Insas rifle is evolving into Excalibur Rifle just like m16 transformation into m4 IMHO. Can it be used as carbine? A carbine version of insas was not successful, so it led to the development of amogh and JVPC. Experts out there, please comment.

The Excalibur models are the only ones in production now? What come back story for the oldest variant of the Excalibur, that was supposed to be gone and never to come back. Hopefully we get similar story with AAR/MCIWS.

Excalibur production is off now. Excalibur MK-1 is under production and getting inducted in good numbers . Amogh sold in limited production. JVPC also under production and OFB is expecting more orders after first order of 642 units by Chattisgarh Police. AAR is a dead project as for now. Was being developed just to fulfill Army's multical rifle requirement. Then army decided to go for .308 so development stopped.

Yes Excalibur & Excalibur MK-1 are short rifles. Compact than Insas 1B & 1B1. And performing better than Insas. Development of JVPC & Amogh was due to Army's carbine requirement. But now Army wants 5.56×45mm carbine. So state police & CAPFs will buy them.

Most of us know that OFB developed 7.62x51 rifle based on INSAS layout which is being criticised by Dalal lobby.
Another interesting but less well known fact is that DRDO has also developed prototypes of more advanced 7.62x51 rifle based on SIG whose further development has been blocked by Army. Army has taken a stand, that they want to import & why bother about small things like rifles for indigenous development.

Yes! Lack of synergy between the main end user (IA) and the OEM (DRDO/OFB) is the main reason hampering small arms development in the country. If MOD is able to mend these small loophole then we'd be able to see the best of the best small arm systems in the hands of the our brave soldiers.

I must say Raj those in DRDO has never say die attitude, what ever stupid GSQR IA comes up with DRDO make it, so much so that for FRCV they kept drdo out. Still no info on that.

Just for record when Raj and I asked certain questions from drdo guy, he said, "these are not like others toy guns (plastic type), these are meant to fire 1000 rounds. Those toys melt after few hundered rounds."
I don't have to tell which plastic toy guns he was talking about.

Source?......................................

Wonderful news, atleast JVPC does not need to depend on IA for orders...
A frd working in SAF Kanpur. And INDRA Networks also posted a photo of SAF official carrying JVPC at CRPF training centre. If you remember they there was a ceremony where they handed over the JVPC & Insas 1C to CRPF along with bulletproof bus. Looks like they are waiting for funds for JVPC coz 35K is not a small number & Insas 1C 5.56mm is still under final development phase. So we will have to wait.
