u said space docking mission :shock:

when this will take place?? any idea
Given that a small experimental has been released, I can safely say that mission is alive and progressing slowly.
May be on fast track like Cdy-2 when correct time comes.
And don't use shocked similes.
If you'll open the file, you'll get even more shocked.
And I think I have a lot of info about Indian Space and Defense (I have a lot of interesting stuff about AMCA) which could give you shocks.
Though I don't know whether you know that already or not.
Similarly, you must have something interesting to make me shocked.
LOL:p

This particular image looks interesting, seems that it's showing wind stream directions...!?
It shows mainly clouds and winds.
INSAT 3DR is a weather satellite (advanced one, capable of studying up to 70km altitude).
So, what else you would expect?:D

i was thinking this space docking experiment will be initiated after manned mission, but interestingly gvt has allotted a small amount,at so early stage which was shocking, surprising and exciting at the same time for me..u are right when the time is right this will be prioritized, may be after successful manned mission..

or little early because u had posted something about the fuel station for sats which also requires docking..

thnx for the PDF .. it has lot of info.. budget allocation tells the urgency ,importance of a particular department and experiment.

i havnt gone through it in detail.but will do so in few days..

cheers.:smile::smile::daru:

News: India to Launch advanced Meteorological Satellite INSAT 3DR (slightly old as it has been launched already.)
Some pakistanis think as if everything what India does is concerned with pak. Nukes, economic ramp up, R&D or space program.
shameless paki said:
Peaceful endeavor? Check the purpose of the payload, night time photography. These Indians do nothing for peace. Even their peaceful endeavors are obsessed with us.
I love it.
Day and Night India India and later declare India's obsession with pak who works day and night just for destroying land of purr, The Great Islamic Secular Arab Republic of Pakistan.:pound:

Launch Frequency seems to be record high this year.
4 PSLVs (XL)
1 GSLV (Mk2)
1 HEX
1 SPEX
Pending:
2 PSLVs (one for this month and other for next month ).
1 GSLV Mk3 December.
Means we there will be 10 launches this year.

Frequency jumped to double digit!
:biggrin2:
We are no way behind in achieving frequency 12. At least one launch every month.
:peace:

ISRO chief calls for collaboration with research scholars
SHILLONG: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) should involve research scholars in various universities for better public sharing of information on space technology, said Chairman A S Kiran Kumar on Saturday.
Kumar, who was addressing the first Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture at University of Science and Technology here, said, “Researchers, scientists and academic members of different universities must work together. Only then can we move towards a developed nation. Instead of shifting to developed countries like Europe or the US or any other part of the world, we must work in our country and that way we can achieve the real societal development.” The ISRO Chairman added that the co-operation would help in sharing more information on different applications and ISRO’s space technologies with the public. Kumar also spoke about his association with Kalam.
P.L.N Raju, Director of the North East Space Research Centre, spoke about different space research programmes that the institute has taken up for the development of society. Meanwhile, Kumar said ISRO had a humble beginning but now it has completed almost 140 mission launches and operating 35 satellites in the orbit.

Story of the Week - Indian Space Research Organization
Updated Flood Hazard Atlas for Assam State

Assam is one of the flood prone States in the country. In order to minimise the impact of the floods in the State, Government of Assam approached National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad for identifying the flood hazard level of various villages in the State.
Satellite images depict the extent of flooding and flood inundated areas can be identified using digital image analysis techniques. Using 215 satellite images acquired during floods of last 18 years (1998-2015), most frequently inundated districts and villages were identified, based on the frequency of inundation. Villages were categorised into five hazard classes as Very High, High, Moderate, Low and Very Low.
An updated ‘Flood Hazard Atlas for Assam State’ was prepared and the maps were validated by the Govt. of Assam through Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The atlas provides information on frequently flooded villages in the State of Assam and also provides the flood hazard severity in different districts based on flood hazard category, flood hazard area and intra-annual flood variations.
About 28.75% (22.54 lakh hectares) of land in Assam State is affected by flood during 1998-2015. It is also observed that 17 out of 34 districts in Assam are severely flood affected.
The atlas was released by Shri Pallab Lochan Das, Hon’ble Minister of State for Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Assam on September 06, 2016 at Guwahati. Hon’ble Minister appreciated the efforts of NRSC in bringing out the updated atlas for the State of Assam.
Assam is the first State in the country to release satellite based flood hazard atlas in 2011 and also the first State to update the atlas in 2016.
The flood hazard layer is uploaded for detailed viewing in Bhuvan geoportal.

ISRO-PRL's observatory at Mt Abu to track space junk

AHMEDABAD: Silently, atop the Guru Shikhar observatory in hill station Mount Abu, a team of ISRO and Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) scientists are putting together a new facility to track space junk or space debris - a global problem pegged to attain dangerous proportions in coming years.
The facility will house a one-metre wide telescope with carefully crafted optics and back-end instruments assembled by Isro's Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS) in Bengaluru.
The new observatory, widely categorized as the Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance (EODSS) system, will track space debris-- mainly consisting of inactive satellites, electronic parts of instruments, leftovers from rocket launch and other such junk.
Currently, ISRO uses international space debris data and catalogue to maneuver satellites out of harm's way. In past seven years, there have been at least 12 instances when Indian satellites had to be maneuvered out of danger suspecting a collision with space junk.

‘ISRO can help solve water disputes’
V. Jayaram, president of Janahita Paksha, has urged the State government to seek the help of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to find a permanent solution to the inter-State river water disputes, including the Cauvery, the Krishna and the Mahadayi.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Jayaram said that the ISRO, with the help of satellite navigation, could collect facts on various aspects such as quantum of water available, use of water by riparian States and the other similar factors, based on which the States could settle the disputes amicably.
Mr. Jayaram added that he, along with other office-bearers of the party, would meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah very soon. They would also write to the Union government to request the ISRO to take up the survey and submit a report.
ISRO, with the help of satellite navigation, could help States settle water disputes amicably.

another stride in the path of having a space station in future.. it will also increase the safety of future manned missions.. plus will also ensure safety of satellites.. ISRO is becoming self reliant in every way.
Other feather to be added in the cap is ScatSat-1 before month end.
It will make USA and Europe reliant on us.:p

VTU VC appointment: ISRO chairman will not head search committee
Many eyebrows are being raised on the Raj Bhavan ignoring A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation to head the four-member Search Committee to find a new Vice-Chancellor for the Visvesvarsya Technological University.
According to reliable sources, the Raj Bhavan has appointed Dhananjay Vishnuprasad Bhatt, presently professor, Mechanical Engineering department, Dean [Alumni & Resource Generation], Professor In-charge E.D. Cell, Member secretary IPR at the S.V. National Institute of Technology, Surat of Gujarat.
Many academicians on conditions of anonimity expressed surprised that a person of Mr.Kumar's stature was ignored.
Sources said Mr.Kumar was State government nominee in the committee, while Dr.Bhatt was nominated by the Raj Bhavan. The two other members on the panel are M.S. Shivkumar, former VTU Registrar and H.C. Nagaraj, principal, NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, from the VTU Executive Council and Academic Senate respectively.
Interestingly, sources said the State government went a step ahead while nominating Mr.Kumar and requested the Raj Bhavan to appoint him as chairman of the committee.
However, efforts to contact the Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayareddi were in vain.
Meanwhile, sources also indicated hectic lobbying for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the VTU, the State’s only technological university. A large number applications are before the search committee. The committee is likely to meet on Wednesday afternoon, sources said.
