I don't think DRDO has any plans for HALE UAV for now. The Rustom-II (30k feet, 35hrs endurance) is undergoing iterative development. Also there is a highly classified program to develop a stealth UCAV called IUSAV been overseen by Indian Airforce and to be powered by non-afterburning version of Kaveri.

This Govt needs to asap setup basic infra to support powerplant testing & development.

Nobody's going to give us turbofan to power a stealth UCAV which could potentially be used to drop nukes.

We did LSTT for Rustome-2 Last August, but since then not much happened in this project. Can put some torch on current status of project and trail and Induction schedule. Would be really appreciate you knowledge.

More talks on rotary UAV project at Aero India

The DRDO officials said that during the upcoming Aero India 2015, they hope to make some inroads in their rotary UAV programme. As reported by this Correspondent earlier, a Chetak has been indentified for the preliminary work. The DRDO is currently grappling in the dark in developing the technology that permits the UAV to land on the ship deck. DRDO officials said that in addition to Indian Navy and HAL, preliminary round of talks have been held with Boeing. "We hope to take the talks forward at Aero India. Even Lockheed Martin has shown interest to partner in the programme," Dr Tamilmani said. In an interview granted to this Correspondent recently, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan was critical about the slow progress being by DRDO on the rotary UAV project. "We have taken note of the delay in the project. We have given lots of impetus to the project in the last two years. We have laid down stringent timelines and conveyed the same to DRDO for an early solution," Admiral Dhowan had told OneIndia. Post Prime Minister Narendra Modi's suggestion that some of the labs/projects need to handed over to youngsters, DRDO had earmarked the rotary UAV project. The project will come under Aeronautical Development Establishment, which has developed UAVs for armed forces.

Abhishek Shrivastava, As far as i know, Rustum 2 is already going for production via Private co, Its still under trails for long endurance flights ..

DRDO to showcase new unmanned combat air vehicle at Aero India



Some of the attractions will be real displays of LCA (Light Combat Aircrafts) and Rustom, the Long Endurance Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV). On static display will be the DRDO flying test bed and the air force and naval variants of LCA with armaments like missiles and bombs.

The flight control system and data link packages of AURA will be designed and developed jointly by ADA and Defense Electronics Application Laboratory.

Capable of flying at altitudes of 30,000 feet, with a range of 300+ km and weighing less than 15 tonnes, the stealth UCAV will have rail-launching for the missile, bombs and PGMs (precision-guided munitions) they will carry. It will be powered by the indigenously developed Kaveri Engine.

The flying-wing concept designated the Indian Unmanned Strike Air Vehicle (IUSAV), is a derivative of existing flying-wing UAV's such a the European Neuron and Boeing Phantom Ray.

But in fresh indications coming from the Bangalore based team developing the platform, the IUSAV, code-named AURA, could see a first prototype flight by 2015-16, with deliveries by the end of the decade.

Such timelines are ambitious, especially for a program involving technologies that India has never before attempted. The Indian Air Force and the Govt. of India has accorded special funding and other support to keep the IUSAV on schedule.

Rustom-1 UAV spotted flying today by Singha of bharat rakshak

i quote him (cut and paste)

the Rustom-1 UAV was spotted flying today at 8am along the ORR and Sarjapur road. I thought UAVs were not allowed to fly over cities in india and ADE was using their kolar aerodrome for testing.

fairly ugly looking piece of work with the canard foreplanes and quite noisy as well.

is it going to remain a testbed or be productionsed and inducted with a useful payload ?
