INDIA'S SRUAV-W CONDUCTING WEAPONS TRIALS
The SRUAV-W is being developed as a short-range unmanned aerial combat vehicle for the Indian Army.

India's Short-Range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Weaponised (SRUAV-W) is conducting weapon trials.

Based on the Rustom-I short-range (tactical) surveillance vehicle, the SRUAV-W is being developed as a short-range unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV).

A project member with India's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) told Janes that the UCAV's weapons trials are being conducted using four types of air-to-surface missiles. The ADE is a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The official spoke to Janes during the Aero India 2023 show, which is being held in Bangalore from 13 to 17 February.

According to the ADE project official, the weapons include the Helina anti-tank missile and the Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM). The ADE official said that the third munition being integrated with the UCAV is an anti-personnel missile. The official did not give details about the anti-personnel missile or the fourth missile being used in the trials.

India will buy 18 Predator Drones instead of 30, all three armies will get 6 units. India-US Predator Drone Deal India To Buy 18 MQ-98 predator-armed drones instead of 30
India-US Predator Drone Deal: Indo-US talks on Predator drone may resume. Earlier there was a plan to buy 30 drones, where now the plan has been changed.

Predator Drone Deal:
India was in talks with the US on the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALF) Predator drone deal for all three wings of the military. There was a plan to buy 10-10 drones for each wing of the army, Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Now the government has changed its plan. India will buy 18 drones instead of 30, in which 6-6 drones will be given to all three wings of the army.

The central government is in touch with the Predator maker, General Atomics. After the talks with the company are confirmed, the deal will be finalized between the US and the Government of India. Predator drone deal is important for India in many ways. The US Army has been using this drone for a long time. With the help of this drone, the US Army has also carried out many major operations.

LAC will be monitored by Predator drone
India will use this special drone for surveillance of China borders and surveillance in the Indian Ocean. The talks on the drone deal started only last year, but there was no update on it for a long time. According to media reports, NSA Ajit Doval had held talks with his counterpart Jake Suvillian on his US tour. The two sides reportedly also agreed to take forward the discussion on the MQ-98 Predator-armed drone deal.

Features of Predator Drone
Predator drones will be used to lick the dust off the enemy. This deadly drone has the capability to execute operations with precision with four hell-fire air-to-ground missiles and two precision-guided munitions. India currently has medium altitude drones. Real-time information can be obtained with the help of Predator. The activities of the enemy running on the borders can be easily traced. Especially the Indian operation in the Indo-Pacific will get a boost from this drone.

Army, paramilitary may procure DRDO’s Archer if UAV passes missile evaluation test
If the missile evaluation trials of the Short Range-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Weaponised (SR-UAV-W) are successful, the Indian Army and the paramilitary forces might procure these, said officials of the Aeronautical Development Establishment, a laboratory of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO).

SR-UAV-W, also called the Basic Archer, has undergone flight demonstration and will undergo missile evaluation soon. Speaking with The Indian Express, an official from the DRDO said, “We have made two versions of Archer-one — a basic archer also called SR-UAV-W — and Archer-Next Generation (Archer-NG). The missile evaluation trials of basic Archer are left where we will arm the UAV with anti-tank missiles and hit a dummy target. We want to see how the weapon performs. If the trials are successful, the Army and the paramilitary forces could induct these. They have expressed a lot of interest in this.”

“While working on RUSTOM 1 (a short range remotely piloted aircraft system), we came up with the idea of Archer. Basic Archer can be used to cater to the requirement of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, tracking and reconnaissance (ISTAR). It gathers real time and high quality imagery. It can operate up to a height of 22,000 feet with an endurance of up to 12 hours. It also carries Electro Optical and Infrared (EO/IR) payload,” the official said.

I am wondering why dont our MoD throw HALE drone development challenge to our private sector in make 1 category maybe. In one scoop 25000cr rupees will be flowing outside India for just 31 drones

Hahaha. Private sector that imports chinese components off the shelf and assembles for even micro quad copters to build an alternative to the General Atomics MQ9 Sea guardian. Their are better chances of DRDO -ADE coming up with something closer now that Tapas has completed 200 Plus successful flights and Swift. Although that will take it's own sweet time

Indian Military plans to procure "Archer" armed drones designed and developed in India...

Drone warfare finally seems to be catching up with the Indian Generals that there are finally have re-look at the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) proposed short-range, armed UAV called Archer, based on the earlier Rustom-1 that can be classified in the same class as Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2 that has played a key role in wars in Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the Selection of partners to half a dozen private companies in mid-2021 that will be in charge of assembly and manufacturing of 20 Limited Series production that will be supplied to both the Indian Army and Indian Air Force as part of user trials if it meets certain requirements then more 100 units will be ordered said informed sources close to idrw.

In the first lot, 4 Archer SR-UAVs will be developed for the testing of the weapons systems for which DRDO has developed an Air to Surface-based missile that is light enough to be carried on Archer SR-UAV. Each Archer SR-UAV will be able to carry four air-to-surface anti-tank missiles or Laser-Guided Rockets but plans are also to equip it with two air to air missiles based on the MANPAD that DRDO is currently developing to take on other Short or Medium range UAVs.

Rustom-II aka Tapas is also being prepped to be integrated with air-to-surface anti-tank missiles or Laser-Guided Rockets so that it can also be used for ground strikes. The advantage of operating both Archer and Rustam-2 is that both platforms use the same avionics and systems including LRUs and Ground stations that can operate both UAVs with a switch of software that will reduce maintenance and logistics issues for the squadron that will be operating both classes of drones from its base.

The Archer has a 220km range and 12h endurance, while Rustom-II has a 1000km range and 18h endurance.

Can somebody much smarter produce a summary of the UAV and UCAV, Indian Armed forces use currently? Also please include the UAV/UCAV domestically produced or are on order abroad for delivery in next 2 to 3 years. I will be much obliged.

I have gone thru many pages of this thread but is unable to get the full flavour of the UAV/UCAV status.

Theres a fuck tonne amount of small all electric multirotor drones from the pvt industry, even industry insiders dont know the full picture.

I wonder how the IA is handling the clusterfuck of types/numbers/capabilities and all the logisitics that go with it.

Badly XD
