Im sorry if this brings another off topic here (is tejas related after all)

While i was following the Tejas Mk.1A offer to the Argentine air force (FAA) with the option of replacing components (50 i think). Since mid-late 2021 they announced that the formal offer was going to be presented at the end of said year. But recently the Chief of the Air Force stated that to get a better evaluation of the options it was required to "evaluate in situ" (aka, an evaluation by a commission of all aircraft offered).

This actually makes me wonder if the Tejas still stands as an option (if said offer was given) and if an Argentine commission its gonna be visiting India soon. Still a bit skeptical tho...
Reading a couple of articles and it does look like the Chinese will walk away with the deal- & they have offered a whole lot more- 5G, nuclear power, JF-17, 8x8 armoured vehicles..

The Government of Argentina is planning to send a military team to China in March to broker the purchase of combat aircraft, for which over US $ 600 million have been allocated as per the 2022 Budget bill, it was reported.

Argentina is said to be considering five offers, with China's JF-17 Thunder-Block III topping the list following President Alberto Fernández's recent meeting in Beijing with Xi Jinping, Infobae said. The South American country was planning to purchase some 12 units of that model, the newspaper also said.

Buenos Aires' ambassador to Beijing, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, has already held meetings with the Chin National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC), to move on with the negotiations, the report added.

China offered Argentina tanks and planes that its Armed Forces no longer use.

Argentina's Defense Ministry said the purchase of South Korean-built fighter aircraft was also under consideration. (Source: Infobae)

From quora:

.. so it's not an absolute requirement but a nice to have in the fighter pilot's tool kit- offering agility at a low aerodynamic cost.

Gripen's control surfaces during all phases of flight:

Gripens canards in action:

.. & during landing:

+ deflection is LEU, - is LED

For a fairly comprehensive analysis please refer here, it is quite something:

For a better ITR the desirable characteristic is low wing loading ( = aircraft mass / wing area) and high thrust-to-weight ratio.
My takeaway
Tejas is a tail less design so the benefits of canards will be huge in pitch control .
Landing distance won't be as short as gripen.
Overall performance will boost as those extreme angular movement provided by gripen are not utilised in aerial combat except a few manuvers , rest it will be equally capable .

All MK1A won't be delivered before end-2028 / mid-2029.

After that would take a year to modify production line for MK2 which is a totally new aircraft

When MK2 production begins in 2029 or 2030... for the first two years the numbers produced would be in single digits

Means full scale production not possible before 2031/32

(👆 Not accounting delays)

A foreign fighter is very much required considering the retirement of 8-10 squadrons by 2035.
puny production capacity delays everything:dude:.

just see chinks they are churning the fighter jets like hot pancakes

To be more clear about this whole thing , before mk1a delivery , we will get trainer delivery , plus the production line for mk2 can be expanded in existing infra too

btw why aren't we upgrading sukhois with indegenious ew suites (not podded) and uttam aesa ,becoz mrfa seems a distant dream until we order additional rafales that will still not come by 2027
There were some negotiations happening with russians. I read somewhere that russians were trying to push their new engines and their AESA radars for providing us with support for upgrade, hence complex negotiations were going on.

chinese have done gr8 work with thier sukhoi , su 30mki can be made a very capable plane but it would need a qwip based irst ,aesa , upgraded digital that can passively provide a firing solution with interferometry tech , and net centric capabilities using upgraded datalinks and cockpit and sensor fusion ,and all of these are implemented in f15ex
