this was piece of cake for ISRO.. kudos to ANTRIX for bringing in various contracts and kudos to ISRO for completing all those 20 contracts in sngle launch..

after MOM ISRO is getting more attention and coverage from media , which is good..

but all these satellites were miniature totalling around 1.4 tonne.. ISRO should now prioritize its heavier laucnch vehicle tests.. GSLV MK3 is the power horse of iSRO but in international arena among chinese,US,russia .. its dwarf..

but we cant blame ISRO.. its the budget that is very small...No political leader can understand the importance of space science...more money is spent on political ADVERTISEMENT than building rockets..IF we had better budget then our scientist could do more wonders..

Great news, saw it in various local/intl channels and were positive. It said that it took $15M against $76 million to launch a satellite in India. Congrats to ISRO scientists.

Interestingly all channels were giving it a positive look except this Al-Katua(Jajeera) propaganda channel. It made sure to remind that India is a poor country and it's space missions are "controversial". It also made sure to show Indian map with thick dotted line of our Kashmir and small dotted as LoC and all of PoK with Pak with green. Also they invited NDVT(we all know NDTV) correspondent to give few comment on this launch. :dude:

Even when India reaches 0% poverty, 100% literacy & 100% employment; they will still keep finding faults as we are a Hindu majority.

They are dogs, let them bark.

I saw the LIVE event in DD yesterday morning, but as per human nature wanted to have some news on the launch in evening. But look at the sheer apathy of our cable networks, apart from DD news, none of the private news channels have given the priority and due footage to this news. They were all busy in holding discussion on Mayawati and her wretched party.

PSLV-C34 Successfully Launches 20 Satellites in a Single Flight
In its thirty sixth flight (PSLV-C34), ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle successfully launched the 727.5 kg Cartosat-2 Series Satellite along with 19 co-passenger satellites today morning (June 22, 2016) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. This is the thirty fifth consecutively successful mission of PSLV and the fourteenth in its 'XL' configuration. The total weight of all the 20 satellites carried on-board PSLV-C34 was 1288 kg.
After PSLV-C34 lift-off at 0926 hrs (9:26 am) IST from the Second Launch Pad with the ignition of the first stage, the subsequent important flight events, namely, strap-on ignitions and separations, first stage separation, second stage ignition, heat-shield separation, second stage separation, third stage ignition and separation, fourth stage ignition and cut-off, took place as planned. After a flight of 16 minutes 30 seconds, the satellites achieved a polar Sun Synchronous Orbit of 508 km inclined at an angle of 97.5 degree to the equator (very close to the intended orbit) and in the succeeding 10 minutes, all the 20 satellites successfully separated from the PSLV fourth stage in a predetermined sequence.
After separation, the two solar arrays of Cartosat-2 series satellite were deployed automatically and ISRO's Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore took over the control of the satellite. In the coming days, the satellite will be brought to its final operational configuration following which it will begin to provide remote sensing services using its panchromatic (black and white) and multispectral (colour) cameras.
The imagery sent by the Cartosat-2 series satellite will be useful for cartographic applications, urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulation, utility management like road network monitoring, water distribution, creation of land use maps, precision study, change detection to bring out geographical and manmade features and various other Land Information System (LIS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) applications.
Of the 19 co-passenger satellites carried by PSLV-C34, two – SATHYABAMASAT weighing 1.5 kg and SWAYAM weighing 1 kg – are University/Academic institute satellites and were built with the involvement of students from Sathyabama University, Chennai and College Of Engineering, Pune, respectively.
The remaining 17 co-passenger satellites were international customer satellites from Canada (2), Germany (1), Indonesia (1) and the United States (13).
With today’s successful launch, the total number of satellites launched by India’s workhorse launch vehicle PSLV has reached 113, of which 39 are Indian and the remaining 74 from abroad.

Industry ready to participate in space programmes: ISRO

Isro chairperson A S Kiran Kumar (pic courtesy: ISRO website)
More than 100 companies in the aerospace business have expressed their readiness to partner with the Indian space agency to support its venture into global space market, in an event organised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The event was conducted to fill the gap in end-to-end realisation of spacecraft building in the country with the participation of industries.
In the "Make in India" Conference on Enabling Spacecraft Systems Realisation through Industries (ESSRI - 2016), organised in ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, ISRO Chairman A S Kiran Kumar said that all the Government departments and ministries had evinced keen interest in applying space technology for carrying out their mandates and in order to meet the increased demand for space based services, it was imperative that ISRO joined hands with the Industries in its effort towards enhancing its capacity.
He added that India has great potential to capture a sizeable portion of the business in the international space market, according to a statement from the space organisation.
M Annadurai, director, ISAC spoke about the need for launching at least 10-12 satellites every year. It may be noted that as reported earlier, Isro has floated Expression of Interest (EoI) for realising spacecraft on an end-to-end basis has been hosted on ISRO/ISAC websites and invited the industries to respond to it.
About 110 Industries in aerospace business participated in the Conference and presented their capabilities and expressed their commitment to partner with ISRO for the realisation of satellites on end-to-end basis, it said.
Over the years, a number of Indian Industries have been actively participating in realising various subsystems of spacecraft. A variety of models have been adopted by ISRO in outsourcing jobs to these vendors. However, end-to-end realisation of spacecraft has not yet been realised. The Conference aimed to fill this gap.

Looking at increasing satellite launches to 12-18 per year: ISRO

SRIHARIKOTA (PTI): ISRO on Wednesday said it is looking at increasing the number of satellite launches to 12-18 per year while underscoring the need for streamlining its robust PSLV series by adding on a new vehicle assembly building.
"We need to streamline the PSLV series and we are trying to get into more number of launches per year by increasing the capacity within in the country," Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman A S Kiran Kumar said.
"We are working towards some mechanism where industry-ISRO partnership will enable us to increase the number of launches per year to almost 12-18 per year in the coming years," he said.
Kumar was talking to reporters after India successfully launched 20 satellites, including its earth observation Cartosat-2 series, on board Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C34 from the Sriharikota spaceport on Wednesday.
On developing a three-stage PSLV, he said, "Not exactly...
One of the things we will be constantly addressing is how to reduce the cost of accessing space and these studies are addressing on what methods to reduce cost of launching satellite and that will be our continuous endeavour."
Noting that PSLV was a versatile launch vehicle which can do different jobs and put satellites in different orbits, he said streamlining of this operation with improved capabilities is on.
To a question on another launch station, he said what ISRO is looking at is trying to increase launches and remove bottlenecks if any. "Today one of the efforts towards that end is a second vehicle assembly building, which is getting ready and which will help increase the number of launches."
He said, "Our effort is to continuously assess the situation and take corrective action at an appropriate time to improve our launch frequency."
Kumar said work is on to launch the South East Asian satellite (previously SAARC and now SEA as Pakistan has backed out) by the December to March time frame.
He said the next launch would be PSLV C-35 which would have Scatsat, the primary satellite with scatterometer enabling ocean wind vector information, weather monitoring and forecast activity.
"Prior to that we are looking also at the possibility of air breathing experiment (which is also part of the overall Reusable Launch Vehicle activity)."
Kumar said the GSAT-18 launch is now slated for September instead of July 12 as a satellite that was to be launched had problems.
ISRO would also look at whether it could overcome limitations in the performance of GSLV Mark 2 and 3 and if it could build some features in this regard, he said.
Kumar said India has 35 satellites, including 13 communication, 13 earth observation and 7 navigational. Two other satellites are for space science and these are Mars Orbiter Mission and Astrosat.
"Our assessment is we need to double this number for meeting various requirements of the country and towards that our work will be progressing," he said.
Earlier, Kumar congratulated his team for the successful launch of the 20 satellites 'in a record time' and said, "PSLV C-34 has done its job."
"We have the current generation of earth observation satellite of Cartosat 2 series," he said, adding ISRO has done a 'wonderful job'.

‘Make In India’ Conference On Enabling Spacecraft Systems Realization through Industries - ISRO

The “Make in India” Conference on Enabling Spacecraft Systems Realisation through Industries (ESSRI - 2016) was organised today (June 23, 2016) at ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru. The Conference was organised to elicit industry support for spacecraft realisation on an end-to-end basis to meet the rapidly increasing national demand for space based services and the realisation of Prime Minister’s objective of “Make in India”.
After inaugurating the conference, Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman , ISRO/Secretary, DOS addressed the delegates. He told the delegates that almost all the Government departments and ministries had evinced keen interest in applying space technology for carrying out their mandates. In order to meet the increased demand for space based services, it was imperative that ISRO joined hands with the Industries in its effort towards enhancing its capacity. He also impressed upon the delegates about India’s great potential to capture a sizeable portion of the business in the international space market.
In his address, Dr. M. Annadurai, Director, ISAC spoke about the need for launching at least 10-12 satellites every year. He stressed that this goal would necessarily have to be driven by a synergetic collaboration between ISRO and Industry since such a partnership would be a win-win situation for both. Dr Annadurai also announced that the Expression of Interest (EoI) for realising spacecraft on an end-to-end basis has been hosted on ISRO/ISAC websites and invited the industries to respond to it.
The Chief Guest, Shri. Arvind Melligeri, Chairman and CEO, Aequs Private Limited, Belagavi, commended the good work ISRO had done so far and opined that enhanced industry participation in Indian Space Programme would take this to greater heights.
During the Conference, senior executives of ISAC/ISRO gave an insight into the requirements of ISRO with respect to hardware, technologies, quality and delivery schedule and what was essential for them to be qualified vendors of ISRO.
About 110 Industries in aerospace business participated in the Conference. During the interaction, the Industries presented their capabilities and expressed their commitment to partner with ISRO for the realisation of satellites on end-to-end basis. Further, they also expressed their readiness for gearing-up to venture into global space market.

NASA, ISRO join hands to develop data satellite
NASA and ISRO are working together to develop a synthetic aperture radar satellite to observe and measure ecosystem disturbances, ice-sheet collapses and natural hazards.
The data gathered from this mission will help build climate resilience and potentially save lives, said U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Rahul Verma.
Long-term forecast
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, is also working with the U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to develop high resolution seasonal and long-term climate forecasts to prepare for the monsoons.
The Ambassador was speaking at the “The Future is Now” conference sponsored by the U.S. Department of State (DOS) in partnership with Institute for Sustainable Communities and India’s Centre for Environment and Development (CED).
Climate change
Stating that climate change ranks among the foremost problems for the world along with terrorism, poverty, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, Mr. Verma said it was also a national security issue as it could possibly damage infrastructure, cause famines, migrations and disease outbreaks.
