LARPers seriously.

not even foliage in their helmets like the yanks- that’s what those loops on their ACHs are for- to break up their silhouette, basic infantry stuff that the guys from the 1980s would’ve followed.

all professionalism left this army a long time ago.

I think the reason our weapons and rifle designs are in such a shitshow is because we have no ORSA (Operations Research and Strategic Analysis). We need to record our war experience and operations better. Most of what we know is from Histories (which use battle reports and records) and officer accounts.

The fact of the matter is that 5.56 isnas round utterly failed in its duty, in compared to a 7.62 AK round. Many injured terrorists managed to escape encounters as a result of the weakness of the bullet.

Not my word, But Maj Gen GD bakshi who was both a sextor commander and a force commander in the most violent years in J and K, and whose sector who scored the most kills in his tenure

for a gun design to be evolve locally, it has to be subject to real world testing. for militaries there is no better real world testing than a war. in other words, military equipment evolve faster when there are constant wars, because of the feedback loop.

if one is relying on 30-40 year old lessons, one would get 30-40 year old designs.

India has had a whole decade in the 90s to design an effective COIN rifle for the early 2000s. But it didn’t. India similarly has numerous learning points in J and K even in 2023 to analyze operations and to determine its nature and what went wrong in it.

as they say hindsight is always twenty twenty.

from an equipment point of view, moving from SLR to AK/vz happened during that period for COIN, which is a big deal in itself. the pace and intensity of 90's was far higher than what's happening now a days, those years were spent adapting tactics of regular military to counter insurgency. TAR-21 started getting inducted in 2005.

this is to say, developing small arms is not India's forte even today. INSAS served it's purpose for the day, and that's about it.

on a side note, unable to find pics of zitara bullpup, do post it here if you find one.
