Common sense is apparently not so common.I've gone house shopping many times in Bangalore. Went to an apartment marketed as "lake view". In front of my eyes I could see bulldozers covering over the "lake" for new construction probably.
In the old days we used to take neighbours into confidence and enquire on the general well being of the area we wanted to invest in - info on things like water salinity, safety, flood prone, etc were available on demand.
Ok so people today do not interact with fellow beings in the neighbourhood much, but is it really too much effort to gather some basic topography/elevation knowledge on the area before signing on the "easy cheap loan" bank form?
Look at the irony - the worst afffected gated community in Bangalore is also the most expensive real estate ("Epsilon", for those interested) with plots commanding eye popping 20 to 80 crore price tags. What happened to their common sense, one asks?
So lets not blame the politicians alone. It takes two to clap.
