Sorry I mean Burkes. Kolkotas will hopefully carry Varunastra and Takshak.

BTW What torpedos will Kolkata carry ?

The Kolkata class ships were initialy meant to carry the Varunastra torpedo, but the weapon system is delayed because of its "sub optimal performance in high seas."

So now it would carry either the Type 53-65 torpedo or the SET-65E torpedo, the latter seems to be better than the former. :)

The above photo is of SET-65 taken somewhere in Ukraine.

After dedicating aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to induct country's largest indigenously built warship INS Kolkata in Mumbai in the next few weeks.
The Prime Minister has already been invited to induct the largest indigenously built warship, which is constructed by the Mazagon Dockyards Limited and has been designed by Navy's design bureau, defence officials said here.
The 6,800 tonne warship, which is over three years behind schedule, is a technology demonstrator and will showcase a giant leap in shipbuilding technology in the country, they said.
INS Kolkata will be a part of the Kolkata Class destroyers of the Indian Navy which will include follow-on ships by the name of INS Kochin and INS Chennai respectively.
The keel of the warship was laid down in September 2003 and the ship was launched in 2006.
Its original commissioning was planned in 2010 but due to several project delays, it will now happen in 2014.
The ship had also suffered a mishap during the trial phase when a Navy officer lost his life during an incident in the fire fighting equipment of the vessel.
As part of her pre-commissioning weapon trials at sea, INS Kolkata test fired a BrahMos missile off Karwar's coast earlier this month.

I see only 16+16 VLS for Air Defense. That's pretty low for a ship that will provide Area Defense for a Carrier Battle Group. It even carries less missiles than Delhi class.

And some people in DRDO wanted us to believe that it was better AWD than Hobart class :pound:

Modern, well armed, much needed.

Still need to work on the aesthetics on future ships. Not saying the Kolkata is ugly.

Future designs to cut RCS and improve stealth should also incorporate high tech and sleek design elements. Starting with the integrated mast and flush deck. The next genegrstion Indian DDG should b a sight to behold. A showpiece with the guts to boot.

Perhaps professional design house can be engaged to give finishing touches. Others do it. What's a few million for a fantastic design when you're spending billions on a class of ship.

Awesome. The buries also have complement of 323 people. Type 45 are even more woefully under armed.
The 323 figure is for Flight IIA. Flight III will definately see crew reduction.

The Type 45 will get their part of offensie weapons. 8 Harpoons + 12 cells of Mk 41 VLS. Or they might even spend more money and make it 64 cells of A70 VLS in total.
In Both cases they will exceed Kolkata's capabilities.

They will or might. Right now there are no immidiate plans. Type 45 does not have Torpedo tubes either.
