Wiping out BDs is a favor for the indian sub continent and SEA. but wiping out middle east might be a favor to the entire world.

While i agree with the most of the posts, its still difficult to say if unpartitioned India would have been a failed state or not because the variable which is pakistan doesn't exist. Events will drastically change since what India's role would have been in terms of cold war scenario would be also important. Mind you afghanistan becoming a failed state had lot to do with pak colluding with US, it was nothing like today. See Afghanistan in 50's and 60's.

You analogy in itself gives you the answer when you state pakistan colluded with the US to create a failed state out of another islamic country i.e. AFG....How do you know that after partition muslim league won't have colluded with the US to create a separate and a much dangerous islamic state the way they colluded with the British to create pakistan in 1947? Mind you in 1947 things were less bloodier than it could have been during the cold war time partition, as brits were leaving and muslim league which wasn't very organized in Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan, scrambled for whatever they could (it's a different story that they still got more than what they could chew)!
