IDF forces have found the remnants of a Qassam rocket which exploded in an agricultural field in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council Wednesday night. No injuries or damage was reported.

At around 1 am, a Color Red siren was reportedly heard in the area, but no blast was immediately reported.

The renewal of rocket fire at Israel took place on the eve of Sukkot, at a time when most families are at home holding holiday dinners.

Local residents were quick to make their way from their bedrooms to their fortified shelter rooms as the siren sounded late Wednesday night.

"During the first couple of seconds we contemplated going to the protective room, because there has recently been a large number of false alarms, but in the end we got up and took the kids into the shelter," a regional council resident said.

"It was hard to wake them, and when we did they were very confused. We have grown accustomed to quiet. Our heart was beating fast and it took a long time to calms down afterwards.

"Obviously, it ruins the holiday, but we will keep sitting in the Sukkah, and if there is need we'll run to the shelter," she added.

Wednesday night's rocket came after more than a month of relative quiet in the area. The last rocket that fell in the region exploded in Sderot but did not cause any injuries or damages.

IDF soldier kidnapped, killed in West Bank​

Soldier was lured to village near Qalqilya by Palestinian who murdered him, hoped to use corpse to extort release of terrorist brother from Israeli jail

An IDF soldier from central Israel was murdered after being lured to a village near Qalqilya, in the West Bank, Israeli authorities said Saturday afternoon

The young man was snatched by members of a terrorist cell and taken to the village of Azun, where he was murdered by terrorists.

The soldier's family was notified of his death. His name was not immediately released for publication.

Security forces continued to investigate the incident.

The IDF reported earlier this summer that Palestinian terrorist groups were stepping up efforts to abduct Israeli soldiers. A total of 27 attempts to abduct an Israeli soldier were foiled in the first six months of the year — twice as many as in the same period a year earlier, the IDF said.

And in the past two months, military sources have warned several times about kidnap attempts, with terror groups seeking to grab soldiers to use in order to extort Palestinian prisoner releases.

Mortar fired from Gaza lands in Israel​

A mortar shell from the Gaza Strip landed in an open area near Israel's border with Gaza on Sunday evening. No injuries or damage were reported.

Aside for a Kassam rocket that landed near Ashkelon last Wednesday, the border with Hamas-controlled Gaza has been relatively quiet in recent months.

Sniper Attack Kills Israeli Soldier ​

An Israeli soldier was shot dead on Sunday during a Jewish festival in the West Bank city of Hebron

He was the second Israeli serviceman killed since Friday by suspected Palestinian gunmen as tensions rise in the occupied territory despite a resumption of stalled U.S.-brokered peace talks in July.

The United States condemned the killing of two Israel soldiers, in a statement issued in New York, where diplomats are gathering for the U.N. General Assembly.

Israeli military spokesmen said the soldier had died in a hospital in Jerusalem after a suspected sniper shot him in the neck while he was on patrol near the Tomb of Abraham, a Jewish holy site in Hebron.

"Shots were fired near the Machpela Cave," police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said earlier, using the Hebrew name for the holy site, adding that police believed the perpetrator was Palestinian.

Retired IDF colonel killed in suspected terror attack

Seraiah Ofer, a retired IDF colonel in his 50s, was killed in an apparent terrorist attack outside his home in the northern Jordan Valley overnight Thursday.

Ofer's wife, Monique Mor, managed to run out of the house, located in the West Bank vacation village of Brosh HaBika, and escape the perpetrators, whom she identified as two Palestinians.

The couple reportedly heard noises outside the house, and when Ofer went out to investigate, he was attacked by men wielding axes and crowbars.

Mor, 50, sustained light injuries while fleeing the scene. She stopped a passing car on a nearby road at approximately 1 a.m. local time, reported Ynet, and called for help. She was taken to HaEmek Medical Center in Afula by a Magen David Adom crew.

A large IDF force was dispatched to search the area for the attackers. Roadblocks were set up in the Jordan Valley as well. Though security officials believe the incident to have been a terrorist attack, they were also investigating the possibility that the act was criminal in nature.An eyewitness who was passing through the area told Walla News that she saw Mor with her leg "completely injured" on the road.

On Monday, two Palestinian men were arrested in connection to an October 5 terror attack in the West Bank settlement of Psagot. In that attack, a gunman infiltrated the settlement and shot a 9-year-old girl. She was lightly wounded.

In September, two IDF soldiers were killed in separate incidents. One soldier, Tomer Hazan, was murdered by a Palestinian coworker who lured him to a village near Qalqilya. A second soldier, Gal Gabriel Kobi, was killed by what the army said was a sniper shot outside the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

Israel names 26 Palestinian prisoners to be freed in 48 hours​

All were convicted of murder, including brutal killings such as 1990 Rosh Hashanah lynch of IDF reservist in Gaza; 21 inmates are from West Bank, 5 from Gaza

The Israel Prison Service published the names late Sunday night of 26 Palestinian prisoners set to be released over the next 48 hours as part of a deal to keep the US-brokered Israeli-Palestinian peace talks on course. All are convicted murderers.

The planned release constitutes the second phase of a four-stage prisoner release deal, agreed to as part of the talks which restarted in July. Israel released a first batch of prisoners in August.

Earlier Sunday, a ministerial committee headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved on the names of those Palestinians set to go free on Tuesday.

Iron Dome intercepts rocket fired at Ashkelon from Gaza​

Two rockets from the Gaza Strip were fired at Israel in the early hours of Monday morning, setting off sirens in Ashkelon and in areas surrounding the Strip. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

A second rocket fell in an open area in the area, and troops were dispatched to search for the impact site.

Gazan residents reportedly heard a large explosion as the Iron Dome shot down the rocket.

IAF strikes in southern Gaza after 5 soldiers injured by Hamas bomb​

One soldier was seriously wounded and another was in moderate condition late Thursday during an IDF operation to destroy part of a terror tunnel east of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. A total of five soldiers were injured when Hamas detonated an explosive device against the forces, the IDF said in a statement Friday.


The soldiers returned fire and "directly hit a terrorist," the IDF said, adding that the Israeli Air Force then targeted another tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip, confirming a direct hit. Palestinian sources said that three members of Hamas's armed wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, were killed in the retaliation.

All five soldiers were evacuated via helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.

Hamas-run TV in Gaza confirmed that its forces laid out a "sophisticated" improvised explosive device (IED) for the soldiers, adding that this was a "slap in the face to those who claim the resistance is dead," Army Radio reported Friday morning.

In its offensive actions against Israel, Hamas has breached the arrangements reached following Operation Pillar of Defense," the IDF said in a statement Friday.
