IAF may buy 300 indigenous basic trainers, fighters
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has told the government that “it is committed” to buying nearly 300 indigenously made fighters and basic trainers from the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a senior defence ministry official said on condition of anonymity. The deal will likely cost the government several billion dollars. IAF’s commitment , however, comes with a rider: designing, manufacturing and delivery will have to be within a prescribed deadline from the time the deal is inked, this person added. “Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and the HAL must get their act together,” the official said. ADA works under the Department of Defence Research and development of the ministry of defence and is tasked with overseeing India’s LCA (light combat aircraft) programme. IAF has told the government that it is “committed to buying” another 10 Squadrons of Tejas Mark-II (each squadron has 16-18 fighters) and 36 Advance Medium Combat (AMCA) fighters. Besides the fighters, IAF has also told the government that it will buy newly made trainer aircraft HTTP-40 as well. The decision to commit to buying indigenous fighters is the first major decision taken by Air Marshal RK Singh Bhadauria who took over as the Chief of Air Staff recently. IAF has already bought 40 fighters of the initial version of Tejas. “The final contract for the purchase of 83 indigenously made Tejas Mark-1 fighters will be signed by the end of the current financial. Negotiations between the IAF and HAL is in the final stages,” a second official in the ministry of defence said. After several time over-run, the HAL has delivered about a dozen aircraft and fallen behind the scheduled yearly production target. The IAF was forced to raise the first squadron of Tejas fighters with just three in 2016. The designing for the AMCA, which will have stealth capabilities, and advanced radar and weapon packages, is in the nascent stage and will be India’s own next-generation fighter aircraft. The design of the Tejas Mark-II is in a very advanced stage and is likely to frozen yet soon,” the second official said. “The Indian private defence manufacturing sector should also try to exploit this opportunity along with the Defence Public Sector Units.” IAF needs a minimum of 42 fighter squadrons to put up a credible deterrence along two borders simultaneously. It, currently has only 30 fighter squadrons. The decision to go with indigenously made fighters is a major leap of faith for IAF which has been accused in the past of preferring foreign-made fighters to indigenous technology. “Production facilities of LCA, Tejas are being upgraded. As and when orders firmed up more effort will be made to ramp-up production,” a HAL spokesperson reacting to the rider of IAF

IAF to sign contract this fiscal to procure 83 LCAs

Fifth-generation AMCA expected to make first flight in 2032

The Light Combat Aircraft Tejas (LCA) Mark-1A and Mark-2 and 114 new fighter jets to be procured will be the mainstay of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the next decade as other jets are phased out, and before the indigenous fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is ready, IAF sources said.

The IAF is looking at speeding up the production of the LCA by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

“We are taking delivery of the last four aircraft in the Initial Operational Configuration (IOC). We are expecting to receive 5-6 LCAs in the Final Operational Configuration (FOC) by March this financial year,” a senior IAF source said. “The contract for 83 LCA Mark-1A will be signed this financial year.” the source added.

The AMCA, being designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) with the IAF’s support, is expected to make the first flight in 2032.

Once considered a step child of IAF is now getting dearer and dearer to IAF. With coming of uttam , new EW , network centric capabilities, censor fusion etc, Tejas shall be an @$$ kicker. Even porky F16 will be no match to Tejal.
what i like most about lca is that we have full control of platform.
we wont have to beg for mid life upgrade like we are currently doing with russia.
we can do what ever we can do with this bird.
it gives our scientists understanding of new platform, technology and can implement it in upcoming platforms like amca. lca mk2 is live example.

I don't think there's concept of heaven in hinduism. He's probably taken rebirth and will fly amca in 2040s.
Your are way off topic but there is infact called Vaikunth or 'param pad'

Whole point of swarg or vaikunth is to break free from circle of rebirths & be one with the supreme but you asking these questions makes me wonder are you really indian
Well that's because we are not force-fed our scriptures from birth.
Which is both a good and bad thing.

Thanks for the short but useful explanation though, I didn't know that very well either.
You learn something new on this forum everyday, which is not something you can say for napakdev or Randia

Well, so technically, if the Def.Min. hasn't reached Nirvana yet, then obviously he'll rebirth, and most probably where ever his tendencies guide him to. So if his heart was really into HAL manufactured planes, then
He's probably taken rebirth and will fly amca in 2040s.

Not at all. Tejas Mk2 would be superior to F-16 & M2K by far in all projected specs and avionics.
M2k is outdated even with the upgrade it has . F 16 on the other hand is far more superior in terms of avionics and payload with its latest avionics package.

While Tejas mk2 is still in pipeline.
