and AR and concentrate on LOC and LAC.

The solution lies in the CAPFs and SRPFs with retired army officers having sufficient CI experience, leading the operations. Co-ordination with IAF and NTRO for areal reconnaisance and other electronics intelligence.
