We made a 3 billion dollar deal for a mere 31 drones, high tech they may be. But to put it into context, 2 billion is enough to modernize and standardize the entire infantry. Excuses of budget should never be mentioned again. Nor should the excuse that Army has little Capex while other services have more. Any serious country would have prioritized infantry modernization and provided that little extra Capex per year for infantry modernization. The army itself should have made a 400 million dollar a year program over 5 years to do it.

Infantry getting the least attention, I feel sad

Tbh,a good combat rig would be a nice plate carrier (macro ones, the micro ones are for Gucci and high speed SOF operators), IFAK kit, Utility pouches, a dump pouch and a battle belt. And an hydration/assault pack, but that's entirely optional, at least the base ones should be standard among the infantry.

I saw a Bn of Garhwal rifles with some plate carriers during Dharma Guardian. But there's just 3 mag pouches and not battle belt.

Heck it's not even that costly to get decent plate carriers but I still see we're still trying to build a cumbersome body armour

This is a standard 14-15" laptop bag design. Unless they have used some high-grade fiber which increases strength nothing is military grade in this.
"Military grade" doesnt mean good quality

It means the lowest possible quality that wont fail catastrophically :pound:.

Military contracts arent won by good quality, they are won by the lowest bidder.

How is the manufacture of AK-203 rifle is going on. Has the factory delivered any to the Army and has the Army accepted them?

The Russians today have twin threats; the Ukraine war and internal civil war by the Wagner Group. The Russians will sort that out but it could affect the delivery of Ak-203 parts which come from Russia. ……. Indian Army has been waiting for the new rifle for a long time.

Nobody knows , literally AK 203 has just vanished into thin air .
When ever almighty wishes Indian army will get a new rifle , purchasing a new standard issue rifle for Indian army requires divine intervention.its beyond human capabilities.

Wonderful article by a US officer on Kargil. Talks about initial Indian failures in Tololing and Tiger Hill, and how we managed to overcome them. Very accurate with what I’ve read nd heard.

Some key takeaways:
1. Our failures in Tololing and Tiger Hill were attributed to the following:
•the lack of arty support (infantry used to hike up with ZERO preceding arty support) and couldn’t see the enemy, this was problematic because the enemy was at dominating posts where they could infilict 10 kills for every one of their loss.
•The underestimating of the enemy. It was presumed that there were just 10 men on point 5140 and Tololing top. This turned out to be fatally wrong. As a result, 1 Naga and 18 grenadiers could achieve limited success, and this success didn’t hold for long as the attacking officers (Maj Rajesh Adhikhari) was killed in enemy positions. Similarly in Tiger Hill, our infantry was poorly equipped and a single battalion just wasn’t enough to attack the enemy (a company + strong) on tiger hill. 8 Sikh suffered heavy losses in these initial attacks.
• The lack of equipment! Two of the three battalions (8 Sikh and 1 Naga) were in the midst of COIN tenures when Kargil broke out. They were, hence, lightly equipped as they were operating on lands which are far friendlier environmentally than the barren cold mountains of Kargil. Hence, they suffered heavily in the cold and were physically exhausted more.
2. This war demonstrates the improtanfe of combined arms warfare. When infantry when began using tactical surprises and surprising Pakistani posts, they usually decimated he whole posts with little to zero casualties to themselves. However, where this was not possible, artillery played a major part. Bofors were so powerful that infantry began using them in their own sections. Tiger Hill, where 18 grenadiers launched a 2 company+ Ghatak platoon multidirectional attack, and 8 Sikhs platoon of 52 men took the western half, was also an excellent example of such. Artillery hammered the posts and infantry carried the day.
3. The experiences in Kargil were very similar to that of the US in Afghanistan in 2001, but the US had a far superior edge in technology against its foe. In operation Anaconda, Al qaueda fighters managed to repulse a US-Afghan assault. It took 17 hard days, lots of combined arms warfare, millions of tactical adjustments, and 8 brave soldiers lives to carry the enemy position. In the end, hundreds of Al qaeda fighters were claimed killed, but the bodies of 23 were recoverd
