Now name changed to #JVPC Joint Venture Personal Carbine. Weapon is improved after Army's suggestions. Weapon is light and accurate. According to DRDO ARDE Officials, Weapon is going to be in service in 12 months. Army is conducting field trials of this version.
Caliber : 5.56mm × 30 MINSAS

MSMC / JPVC - love the indigenous effort, but not sure who will use it.
Special forces are moving to Tavor. Israel has replaced Uzi with Micro Tavor, which is compact but packs a more powerful punch. Army will probably go for 7.62*51 chambered Tavor.
NSG commandos use P90, because of higher capacity magazine. Also, personal defense weapons are a better choice for them than a sub-machine carbine.

While JVPC was being blocked on flimsy excuses, India imported Rs. 1000 to 2000 crore worth of outdated 9mm SMGs. Guess why JVPC is not being ordered?
I don't think bureaucratic apathy is the reason on JVPC( assuming it has been tested and approved), it probably is not high on priority.

There are already atleast 4-5 billion USD of purchases which are in Pipe line as per DPP2016.

2 billion for NVDs.
Atleast another 2 billion for 762 nato rifles, snipers and AMR etc

And another 1.5 billion for emergency ammo purchases initiated in Dec 2016.

Add atleast a billion for new vehicles.

And a few more things...

All these have been re-initiated in the last 6 months..

Considering that allocation of capex for all three services is only about 20 billion per year , don't think much cash is left on an yearly basis for buying items which are not on priority list.

NSG does not use P-90, NSG uses MP5.
SPG uses P-90.

MCIWS/AAR looks to have decent build quality except for that crude and ugly buttstock, what a mess.

NSG commandos use P90, because of higher capacity magazine.
NSG don't use the P-90, they use the Mp-5 (as their main weapon).

As for who can/will use the JVPC, the IA and many other units/forces in India are still running around with the WW1 era (early 1900s) Sten 9mm guns, even if it's not world class, the JVPC will be more than a decent replacement for those junk.

MSMC is and always meant for replacement of 9mm carbines in Regular Army, 9mm carbines are sure fun weapon but they had their time ..

Silenced version, Quite lethal too ..
Is it not being replaced by MP9? Or only gtks are supposed to have those MP9s?

Also ones more query,
Army wants a 7.62X51 mm platform innit?
AAR has 7.62X39 if I am correct.
So will army go for the AAR's variant of 7.62X39 or will altogether find a new 7.62X51 platform?

Only Ghataks are using MP9s, These are purchased only because they can be mounted accessories ..

Its a state of confusion as of now ..

Kunal, what about persistent complaints that the 9mm carbine was prone to discharge too easily if dropped?

Its a dangerous weapon if not taken care, Their are plenty of problems at field areas and not at range..

Once a solider got shot with it while he was sleeping during his duty, He survived and was back in service..

Kunal, what about persistent complaints that the 9mm carbine was prone to discharge too easily if dropped?
