I disagree. We need to stabilize the production line and ensure the viability of suppliers. It is all about building that military industrial complex and sustaining it. Dump all the old foreign fighters. MK1A can basically do the job of the upgraded Mirage 2000, Darin 3 Jags and upgraded MiG-29s well. It means no longer depending on foreign vendors for spares and keeping the planes flying. Let Mk2 evolve while we build up Mk1A in numbers and solidify our MIC base. That's more important than waiting to get the latest uber fantasy brochure specs
I still don't understand how people can even consider jaguars as jets in 2024, it's better to replace them completely with combat drones.
With multirole aircrafts already in the fleet why do we even need jaguars

Apart from its survivability coz of 2 engines it doesn't have any big advantage over Tejas mk1a..
Jaguars are available Right Now

They are fully operational

At a time when we are short of squadron
We cannot retire Jaguars

Mk1A planes are coming very slowly

Starting with just 2 ,4 and then 8 per year

Cheaper to operate, larger in number, deep strike role once air superiority is established, etc etc. Jaguars are very much relevant in IAF inventory for another decade. That role will only be taken by MWF, if it meets the criteria. LCA MK1A can't replace Jaguars, it just doesn't have that fast speed maneuvering capabilities and it'll be a sitting duck in ground operations.

Lca Tejas can fly supersonic at all altitudes..
Tejas is also munueverable aircraft.. with fly by wire systems it can fly close to ground but not that much compared jaguar most important delta wings can return even if significantly they are hit.
Again there max thrust is just 65kn and dry 45kn
Now they even say it's thrust is reduced alot because of aging it very old aircraft older than mirages mig29s. The dry thrust of mirage is 65kn with weight of 7.5tons.
It does carry alot of fuel even more than mirage 2000.
4200liters infact during kargil strike jaguar were not choosen because they did not enough thrust to fly there with enought speed securing itself... The mirage pilot told at war cry who bombed pakis..
It is of no use of its engine are not upto mark
It's empty weight is 7 tons 3.5 tons fuel (mtow of 15.5 tons)
No way with less than 65kn thrust we will send this aircraft for deep strike most of our conflict is in high altitude were jaguar seriously sucks.. although French did send some jaguars for free some jaguars will have 45/65kn retained.
Tejas lacks fuel it's just 2.6 tons compared to 3.5 tons of jaguar, although Tejas with 3 ext. fuel tanks (2x1200+800litres, 2.65ton) can still carry 2x500kg bombs or with 2 fuel tanks can carry 3x500kg bombs..
& Dual engine, higher survivability..
Tejas can replace jaguar it does have some small shortcomings but it more beneficial to replace it with Tejas.. jaguar is of not much use today..

What we learned from Ukraine war that flying jet close to ground is a death sentence.
Any random guy with stinger can take them out,
This was the reason everyone except india retired them long time ago.
Furthermore engines of Jaguar can't be upgraded.

Yes but still both sides used su25 descently in combat.. we can neither say that this role will be fulfilled with attack helicopters they are even more vulnerable to stingers.. the role of bombing is always going to be there but with standoff weapons like we have also made SAAW . that's what I'm talking that this aspect has evolved abit.. this wing bombs neither have IR signature...
We cannot expect 100% safety in combat. There are going to be losses even the Americans lost f117 nighthawk by a old Sam...

We're retaining Jaguars only coz we've modernised few of them & we modernised a few of them was coz IAF was preparing for a contingency in case the MMRCA was delayed which was supposed to cater to the DPSA role which has since undergone a lot of revisions since the time the Jaguars were first commissioned in the IAF to undertake that role .

In the event the IAF was right & we're retaining a few of them now up until 2035-40 T/L only coz we're retiring a lot of FAs as of the present .

Otherwise without a TF upgrade , they're as obsolete as the Mirage III & V PAF flies & even they've retired most of them if not all of them .

In other AFs the DPSA role is undertaken by bombers / stealth bombers , BMs / CMs & now increasingly thru UCAVs. However with the vast improvement in AD systems it'd be suicidal to let the Jaguars undertake this role EVEN if the air space & ground below has been sufficiently sanitized .

This leaves the Jaguars primarily to undertake CAS roles. This can be undertaken by the Mk-1a too . In conclusion the Jaguars are obsolete & it's a drain maintaining them but we're up against a country which is fighting bigger problems of which obsolescence is only one small issue it's confronted with. That's the only reason the Jaguars are still somewhat relevant in the western sector.

Obviously it'll be suicidal to send Jags with pak ADs fully functional, IAF will only use them after other jets have done their job. As you said in CAS role it is the best and most economical option available to IAF, even better than MK1, it's ability to fly low undetected makes it the primary choice.

Frankly with the proliferation & advances in VSHORADS I'm not sure it's a good fit for CAS too unless we're talking stand off capabilities here. OTOH it'd make a good command centre for drones & stand off munitions in a CAS role . Just my 2 cents.

800lt.. i doubt they're 970kg
I have heard that for supersonic flight middle ext. Tank is of 725kg and 1st pylon on both sides carry 1100litres because this 2x1200 litres & 800litres were causing more drag and and were limiting the speeds..
And I dont know much about the 2nd pylon fuel tanks of both sides fuel capacity maybe it could be 975litres as u said..
Correct me if anyone knows about it

Jaguars are also used for Maritime strike. They have harpoons iirc. Lca still lacks an anti-ship missile plus double engine of jaguars provide reliability over sea.
