Still the same old alf31, still under power. But I suspect J20 is smaller than what most people believed

Quietly PT2017--the 6th J20 prototype or the 8th J20(2 TDs + 6 PTs) ever flied made the maiden flight yesterday...

this might be the last prototype of J20 R&D phase. Normally the 6th PT is a 'full status' vehicle and weapon test would be the main purpose...

after this jet, the CAC would began the SBP/Small Batch Prodution as usual...we might be able to see the SBPs commissioned in PLAAF Test and Traing Unit in late 2016 or 2017...

it also happened as we expected...

the first J20(status A or J20A) limited serial production vechile(small batch production) has started the ground test which indicated that the J20 production has begun and PLAAF is waiting for this important new model to be commissioned...

China's First Stealth Fighter J-20 is about to enter production

Chinese media reports suggest the J-20 is ready for production, ahead of schedule.

A report posted online by China’sXinhua News Agency suggests that the J-20 – China’s fifth-generation stealth fighter jet – has entered the mass production stage. The evidence is a photograph of a J-20 on the tarmac, coated with yellow primer paint and bearing the serial number “2101.”

Previous versions of the J-20 have been numbered in the 2000s (with the first prototype labeled 2001 and the most recent 2017). The appearance of a number in the 2100s hints to China’s online military enthuasists that production has entered the production stage – although Xinhua cautions that the initial production run for the J-20 may be limited at first. In particular, unnamed experts cautioned that the software used in fifth-generation fighters will need additional testing, even if the body of the aircraft is finalized.

Experts interviewed by Xinhua said the J-20 would have progressed to production quite quickly if the rumors are true. The first J-20 took flight in 2011, less than five years ago. Xinhua notes there were no major changes from the previous images of the 2017 version to this new 2101 J-20, meaning the design is already fairly set, with only minor alterations expected from here on out. Critics believe the design has progressed so quickly because Chinabased its J-20 on stolen plans for the United States’ F-22 and F-35.

The J-20 is China’s first attempt at a stealth fighter, and details are scarce. Observers are not even certain which engine the planes will use, whether China’s indigenously-created WS-15 or a Russian import, such as the AL-31 used in earlier J-20 prototypes (China may also be interested in reverse-engineering the new AL-117S engine used in 24 Su-35s Beijing just purchased from Russia).

According to the U.S. Department of Defense’s 2015 report on military developments in China, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force is pursuing two separate stealth fighter programs (the J-20 and J-31) “to improve its regional power projection capabilities and strengthen its ability to strike regional airbases and facilities.” The J-20 is expected to have a top speed of Mach 2.5 and a combat range of around 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles), according toGlobalSecurity.org.

The stealth capability in particular is seen as crucial in China’s development of an air force capable of conducting offensive operations abroad, and Beijing takes it particularly seriously. According to a Chinese military expert cited byXinhua, the J-20 is supposed to have stealth capabilities surpassing those of its Russian competitor, the T-50.

According to the Pentagon, China’s J-20s “could enter service as early as 2018.”

Chinese Stealth Fighter J-20 Starts Production | Popular Science

"'2101' is the ninth J-20 fighter built by the CAC in under five years (the first J-20 prototype flew in January 2011). In comparison, the first production F-35A (AF-6) flew in February 2011, five years after the first F-35 prototype flew in February 2006. The F-22 also took about five years to transition from first flight to LRIP (September 1997 and February 2002).
...
While the J-20 certainly a formidable foe today, in the next several years of development advances, its capabilities can be expected to grow. Future J-20's will likely have super-cruise capable Chinese WS-15 turbofan engines and improved gallium nitride AESA radars, with further out options including pilot controlled UAVs. As J-20 testing wraps up, the PLAAF will also have many other new projects to roll out, like the J-31 stealth fighter, H-20 stealth bomber, Sharp Sword stealth UAV and hypersonic weaponry."

J 20 is big, It is not stealth, It has under powered engines, Its engines are faultily located, It has problem with fuselage, Its weapon bays are faultily designed, it does not have a compatible radar of 5th generation plane nor it has the fifth generation weaponry. It is a typical another chinese plane lacking on all parameters. It is no threat to enemy. Soon it will start falling down like J10. at least 5 fell down in 2015.

after the Y-20's introduction, the next big event for PLAAF is the commission of J-20 fighter...lol

the date is quite near, the PLAAF Test and Tactics flight Unit might soon get the first batch(LRIP-Low Rate Initial Production or Leading-Use batch) which would be 4 airplanes...two of them have been fully painted with the final gray color RAM coating and low-visibility PLAAF insignia...recently these two had a very intense flight and ground operation demonstration for the VVIP of PLAAF and PLA headquarters... the flying and ground operation display lasted for a whole day...

the PLAAF J-20 painting scheme would be like this...

as comparison, the Prototype scheme with red insignia

Chinese have stolen and copied too much in this fighter, it will be a God's favour to them if it works. Otherwise it will stay as a showpiece in Chinese inventory, never to be seen outside but good to intimidate Chinese neighbour's in South China Sea.

Good going Chinese, i thought this fast approch is only meant for your monkey neighbours, but you shown that this is standard practice.

Chinese are practical in fielding a stealth fighter with an underpowered engine only for its low observability.

But IAF wont touch AMCA even with a barge pole , if it doesn't supercruise at mach 1.5!! same speed as that of F-22!!!

manohar Parrikar is trying to read some reason into IAF by asking them to accept AMCA at least with mach 1.2 supersruise, but still no words on IAF's final ASR!!

IAF is consistently following the mantra " the best is the enemy of the good", This all or nothing attitude nearly killed off tejas mk1, before parrikar sheduled 13 meetings over 8 months to bring IAF-HAL-ADA combo on board with mk1A specs.

Hope manohar parrikar does the same thing on AMCA,

WIthout even a basic working engine, IAF's dream of mach 1.5 super cruising stealth fighters is a tragedy!!

Chinese have tested stealth airframe with few goodies. Now it has indicted into there airforce, later on engine will be inducted. Good ggoung PLA-AF. IAF has hard time accepting such type of aircraft. PAF seems to follow PLA-AF model.
