Good question. That's what i thought. But actually OFB copied TDI handguard. And TDI HG entered service long ago. So may be we will have to wait till Ghataks production goes up & if OFB offers forces it's accessories.
May be inorder to escape the copyright infringement issues,OFB had slightly altered the hand guard designs..Any way the cost of TDI hand guard is just 35 USD / peice and a mass order could lower the price further..If OFB could create this handguard at cheaper prices ,they could export it overseas and also could equip the Aks of RR and CRPF.OFB made holographic sights and handguard combo on Aks will enhance the accuracy of Aks of CT forces.

The AK clones OFB's 7.62x39 chambered ghatak and tar are waste of time and energy because there is no change in terms of quality and look from the original. Instead of copy pasting had they developed a 7.62x39 version of insas just like the 5.56x45 and 7.62x51versons it would be more appreciable. Because just like galil ace or CZ Bren, for example, insas has also established its separate identity though initially it was based on AKs. Developing a standard issue assault rifle for its defence personal is a matter of national pride not a joke like this and love to see IAF garud for example donning insas rifles in the aero India before the advent of IWI Tavor and x95. This is also giving a chance to the end users to reject their products and it's also rumoured that some end users prefer a Russian alternative over them for using in counter insurgency. They had also committed the same mistake on the 9mm anamica (a carbon copy of mp5) instead of developing a 9mm version of JVPC. Looks like they are lacking in self believe. ARDE's mciws/AAR is also an excellent baseline design.

Can you simplify your post. Too confusing .....

Keep this rifle for internal use. The army should get a more reliable rifle of their choosing. If a soldier is not happy with his personal weapon, he is not going to give his 100% in the battle.
How do you know this rifle is not reliable? Let the people who are supposed to decide decide if it’s reliable. Moreover, even if we accept your opinion that it is not reliable, how do you justify providing the paramilitary forces with an unreliable weapon, when you say it should be for internal use?

looks way better than rifle currently our paramilitary operating[Bulgarian AK]
why don't they order for them at least until new rifle from foreign comes.
may be our army later change mind about purchasing from foreign.
Bulgarian rifle is 7.62*39 mm bro. This is 5.56 mm . Paramilitary wants both calibers. One Bulgarian AR M1 costs only Rs. 35,000 and it is better than old romanian MDs. CRPF is conducting trials of Insas 1C 5.56 which is better than Excalibur & it's MK-1 version. So may be they will go for 1C. Assam Rifles jawans are operating Excalibur already.

While CISF has also received Excalibur MK-1 ( Above ) , which is same weapon with INSAS 1B1 parts. ITBP is operating Ghatak rifle. Only SSB is left now. I don't have details about SSB.

Forget about Army now. Trials will start soon. Rifles and carbines are planned to be delivered within 12 months after order. Till then it is better to upgrade existing AKs.

A 7.62x39 fully automatic version of insas should be developed by OFBs instead of the AK clones Ghatak or Tar to replace the foreign origin Bulgarian or Romanian ak clones. This is one reason why IA not favouring ghatak or Tar because there is no improvement in terms of the quality and the look over the original. Initially Trichi Assault Rifle looks different and everybody is talking about it but when fully developed it looks identical to ghatak which is also based on AK's skin.

Since of OFB 7.62x51 rifle is based on insas rifle it'll be one of best battle rifle operating elsewhere. The improvements over the Insas would be the transferring of the superior lethal effect of the SLRs and retaining the reliability and accuracy of the Insas in the new rifle. In addition to this the rifle also has a picatinny rail both above and below, where various accessories such as night-vision devices and under-barrel grenade launchers can be mounted. Weighing just 4.5 kg (which is similar with other rifle of its class) the rifle has two firing modes (single shot and automatic) and has a lethal firing range of 500 metres. If it's designed and integrated with different barrel length than it can also be used as an effective DMR. That is to say that it'll evolve into a rifle of its own class and give all the fancy foreign rifles in its class a run for their own money.

No Ghatak or Excalibur or OFB rifle until the army is fully satisfied and any new selection can be made in private sector.

Personal weapon boosts or lowers the soldiers morale. If he is unhappy, then he is not going to face the enemy badly.

5.56 version was American persuasion to the world of rifle making. Now most likely they will dump it too. Until then American M-16 is working fine after 12 years of battlefield troubles. So is INSAS after 10 years of obtuse criticism from arms merchants.
