lowest bidder is French Rafale..commercial negotiations to begin soon, will take almost 5-6 months to ink deal. THE FRENCH FIGHTER HAS EMERGED SOME $5 MILLION PER AIRCRAFT CHEAPER THAN THE EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON

Subrahmanyam Swami said 2 months back that deal for Rafale is already finalised with the help corrupt Maino madam. :D

Anyway, Good for us. Typhoon may be little better but since UAE & KSA are going to operate Typhoon. So, Pak will get some hand on it. We will have exclusive Rafale + Giftpack if it will be final?? :p

Dassault Rafale wins the MMRCA deal beating Eurofighter Typhoon
Jan 31, 2012, 05.31PM IST TNN

The Dassault Rafale has won the long-awaited MMRCA deal beating the Eurofighter Typhoon.
NEW DELHI: France's Dassault Rafale wins the $10.4 billion medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) deal. Its bid was said to be 'significantly' lower than the other fighter -- the Eurofighter Typhoon -- designed by a consortium of three companies EADS, Alenia Aeronautica and BAE Systems.

The MMRCA is India's biggest single defence deal which will see India purchasing 126 fighters planes for the Indian Air Force.

Um speaking truly, I always voted for Typhoon, but still Rafael is not behind in any case. So I respect this decision and it is a great choice. As Typhoon might take some more extra time than Rafael.

There was a news in 2009 April..

Dassault Rafale Fails to Meet Indian Air Force MRCA Minimum Performance Requirements

2009-04-16 The French Rafale fighter has been knocked off a $ 10 billion contract to provide 126 combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force. The French fighter, which was one of the six contenders for the race, was officially rejected by the Defence Ministry for failing to meet qualitative requirements for the contract.

The news comes as a bit of a shock as the Indian Air Force has been maintaining that all six contenders – the American F 18 and F 16, the Eurofighter Typhoon, Russian MiG 35, Swedish Gripen NG and the French fighter – had met the technical requirements.

However, a senior defence ministry official made is clear on Thursday that RafalE has been rejected at the technical evaluation stage for failing to meet minimum performance requirements that had been detailed in the tender document. The flight trials for the remaining five fighters are now expected to commence within three months, a senior MoD official said.

"They did not meet the requirements and will not proceed to the next stage. We hope to begin trials within three months with the others that have qualified," a top Defence Ministry official said.

While the French fighter was always considered an underdog in the competition, which has been described as the largest international defence contract in the world, it was been aggressively pushed by the French government. Former President Jacques Chirac and his successor Nichols Sarkozy have been talking about the fighter in all their interactions with India.

Initially, they fielded Mirage 2000-5s for MRCA competition and later they pulled it out of competition.. Reaon1- It met only minimum expectation placed by IAF on MRCA (like AESA and so others...) Reason2 - They would have sighted upgrade of existing Mirage fleet ;).. If IAF opted for Mirage upgrade and still France fielding Mirage 2000 -5s they would have ended in losing side from MRCA perspective.. Now its double damakha for them..

Rafale is a good aircraft but what I feel is, we are putting all our eggs in French buket (Scorpene, Mirage upgrade, MRCA and may be Mistral ).. End of the day we need it soon for our depleting forces... :)

Rafale is thrown out from most world tenders for not meeting requirements. Latest news about Rafale

Swiss govt says has not had cheaper Dassault offer

Mon Jan 30, 2012 4:09am EST

* Paper reports Dassault had made Swiss second, cheaper offer

* Swiss govt said in Nov would buy 22 Saab Gripen fighter jets

* Dassault has struggled to find foreign buyer for Rafale

ZURICH, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Switzerland's defence ministry has not received a second offer from aircraft maker Dassault that is cheaper than the type of fighter jet it is planning to buy, a spokeswoman said on Monday.

"No official offer has been received here until now," a spokeswoman for the defense ministry said.

Dassault offered Switzerland 18 Rafale jets for 2.7 billion Swiss francs ($2.9 billion), below what Berne is planning to spend for 22 Swedish planes, the newspaper SonntagsZeitung reported on Sunday. The newspaper did not say when the offer for the 18 jets was made.

Neutral Switzerland has wrangled for the past three years over how to replace its ageing Northrop F-5E/F Tiger fighters, purchased in 1976 and 1981, with up to 33 new aircraft.

In November, Swedish defence and aerospace group Saab won a $3.4 billion deal to replace Switzerland's fighter jet fleet with 22 JAS-39 Gripens.

The Swiss government justified its decision to go with Saab's Gripen on the basis of affordability and because it fulfilled military requirements.

Citing a letter it had seen, the SonntagsZeitung reported that Dassault, which originally offered 22 Rafales for 4 billion francs, said it was never able to optimise its offer based on Switzerland's needs.

Now the Swiss government has decided what kind of plane to buy, that has become part of an armaments programme which is voted on by parliament, the defence ministry spokeswoman said.

Although parliament could reject it, the procurement effort would then have to begin again from scratch, with all competitors able to submit fresh bids, she said.

Dassault has struggled to find a foreign buyer for the multi-role Rafale, which is billed as one of the most effective fighters in the world but also one of the most expensive.

France's defence minister said in December production of the Rafale will end if it does not land any export orders. ($1 = 0.9188 Swiss francs) (Reporting by Catherine Bosley, Editing by Mark Potter)
